Christ is Risen ! Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,
Truly He is Risen! This is the news, the Good News, the women received upon arriving at the tomb: “Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.” This startling, Good News was not just information for them. They had been impelled to go to the tomb for love of their Lord, to show the final act of affection by anointing his body. Love impelled them; love would not be denied.
Death demonstrates the harshest reality of sin—rupture of relationships. When we grieve the death of a loved one, their stopped heart means that no more can we enjoy that person’s friendship, presence and love. The impact on the relationship causes the grief, for the happiness and fulfillment of human beings are found in our relationships of love. Sin causes this rupture, but Jesus’ death and resurrection offers us reconciliation.
Congratulations to David Merli on becoming a beloved son of God through Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion and to Mark Rohrer for his reception into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. May our Intentional Discipleship continue to inspire them in living this New Life.
In the Glory of the Resurrection,
Fr. Allan F. Wolfe

DIVINE MERCY: NEXT SUNDAY, April 28 we celebrate
Divine Mercy Sunday. The message of The Divine Mercy
is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, he wants
us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so
that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy,
and let it flow through us to others. Jesus told St. Faustina
that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when
“all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are
opened”. A Holy Hour & Benediction will be held at
3:00pm. Plan to attend!

Catholic Evangelization Prayer/Meditation for the Week: Dear Father in Heaven: I know that You desire “that all may be saved
and come to the knowledge of the truth”. I ask you to conform my own heart and mind to Yours, so that I, too, will desire the salvation
of every human being. - Jim Gontis– Diocese of Harrisburg
INDIVIDUAL & PARISH RENEWAL THRU INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP As athletes must train to become proficient in their sport, so Christians must cultivate our relationship with the Lord through
the habits or disciplines of discipleship. Disciplines of Intentional Discipleship: In this fourth month of 2019 let us
intentionally embracing the Six Disciplines of Discipleship and decide concretely how we will use them in our daily living:
Daily Scripture Reading
Daily Prayer
Intentional Sacramental Life
Fellowship
Service to the World
Sharing Christ with Others (Evangelization)
SACRAMENT of the HOLY EUCHARIST—ATTENDING MASS DAILY
More than simply a spiritual exercise, attending daily Mass becomes our daily encounter with the Risen Lord and our
concrete way of dedicating each new day and the way we live it to God’s honor and glory and service of others. If we desire
the New Life of the Risen Lord to continually renew us in God’s love, the Sacrifice of the Holy Mass is the primary way the
Lord offers us his accompanying Presence each day.
The Octave of Easter is the perfect time to begin including the Risen Lord in your daily life through daily Mass. The 40
days of Lent have opened us to new ways and new depths by which to live in union with the LORD. Family schedules can
be challenging, but when we put the Lord first, God helps us find the time and energy for everything else. If you cannot
attend Mass at St. Joseph’s, please look at the daily Mass times offered in other parishes.

Evening of Reflection for All Liturgical Ministers
All those who serve the Sacred Liturgy — altar servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Communion, choir members, ushers, and greeters—are asked to join us for an evening of reflection on Wednesday, May 8th beginning at 6:00 PM.
Having completed the arduous season of Lent culminating with Holy Week, Catholics, especially those who serve the worship of God in the Sacred Liturgy, seek to live out the New Life of God’s beloved sons and daughters more fully than before.
The evening will begin with Vespers at 6:00 PM followed by a light dinner and social time, a spiritual reflection on the beauty and power of the Paschal Mystery expressed in our liturgical ministries, and ministry-specific instructions and reminders.
Please plan to attend and please RSVP to Mary Ellen Gardner in the rectory by May 6th.
The Paschal Candle Prominent not only during the 50 days of Easter, but
also at every Baptism and at every Funeral, the Paschal
Candle serves as a powerful symbol and reminder of the
reality of the Resurrection of the Lord and the New Life he
gives to us in Baptism. The Paschal Candle draws upon the
image from the Old Testament of the LORD God’s
accompanying Presence to the Israelites during their
Exodus in the form of a pillar of fire.
In Christ Crucified and Risen, the LORD has set us
free and accompanies us into a New Life in union with the
Father, and the Son, and the Holy
Spirit. Blessed at the Easter Vigil each
year with these words: “Christ yesterday and today, the
Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega. All time
belongs to him and all the ages. To him be glory and power
through every age and forever. Amen. By his holy and
glorious wounds, may Christ the Lord guard us and protect
us. Amen,” the new Paschal Candle expresses our Christian
Faith through the images of the cross, the Alpha & the Omega,
the 5 nails for his 5 wounds, and the new year. May the Light of
Christ illumine us each day in growing as his Intentional
Disciples.
