Achievements

Page 8: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

Which are your top achievements in AIESEC so far? (In different areas such as coaching, LC development, increasing quality and quality of exchange, national involvement etc)?

My top achievement is yet to come, until now I didn’t put as much heart as I am right now for BS and the candidature for VP Comm.

1. Why did you decide to run for EB Team 09/10 AIESEC in Constanta?

Because I want the stakeholders to look at AIESEC from a different perspective, as youth leaders and to bring the organization closer to the @2011 vision.

Because I want to bring my contribution to the development of @Cta.

Because I want to see at the end of my term members motivated to get AIESEC a step further.

2. Which is the thing you consider to be you personal challenge in the EB? Why? How you should solve it ?

My personal challenge I think it will be to become that energetic person because I usually am a very calm person. A way to solve this is by bringing my personal life closer to AIESEC, so, having close friends into the organization.

3. What are the persons/events that inspired you to run for EB 09/10 and why?

It was actually a period of time. It started in the autumn recruitment, at RTS when I saw myself in a different light, being able to do everything I put into my mind, it continued with NPS where I went a little bit further into the heart of the organization by being part of the consolidation group for the @2011 vision, when I felt that this cannot be the end of my journey in AIESEC. Throughout the way I spoke to a couple of persons who gave me that self-confidence I needed.

4. What is the personal achievement that you want to accomplish until the end of your term ?

I want to be able to say that I have 2 great teams (EB team and Comm team), that I’ve contributed to the development of my communication team. More important I want that unity, that common boat and direction of the EB team. I want to leave the organisation with the feeling that I am a leader, i’ve left my inheritance.

5. Please state what your opportunities are as an AIESEC member right now, other than being an EB member and how do you plan to capitalize upon them?

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

C. My Motivation

Page 9: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

A great opportunity is OCP spring recruitment. If I am not ellected VP Comm and the position remains unoccupied I would like to candidate. The reason why I am fond of this position is because one of our stakeholders are the students, who have the most erronated view of our organisation, so, through the OC team I would do everything I can to change it.

Another opportunity is OCP NLP, a challenging project, which requires the human resource, I am not planning on getting involved in this project in any other way than as a helper. And this is because the position of OCP NLP doesn’t attract me as much as the OCP recruitment, and I already am an OC member, so It feels like I wouldn’t evolve. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t be present through the OC learning and OC promo.

1. Identify 3 main key trends shaping our external environment and please do explain briefly the influence that these trends have/will have on AIESEC Constanta’s: a)contribution, b) structure, c) processes.

The first one is the financial crisis, which normally has a negative influence on both NGOs and companies, but if we think that in this period the PR activity and generally the marketing activity is not the main focus of the companies and therefore don’t have a clear image in the external environment, it is an opportunity for us, by using guerilla adv, to attract partners because of our strong image, and cross branding.

Another trend is the european funds to which we can apply, and we continously are, living examples are LTBT and BS. Being part of the E.U. this facilitates a lot of our processes, like exchange and also apply to these grants for certain projects based on eXchange. Our knowledge and expertise is starting already to grow, we understand what the financiers are asking from us, but we still need to improve ourselves.

Companies are starting to understand the importance of investing in the human resource, so they are offering soft-skills and hard-skills trainings and traineeships. This is a positive trend for the society, but it overlaps with some of the advantages the AIESEC experience offers, plus, at a higher level and they have that gigantic marketing budget. AIESEC Constanta must adapt through putting our focus in this area.

2. Explain what product leadership is and describe how you are planning to use/implement it as a potential EB 09/10 member.

D. General Questions

Page 10: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

We have 3 choices, concentrate on: costs, customer or product. Meaning, be cost efficient- by achieving low-cost productions; be specific to the needs of the customer- come up with solutions to his needs; develop high qualitative products and then create a demand in the mind of the customer.

The product of our organization is the AIESEC eXPerience. This AIESEC eXPerience we are selling to different stakeholders who use it to fit their needs. In order to have a strong brand and position ourselves in the external environment as youth leaders, the experiences we offer have to be qualitative. In addition, we have to educate the market to understand the neccessities and advantages of our product.

Ways of making use of the product leadership strategy: concentrate on the innovative factor, understand our stakeholders and their needs through assessement, bring quality and focus on the unique selling points.

3. What do you think the three main priorities of AIESEC Constanta should be for the next term? What initiatives would you propose for each one and what results would you like to see in each of those areas at the end of your term?

