East of England Regional Network of Parent Carer
Forums
Parents and carers working with commissioners
and providers to improve services for disabled
children, young people and their families.
Chair’s Introduction
The world for everyone involved with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is changing at a startling rate. The Children and Families Act and the Care Act are bringing in new legislation, new working practises and new challenges. But equally well, we have a once in a generation opportunity to make things better for some of the most vulnerable, needy and worthy people in our community.
The National Network of Parent Carer Forums was established to ensure that parents and carers, the people who share the every-day lives, experiences, highs and lows of those living with SEND, have a voice and can help grasp this opportunity. We have grown from humble beginnings to a group of 63,000 parent carers work-ing together to further these ends.
In the Eastern region, we are proud to be a part of that national network and as eleven parent carer forums coming together we share our experiences, our learning and our journey. We work with commissioners, policy makers and those who deliver services to design, develop and review what they offer, articulating what really matters to children with SEND and their families with the aim of improving outcomes. As parent carers we bring our own experi-ences but behind every one of us stand 63,000 other parents in the national network. Our training, our ethos and our approach mean that we are able to represent the views and experiences of families in our region.
This is an exciting time in the world of SEND and never has parent carer participation been more important. I hope that the information in this leaflet will introduce you to who we are and the work we do in the Eastern region leading to better partnerships and better outcomes for our children.
