Friday, January 20, 2017: Last day to earn points for AR Night Out 2nd grade 25 points...3rd-5th grade 50 points

Tuesday, January 24, 2017: School Store at lunchWednesday, January 25, 2017: Hot Lunch

News from the Nurse: Erickson Elementary School has a new nurse. We want to welcome Bonnie Johnson to Erickson. Bonnie has been the nurse at DuJardin Elementary School the past two years. We are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. LaFontaine.

AR Night Out: AR Night out is scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2017. Students in 2nd grade must earn 25 AR points and students in third - fifth grade must earn 50 AR points by tomorrow.

5Essentials Survey: Erickson is asking that parents take a few minutes to complete the 5Essentials survey before January 30, 2017. The school needs at least 20% of parents to participate in the survey to receive any results. We are very close to the required participation rate. If parents or guardians complete the survey and return the attached slip to school, their child(ren) will be entered into a raffle to become Principal or Assistant Principal for ½ a day. Five other students will be selected to have lunch with the principal. Parents can access the survey by visiting https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/ and selecting Parent survey.

Kindergarten Registration: Kindergarten registration is right around the corner. Any student who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2017, is eligible for kindergarten during the 2017-2018 school year. Kindergarten registration packets will be available the first week of February. If you have any questions, please contact Erickson Elementary School. Kindergarten registration week is February 21st-24th.

Ronald McDonald House Fundraiser: Students may bring in pop tabs during the month of January. The Pillar that collects the most Pop Tabs will earn a lunch with Mr. Haugens.

    Dear Parents,

  • Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club Students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade are eligible to participate in the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club. All students have to do is complete at least six hours of recreational reading between now and February 17, 2017. Reading for school or for homework assignments doesn’t count, but most other reading does. Look for the reading logs in your child(ren)’s back pack soon. You must hand the reading log to your teacher by Friday, February 17, 2017. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Each student who accomplishes this goal is eligible to receive one free admission ticket valid at participating Six Flags theme parks. Encourage your child to read for fun and reward them for their efforts! If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Grover.

    Ozzie Reading Club

Erickson School will participate in the Ozzie Reading Club. The Club is a reading incentive program that awards students with a free ticket to a Kane County Cougar game as well as food vouchers for “hitting a home run by reading.” In order to qualify students in grades three through five must read, take accelerated reader tests, and earn at total of 20 accelerated reader points during the eight week program. Students in second grade must pass a total of 16 accelerated reader tests to qualify for the free ticket.

The Ozzie Reading Club will start the week of January 23rd. Each classroom has an Ozzie Reading Chart and classroom teachers will be posting the Ozzie Reading Club points once a week. The Club will run until March 17th. All students who earn the required number of points or tests passed will be given a voucher to mail in for the free ticket and food coupons.

  • 5Essentials Survey Dear Parents,

We need your help! The 5Essentials Survey is administered by the Illinois State Board of Education and measures schools in 5 key areas: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, and Ambitious Instruction.   We really value your feedback and we encourage you to complete the survey by logging on to https://survey.5‐essentials.org/illinois/ .    You can access it directly by going to the District 13 website www.sd13.org and clicking on the link on the front page.

We are required to have 20% parent participation in order to receive any results.    If parents complete the survey and return this slip to the school office by January 27th, the student will be entered into a raffle.  One student will be randomly chosen to be the principal for ½ a day, another student will be randomly chosen to be the assistant principal for ½ a day, and 5 random winners will be chosen to have lunch with the principal.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME!

I have completed the 5Essentials survey and would like my son/daughter to be entered into the raffle.

  • Pre-School Screening

Bloomingdale School District 13 164 S. Euclid Ave.

    Bloomingdale, IL 60108 630-671-5036

Pre-school Screening will be conducted in School District 13 throughout the school year for all children between the ages of 2.9 and 5 years old. The purpose of this screening is to identify pre-school children who may have potential difficulties when they enter the school setting. This screening assesses gross and fine motor skills, speech and language skills, social – emotional skills, and vision and hearing skills.

If you have a child of pre-school age and live within the District 13 boundaries, please call the District 13 Special Education office at 630-671-5036 to learn more about this free screening process.

If you know of a family with a pre-school child who may not receive this information, please share it with them. Our goal is to have all pre-school children participate in this screening. Research shows early intervention is important in helping children progress and achieve their potential. Please take advantage of this important service! Sincerely,

    Samia Hefferan

“What happened to my son?” “To our family?” “What did I do wrong?” At this very special GPS event, David Sheff will reflect on these heart-rending questions as he shares the desperation of his son Nic's addiction and the impact on their family. Based on his international best-selling memoir, “Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey through His Son's Addiction”, Sheff’s honest reflection, and wisdom make for a powerful evening all will benefit from. It is

the story of an athlete and honor student, his descent into addiction and the promise of recovery in rehab. Sheff's preoccupation with Nic became an addiction in itself, and the obsessive worry and stress took a tremendous toll. But as a journalist, he instinctively researched every avenue of treatment that might save his son and refused to give up on Nic. Here is a presentation that brings immediacy to the emotional rollercoaster of loving a child who seems beyond help. From the early warning signs, to denial, to fear, to grief, to hope, this is a story of unwavering parental love. David Sheff is also the award winning author of, “Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America’s Greatest Tragedy”, which argues drug use is a preventable, treatable

disease and not a moral failing. His ongoing research in psychology, neuroscience, medicine, and examination of the science of addiction earned him a place on Time magazine's list of the world's most influential people.