Main priorities Initiatives ResultsX culture - the @ office is a

starting point, as funy as it could sound

- organize events with alumni who have an X experience

- - promote sites and stories with exchangers

- the members will “feel”, see, “taste” the exchange.

- awareness of the impact of an X experience

- awareness of the thousands of X experiences world-wide.

External Positioning - through a more

clear, transparent, targeted image in the local envrionment

- we position ourselves as youth leaders

- students will be

- through our members

drawn through the example set by our members

Finance - grants

- Legal X

- Transparent with the money we spent to our stakeholders

- other ways of revenue, other than sales, which is an overloaded department.

- more easy to sell; increases trust ad credibility

- Increse credibility, generates maybe word of mouth.

4. What are the three key elements that make an AIESEC Experience life changing? How can these elements be scaled up to ensure the organization supports the growth of such experiences?

The three key elements are: leadership opportunities, the global learning environment and eXchange.

Although AIESEC Constanta is a small LC it has plenty of leadership opportunities, where we need to work is at the global learning environment, because, although we have conferences/seminars, team experiences, coaching/mentoring, virtual spaces, individual discovery and self-reflection, learning circles, people still are not on the right positions and don’t have that relevant and coherent learning experience. How can we improve this? First, being honest with ourselves, and second through a more rigurous and sustained taking-over, not just for the EB. If we combine leadership opp, GLE with X the result is this life-

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 12: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

changing experience. But for the combination to be successful it has to be qualitative. So, don’t just sell X to the first „buyer”( student or company), select our stakeholders.

In conclusion, the key element is quality.

5. Please design a SWOT of AIESEC Constanta as you see it now.

S

- passionate people- organizational structure

- number of X+L

- the quality of our projects

- leadership opportunities

- high qualitative trainings

- flexible LC

- sustainable with phisical materials

- good relationship between OCPs and coaches

W

- few specialized people- number of members

- not a constant presence in the eye of our stakeholders

- finanaciar transparency (X)

- coherent global learning environment

- not living X

- time management

- not sustainable with our knowledge

O

- strong and long-term partners- partners on learning

- spring EP recruitment

- EPs from projects

- Targeted promo (recruiting on the

T

- financial crisis- not adapting to the local reality on

time

- being stuck in the same mindsets.

subdepartments that lack the human resource)

6. Please make an analysis of the Balance Scorecard Implementation in the LC and how you see its further implementation for the whole LC.

Every department has its own CSFs and KPIs to which the VP keeps track and the compilation of these gives us the status of our LC.

At EB level the implementation of the Balance Scorecard is very concise, structured and well applied. But not all the members are aware of this Balance Scorecard, so a further step would be getting the members used to this tool from the beginning because all the LC contributes to the status of those CSFs.

7. What do you think should be the role of AIESEC Constanta in our GN – GICU – and in the National Network in 09/10?

First I’ll state the obvious- support role for @Iasi in organizing NPS.

But I don’t think every LC has to have a particular role; we are not that different, we have the same core-work, values, impact etc. What is the most important objective for the next term is to continue and develop the relationship between GICU, as for the National Network- create it by using it as much as possible. How can the network between GICU increase? Through the TTX conference, as the conferences expanded for both ICX and OGX; until now we haven’t used SOLs that much and this is an idea we can capitalize on both at national level; also, communicating a lot more with each other for good case practices and helping each other.

8. What do you see as being the most effective ways of building strong awareness of AIESEC in the external environment and what level of activity would be needed to achieve this?

We, the members, are our most effective “weapon”. If we don’t talk about AIESEC, nobody will, if we don’t apply what we’ve learned in AIESEC at university presentations, for example, neither the students, nor the proffesors will recognize us as leaders. And both of

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 14: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

them are our stakeholders. For this we don’t have to do anything special, but it has to start with our awareness that we are brand ambassadors.

Another way is to connect the alumni, returnees especially and the current AIESEC members. By doing this, we create a link between what we promise (positive impact in society) and the reality (what we currently are), we gather together the essence of our organization (activating leadership). The effort from our part, knowing how to make use of the PR system (or strings) and connect these events to our activity, which, by the way, has to be continous.

Then, we are an international organization. Yet, we don’t use international speakers at events, we have to increase credibility, and use the most valuable assets we’ve got. Easy and cost effective ways to do this, trainees from the GN/National Network/Iashington conference.

