Be physically active
at least one hour
every day.
School is out for the summer, but staying active is in! Being physically active can help children and teens obtain and maintain a healthy weight. So, grab your friends or family and find activities you can do together. Play outside or cool down with a trip to the beach or a pool. Visit your local famer’s market, park or recreation center. Whatever you choose to
do together, take a few minutes to be safe and healthy. Practice these simple precautions: Apply sunscreen with SPF15 or higher Put on insect repellent Supervise young swimmers Drink plenty of water For more summer safety tips, visit www.healthyokaloosa.com.

Cut back on soda, sugar-sweetened tea, fruit or sport drinks.
When the temperature rises, getting enough to drink is important whether you are playing sports, traveling or just sitting in the sun. You can become dehydrated during time of extreme heat because your body loses fluids through sweat. It is easy to keep water available! Keep a pitcher of water in your fridge or invest in a water bottle to take with you when on the go. Drinking water instead of sugary drinks is the healthier choice. Remember to think water first for thirst!
Eliminate use of and exposure to tobacco and nicotine products.

Brushing your teeth is important to your oral health and hygiene. The ADA makes the following recommendations for toothbrush care: Do not share toothbrushes. Thoroughly rinse your toothbrush
with tap water after brushing to remove toothpaste and debris.
Do not store your toothbrush in a closed container.
Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
