Early Years Education (Online) MA /

The Early Years Education (Online) MA offersexceptional career development opportunities forearly childhood practitioners and otherprofessionals worldwide. This new programmebuilds upon the success of our establishedcampus-based Early Years Education MAprogramme.

 Degree summary 

This Master's degree offers students the opportunity to enhance theirprofessional development and understanding of national and globalissues in early learning, early years policy and curricula; criticallyevaluate a range of literature about young children’s learning and bestpractice in early education; develop their understanding of researchmethodology with and about young children; conduct their ownsmall-scale research project in a setting of their own choice. Studentscan expect to study an average of 300 hours per 30-credit module and600 hours for the Dissertation. The number of weekly study hours canvary during the programme. As a general guide, students following thesuggested 2-year programme structure can expect to study 7-14 hoursper week and 1-2 hours per day.

// This new online programme provides students worldwide with anopportunity to access the exceptional expertise of the IOE.

// The Early Years Education staff team at the IOE have been at theforefront of international research for two decades including therenowned Effective Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Education(EPPSE) project.

The programme is delivered through online sessions based on Moodle,our virtual learning environment. Assessment is by 5,000-wordcoursework assignments and a 20,000-word dissertation.

 Degree structure 

Mode: Part-time: 2 years; Flexible: up to 5 years

Location: London, Bloomsbury

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programmeconsists of four core modules (120 credits) and a dissertation (60credits).

 Your career 

This is a new programme and no information on graduate destinations istherefore available. Graduates of the campus-based Early YearsEducation MA are currently working as advisers to local and nationalgovernments; nursery, children’s centre and primary school seniorleaders; further and higher education tutors; early years doctoral andfunded researchers.

Employability

This programme will enable students to understand and reflect oncurrent knowledge of early years policy and practice in the UK andinternationally; raise awareness of research into early childhood practiceand of research methods and approaches relevant to the field of study;enable early years educators to gain a critical understanding of policydevelopment in early childhood services, at a local, national andinternational level.

 Entry requirements 

A minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor’s degree or equivalent ina relevant subject. Appropriate experience of working with youngchildren is desirable. Applications will be considered on a case-by-casebasis.

English language proficiency level

If your education has not been conducted in the English language, youwill be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level ofEnglish proficiency.

The level of English language proficiency for this programme is: Good.