9. What is the vision of AIESEC in Romania for 2011? What do you personally understand from it?

The most important thing for me from the @ Ro vision is: „How we act in the community profiles us as youth opinion leaders.” We are 30.000 members world-wide, the elite of the university students, but still, we are seen as a cult by students and companies look at us suspiciously because we are just students. Why? This is the answer I want to find out in my term and bring long-term and strategic answers to it.

“We shape our AIESEC eXPeriences with passion and commitment. All LCs grow together guided by one ambition.” This is the @ constanta part: passion and commitment (Through everything we do, we become better persons; and that is called passion.) And we are striving to reach that unity among LCs.

“Our contribution and performance draws apprecitation in the international network . Sustainability and quality are our drivers for succes.” We are already recognised as a performant country at CEE level, the next step would be the UBS cup, this is what I understand. We are not yet in the point in which we can say that quality is our main priority no matter what, we still strive more for those numbers.

“Our stakeholders value their connection with AIESEC.” AIESEC Constanta exists for almost 16 years, and yet whenever we go to a new company, they don’t recognise us. Our parteners have to understand us, to know what we’re all about. Not to come to a BP and say that we provide job opportunities for students abroad.

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 15: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

10. What do you think the culture of AIESEC Constanta should be, looking forward into a 3 year perspective? Through which activities you will sustain this culture, if elected?

The AIESEC Cta culture is a very fun, divers, free one. I like it just the way it is, with the roll-calls and the ocasionally Thursdays movie, but we need a more constant interaction. To communicate more internally, to have that transparency between us. Another weak point is the culture of feedback.

In three years we should open more to the National Network, not have that culture of excellence at LC level, but at least at national level, if we cannot think globally yet. The ideal culture is created through an enjoyable atmosphere, communication, living the values and principles of AIESEC and of course the essence-activating leadership. To bring this ideal state closer to the present reality I want to improve the internal communication system and be a role-model.

1) Persuade the 55 year old parents of a new member that AIESEC is the best choice that their child could have made. (maximum 5 lines in Romanian)

deosebiti? Suntem prima optiune a studentilor din intreaga lume interesati de a deveni lideri. Suntem apolitici, prezenti in 106 tari si non-profit. Va doresc o zi buna!

2) Please make a SWOT analysis of the Communication department as you see it now.

S- Well prepared persons on Adv and

PR- Passion for communication- Continuous presence in the media- Communication between the

department and the OC promo from projects

- The 100% Al brought us closer to NGOs

- Positioned online through the site

W- Few members on the

department- low focus on events- low focus on knowledge

management- not all brand alligned materials- lack of an IS resp- not involved in the promo

campaign of X- not used myaiesec.net- internal communication

O- Redwine- Other partners on learning(web

design, programs)- Participate in external events-

T- Lack of interested members- Lack of interested partners

3) How will you ensure that we are able to transmit our brand essence through all our physical manifestations with our target audiences?

It has to start from respecting our brand: logo, materials, site. Their first interaction with AIESEC is a decisive moment. I’ll give some examples of phisical manifestions.

Class shouts, when our essence must be transmitted verbally and visually, through what we are, and “not being caught with our pants down”. How do this, by using effectively our human resource.

Through our events, when we must pay attention to the smallest details. The key element in transmitting our essence is that break when we interact with our stakeholders(members, enablers, supporters). How- by educating our members to be aware of the benefits, advantages, importance to transmit what our essence is.

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 17: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

At conferences can be present all our target audiences: members, supporters, enablers. Do not fall asleep during a company presentation (this is a real example), this is NOT how we transmit youth leaders. Instead network with the companies from SD, be actively involved.

4) What will be your Media strategy for the next term?

Nowadays, the first choice of students to spend time is on the web. So, we need to use this information accordingly. For example, besides making use of our site (AIESEC Cta and AIESEC International), go a little bit further towards the social networks, like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter,LinkedIn.Another important aspect is the external links we have, which also represent one of our KPI and we should pay more attention to this opportunity.A very used tool is wikipedia, where we can make our own page about AIESEC Cta. This contributes to the international recognition from the @2011 vision.

5) Which should be the 3 critical achievements that AIESEC Constanta should have on Event Management by the end of the next term? Describe the actions you will take to reach them.

The first one is to have a constant Event Responsible. I don’t like to promote some positions more than others, so I wouldn’t do this, but instead I would make a very concise document of the advantages of every position. If nobody applies, then I’ll resort to head hunting.

This year we resumed ourselves to the events of the projects, recruitment and inititives from some departments. So, an achievement would be to have events in which we can interact with our stakeholders and achieve that external postioning.

