48. SUPERINTENDENT'S FINANCIAL STATEMENT FOR THE PERIODENDING APRIL 30, 2006

DescriptionDescriptionDescriptionDescriptionThe Superintendent's Financial Statement for the period ending April30, 2006, indicates that the district is within the amended budgetthrough the tenth month of the fiscal year.  The school district'sGeneral Fund State Revenues are overstated by $5,555,333, becausethe State of Florida advances the school district the State share of theFlorida Education Finance Program (FEFP) in the first quarter of thefiscal year.  This advance funding was based upon the estimate ofstudents in the 2005 Legislature's Conference Report which was thebasis for the Second FEFP Calculation and the State's funding ismandated at at least 10% of the FEFP formula.  Sarasota is "propertyrich" and qualified for the advance funding.  The October andFebruary student counts were higher than the 2004-05 fiscal year, but lower than anticipated before the fiscal year began.  TheAmended Budget for the General Fund reflects this lower revenueamount.  The $5,555,333 will be paid to the State of Florida duringthe month of May and will be reflected in the next Superintendent's
