Kindergarten Curriculum - For Now and the Future Our teachers want to build a foundation for student success as they go through the steps of education and through life. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has set foundations for kindergarten student learning in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Kindergarteners will be exposed to a comprehensive program of learning based on the TEKS, consisting of English language arts, math, science, social studies, health, physical education, music, art and technology. This curriculum is aligned with what they will learn from PK-12th grade. Kindergarten Registration Process To register, please take the documents listed below to your neighborhood school and complete the kindergarten registration forms. Kindergarten Curriculum - For Now and the Future

Eligibility Requirements PPCD

When enrolling, families may schedule an appointment to determine eligibility for a tuition waiver. Documentation of eligibility must be provided at the appointment. Students may qualify for a tuition waiver if they live inside Lubbock ISD boundaries and meet at least one of the following criteria:

CHILD FINDChild Find is a program designed to locate students with disabilities so they can receive appropriate special education services. The District conducts early childhood screenings, displays public notices, and advertises the availability of services through the mediaand meetings with private schools. For children who are not yet three years of age, areferral is routed to Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). For more information, pleasecall 806-219-0400.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Unable to speak and comprehend the English language;• Economically disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the National Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program);• Homeless as de�ned by 42 USC11302;• The child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority;

DOCUMENTATION NEEDED FOR PREKINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Military Dependents must also have the following:Department of Defense photo identi�cation or Statement of Service letter from the AG or Human Resources, if active reservist or member of the Texas National Guard

Families with Children in foster care must also have the following:Documentation from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services

• The child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; • The child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES (PPCD)

PPCD Program provides special education and related servicesto eligible children between the ages of three and �ve.

The PPCD Program’s objectives are designed to address thedevelopment of the following skills: social, conceptual, language andcommunication, motor, and self-help. The program also provides parent support and training. Teachers with university degrees and special education certi�cation provide learning opportunities that are carefully aligned to the child’s current level of development, the Texas Pre-Kindergarten Guidelines, and the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

PPCD ELIGIBILITYChildren with disabilities may be eligible for services on their third birthday. The disabilities are de�ned by the Texas Education Agency. Lubbock ISD will complete an evaluation to identify any disabilities a child may have.

PREKINDERGARTEN (For all eligible four year old children)

Welcome to Prekindergarten!

All Prekindergarten teachers hold bachelor degrees or higher in education and are specifically trained in child development and early education. Teachers believethat working with parents in a child’s education is highly effective. High-qualityearly learning experiences prepare children in school readiness and for life.

Lubbock ISD provides Prekindergarten for eligible children who are four years old on or before September 1of the current school year. Students may qualify forPrekindergarten in three different ways: State Funded, HeadStart or Tuition based Prekindergarten. Head Start provides Prekindergarten for low-income families as well as health, dental, mental health, and family support service for school readiness. All programs are offered and housed together on thirty-one elementary campuses.

Prekindergarten Curriculum - For now and the FutureTeachers focus on the whole child in aspects of children’s cognitive, social, emotional, language, artistic, and physical development. They thoughtfully plan activities that encourage a child’s strengths, natural curiosity and motivation to learn. Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines and the EarlyLeaning Framework of Head Start comprise our instructional foundation and are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) K-12. Our curriculum focuses on oral language development, early literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, social skills, technology and physical development.

Special Needs

EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION (ECI) DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION BIRTH TO THREE Early childhood intervention (ECI) developmental education birth to three is a program of services speci�cally designed for the early identi�cation and intervention of children at risk for or exhibiting delays in development. REGIONAL PROGRAM FOR THE DEAF PRESCHOOL Children with a hearing loss, ages three to �ve years, may qualify forthis preschool program if an educational need is identi�ed through

comprehensive testing. A teacher certi�ed in deaf education providesinstruction in areas that include communication skills, SEE signs, oral communication, use of ampli�cation and listening skills

depending on their documented needs. Related services that support their educational progress are also available. For more information call 806-219-0370.

BILINGUAL AND ESL SERVICESLISD o�ers Dual Language Programs (Bilingual) and English as a Second Language (ESL) Programs for students who speak other languages.