And to conclude the circle, the information gathered from this experience be transmitted forward and also gathered in our server (when we have one). How I can reach this achievement: having a server/ftp; facilitate the communication between the members who had an event experience.

6) What is your strategy on including the “Alumni Responsible” position in the department structure and in the team. Think about three challenges you might face.

The most important thing in being a VP is to keep the team close. So, I don’t have a special strategy for including the Alumni resp in the team, because it is the same as for achieving the unity of the whole team.

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 18: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

As for the inclusion of the alumni resp in the department structure, a way would be working as a team on the creative activities, or corelating the activities of the alumni resp with the activities of the other members. Be involved in the “daily activities” and in the other way, include the alumni in the daily activities, like organizing events with and for alumni.

7) What is plan on making a better use of the New Media environment? (please refer to each category of our target audiences)

Members-we are students, so we should know where we are present: on social networks, always looking for interaction. Also, as students we know what we want- to be impressed, to see something out of the ordinary. In conclusion, we have to be present where our “consumers” (in this case the students) are and our competition isn’t. For this we need an external and experienced point of view in knowing where and why our competition is.

Enablers- We need to be present in their environment- business sites(TN takers, companies in the education field); as for mentors,we recognize them from a mile away, but we have to think about what the organization needs, who are those persons that can bring a contribution to our organization and our personal development, how to get in their way through new media-contact them, position ourselves as youth leaders.( challenge them to a debate)

Supporters- (sponsors and BOA)- a very big advantage of the new media use is the networking opportunity. So, being present on sites like LinkedIn offers us a step ahead from most of the students because it is used by employers. The external links are also a big plus when thinking about this target audience, because business people always have to be up to date with what is new on the market.

8) Think about the Communication Department in the last two years. What things should be carried forward? What are the changes that you want to see?

The communication department has grown a lot considering the media appearances and the quality of the advertising materials in comparison to the last year. Also, the innovation level has grown. It was a year of change, also some things went slower, like the IS system and events. The events didn’t affect that much the LC because we had an event resp on every project who communicated with the event resposible from 2007. On the IS part it was felt the lack when thinking about myaiesec.net and the logistics from the office.

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

Page 19: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

What I would carry forward is the “out of the box” thinking because I am under the impression that we are stuck in the same paradigmes. But this way of thinking isn’t chaotic, it’s actually strategic considering that trends like guerilla advertising doesn’t really exist in Constanta, but in U.S.A it’s starting to lose its novelty, we have to always be one step ahead of the crowd. Also, the networking “system”, if I can call it like this could be set into motion, by putting the strategic element into events and daring to shake the external environment.

9) Imagine that a fairy existed all this time and now she’s asking YOU a top 3 of your wishes for the Communication Department 0910.All you have to do for those wishes to come true is to write them below. So, what would those wishes be?

1. The Comm team to be the craziest, communicative and finance-friendly. 2. When students are asked what do you think about @ to answer: the best opportunity for students to develop both professionally and personally. 3. The members to become brand ambassadors of @Ro (to be understood-not just in Constanta/Romania).

1. What unique qualities/attributes do you bring to a team which will contribute to the EB team performance?

I am easily adjustable to people and situations. I like to challenge people, and myself.I don’t generate conflict, I am the peaceful type of person. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to settle if I don’t agree with an idea/solution/argument etc.

2. What does a successful EB Team mean to you? Where do you see your role in creating such a team?

Aleea Universitatii Nr.1, Campus, Sala P40 |900470 | Constanta | Romania www.aiesecconstanta.ro

F. Personal Questions

Page 20: EB Application Form 2009 - 2010

A successful EB team is a united team and close to the LC, not seen as gods, but be role-models, sticking to DLs and timing. A successful EB team is the one who puts people first and then results. My role, depends on the other members, like I said, I’m adjustable.

3. Can you tell us one thing that you’ve done in your life and you are most proud of? Why is that?

Being present when my friends needed me and knowing when I’m doing harm to myself by sacrificing my believes and stop. Why? Because I actually think that you can have everything in life: personal life, profesional, and hobbies. All you need is good time management, people that support you and knowing who those persons are.

4. Please illustrate your personal vision on your life.

Beauty (young woman), knowledge (the book), inocence (white rose), all your sins cleaned (water), all the evil in the world (the tap who looks like a snake)

The circle is @ Cta, from which are formed those agents of positive change, and the people around us are all the stakeholders attracted by the organization.

All of us in a harmonious dance.
