Pillai believes in the holistic development of the students and the institutions relentlessly strive toward empowering the students to become key contributors to the community. One such part of MES is Pillai College of Education and Research at New Panvel affiliated to the University of Mumbai, approved by the NCTE and Accredited 'A' Grade by NAAC. It was established in the year 2007 and offers full time B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses, is a recognized Ph.D. center (Edu.) and a PCP center for M.A. (Edu.) IDOL, University of Mumbai. The institution is situated amidst tranquil residential housing societies and provides a sound, conducive learning environment to the student teachers. Serene environment and proximity of the institution to the nearest road and rail services serve as an added advantage. Designed with a futuristic outlook and well-equipped state-of-the-art technology, the institution works steadily towards its mission “To promote purposive education through globalization of mind with societal insight, using education for value transmission to facilitate the student teachers to perform effectively different roles as a teacher in the present society.”

ABOUT THE THEME OF THE SEMINAREnvironmental Re-engineering Series – 9: CLEAN AND GREEN PLANETWe do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children! The wisdom that exudes from the words is alarming and compels us to take note of the environment around us. Our life depends on the planet; the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink are all the by-products of a healthy Earth. Our dependence on the resources is increasing many folds. With this rate we may exhaust all the natural resources within a couple of decades. It is high time we stop and think; bring about a

change in our attitude and adopt environmentally healthy practices to help us to live within the limits of our planet and pass onto our future generations a hearty and healthy green planet. There is a need to feel: “My Earth is my responsibility” and consciously strive for making earth a better place to live in. Carrying on with our tradition of Environmental seminar series, this year we have dedicated our seminar to “Clean and Green Planet”. Being a teacher education institution we feel it is our responsibility and duty to sensitize the students towards the need for conserving and preserving a clean and green planet.

This seminar is especially for student teachers, school and college students. Papers from teachers and research scholars are also invited. Entry is restricted to two students from schools and colleges

OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR To create awareness about our roles and responsibilities towards our environment. To develop an understanding of the impact of human activities on the environment. To explore ways to keep our environment clean and green. To acquire the knowledge of sustainable lifestyle changes. To analyze the spiritual relationship between humans and the environment.

CORE AREAS:Sub-Theme I – Swachh BharatDalai Lama rightly quoted “A clean environment is a human right like any other. It is therefore part of our responsibility towards others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy if not healthier than we found it”. India is a democratic society therefore it is important for us to be aware of our rights as well as our duties towards our planet. It is our responsibility to provide our children with a clean environment which will ensure physical and mental well-being of everyone. Besides that a clean environment is a visual treat for all. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative by the Government of India is not merely a thought but a resolution

towards prosperity. Efforts taken by people from different walks of life in making our nation clean and healthy will go a long way in sustaining our future.

Sub-Theme 2 – Green PlanetA green planet is an investment. The steps we take have to be towards creating and maintaining a green world. Materialistic approach towards life is leaving the natural world bruised and battered. One of the possible solutions towards our problem is increasing the spiritual connection between humanity and the Earth. It can be achieved by increasing our engagement with nature. We not only need to plant trees but also need to conserve and preserve what we have. The Van Mahotsav focusing on tree plantation has been a tremendous success; now it is time to take it to the next level by channelizing all our energies towards post plantation work. Any processes that we start have to be taken towards completion. Let us ensure that our actions however small are towards converting our planet into a green and healthy one.
