The risk of earthquake in The risk of earthquake in BangladeshBangladesh

The last great earthquake in Bangladesh occurred in 1887

About 1,500 people died in that earthquake Experts say great earthquakes generally

occur every 100 years or so

Page 11: Earthquake Presentation

Where are we?Where are we?

One hundred years have already passed after 1887.

So, a massive scale earthquake may occur in our country anytime.

Page 12: Earthquake Presentation

Specially, Dhaka City is at bigger risk because of the unplanned construction of high-rise buildings.

Any big earthquake will cause a great disaster in the city. High-rise buildings will collapse and hundreds of thousands of people may die.

Page 13: Earthquake Presentation

Buildings have been built in an unplanned manner in both Old, right, and New Dhaka

Page 14: Earthquake Presentation

What should we do?What should we do?

Firstly, there should be a lot of research work on the possibility and effect of big earthquakes in Bangladesh

The government should strictly monitor construction of buildings

Awareness programs should be conducted among general people

We, students, can play effective role in this regard
