HAPPY EASTER!
This week, while most of us celebrate Easter, I want to take this opportunity to
say a huge THANK YOU to all the key-workers within our school family and
wider community, especially those who are working this Easter weekend.
We are extremely grateful for everything that you are doing to help keep us
safe and fed. We know you may be tired, we know you may feel alone, BUT
the staff and children at St Mary & St Martin think that you are AMAZING!
STAY STRONG!
Mrs Richardson
We love this lego model to say thank-you to the NHS.
Great work from the Baughan family!
What can you create from lego?
Send us some photos to share
in the next edition.

What’s Going on at SCHOOL?
The new play-equipment has been built and the soft-play surface added.
The children made Easter Gardens with Mrs Braithwaite.
RANDOM FUN FACT
from Mrs Holland
When a rabbit is happy it will jump and
twist, sometimes in both directions one
after another, before landing.
This is known as a 'bunny binky'.
Most baby rabbits
will often perform
bunny binkies to
show you how
happy you make
them.
Easter is not a good time to be an egg…
Make your own EASTER GARDEN by Mrs Braithwaite
Most of you will have made an Easter garden with me over the years at school, probably when you were in Red Class - a long time ago for those of you in Y6!
Some children made a garden at school last week, so I thought you might like to make your own at home an Easter project.
YOU WILL NEED: A tray or plant pot Soil or compost Moss (or grass) Egg carton 2 matchsticks or twigs A small piece of white cloth Glue or string Large stone and some pebbles
I’ve used a seed tray, but see what you can find at home (make sure you ask an adult first if it’s okay to use it). Some ideas could be: a plant pot, bucket or a smaller version could be made using an old margarine tub. When you’ve chosen your container, fill it with soil or compost. As it’s a garden it is good to have a plant or flowers in it - I’ve planted a pansy. Don’t worry if you haven’t got a plant to put in, you could always make some paper flowers using card or tissue paper and use straws or lollipop sticks for the stems – be creative!
Next, cut a section of the egg box so you have one egg holder. Lay this on its side on top of the soil. This represents the tomb that Jesus was placed in when he was taken off the cross on Good Friday. Next fold your piece of cloth and place it inside the egg box. This represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in which was left inside the tomb when he rose again on Easter Sunday. Place the large stone over the front of the tomb to seal it.
Now it’s time to make your cross. This represents the cross Jesus died on. For this you can use either USED matchsticks, WHICH YOU MUST ASK AN ADULT FOR, or two small twigs. Make them into a cross and secure them with either glue or string. You may need an adult to help you. On the opposite corner to the tomb, place some moss on top of the soil and stick your cross through it into the soil below.
Finally use some small stones to make a path between the tomb and the cross.
There you have it … your own Easter garden!
I hope you have had fun making it.
I would love to see your finished gardens, so please send your photos via email for the next issue!
CRAFT IDEA from Mrs White
Homemade Playdough Recipe
2 cups plain flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (baby oil and
coconut oil work too)
1/2 cup salt.
2 tablespoons cream of tartar.
1 to 1.5 cups boiling water (adding in
increments until it feels just right)
food colouring (adding this to the
boiling water helps it even the colour)
few drops glycerine (optional but makes
it extra stretchy and shiny)
1. Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and
oil in a large mixing bowl
2. Add food colouring to the boiling water
then into the dry ingredients
3. Stir continuously until it becomes a
sticky, combined dough
4. Add the glycerine (optional)
5. Allow it to cool down then take it out of
the bowl and knead it for a couple of
minutes until all of the stickiness has
gone.
6. If it remains a little sticky then add a
touch more flour until just right.
Try adding different colours, glitter or
even vanilla / lemon extract to make it
smell nice!
Thank you to North Notts Bid &
Wilko who provided our key-worker
children and staff with Easter Eggs!
FANTASTIC FILMS recommended by Mrs Holland
Springtime with Roo (U)
This Easter film is a must see for younger children, and for those young at heart! Rabbit is avoiding all things 'Easter' and won't let the others celebrate either. Join Roo, with his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood, as he tries to discover what has changed Rabbit from an Easter Bunny to Easter-Grump!
Hop! (PG) EB, the Easter Bunny's teenage son, heads to Hollywood - determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. Disaster strikes and he ends up living with Fred. As both struggle to deal with the situation, they also learn to grow up.
Reflection
Imagine you can hear crowds
shouting & jeering. You can see
a man struggling up a hill with
heavy planks of wood on his
back. You can hear people
crying. You feel great sadness.
You are in a garden. You can
hear women talking; they are
excited. You can hear
footsteps running. You look
around you and see a figure.
You can see Jesus standing
alive; all your doubts and fears
are lifted. You feel joyful and
happy.
Did you guess the staff

WEBSITE RECOMMENDATION
We often think that our homes are safe places, especially for our children.
However, many accidents occur in the home. Now that we are in ’lock-down’
and spending a lot of time at home we need to do all we can to keep our
families safe. Our website recommendations this week are to help prevent
accidents at home and avoid any unexpected visits to A&E.

Thank you Father God for loving my family, my friends, my school and

Thank you that you care about those things.
Please help me to appreciate the special people and things
you have given to me.
Please help me to bring joy into the lives of people around
