Each student placed their paper marker in the school grounds, creating temporary installations

The ‘Rout Off’ saw the designs carved into the posts on site

A popular event where residents and stakeholders could take partin the project and could see what was being made

The Installationthe finished markers were placed all around the park

they were designed as an extension to the planting scheme already established in the playground. Each marker is made from 4x4 pressure treated tanalised timber and has a hat to keep the weather out.

The motifs have been received well by the residents,Some even asking for extra posts for their own gardens

Young children were confused saying, ‘what will you do with them now, sell them?’ ‘No, we made them for you. We will put them in the park for you and your friends and family to enjoy’.‘What there for display?......cool’

‘Can I have a picture of me holding my one?’

Interest has already been shown in developing a longerlegacy for these motifs by incorporating them within the fabric of the new NKCC building. They are transferable into other materials, including profile cutting for metal railings, etched onto glass, sand blasted into stone and used in vinyl cut out processes.

They could also be scaled up and painted onto the existing green hoardings, while building is still being carried out.
