CyberPatriot Goals

CyberPatriot is intended to be:

1) Accessible to ANY HS student;

2) Seamless path from HS, thru college, to the workforce; and

3) Benefits all CyberPatriot partners AND our nation!

CyberPatriot has grown impressively in a short time ― the momentum is increasing!

CyberPatriot – Development

Three Phases:

I. Concept Demo. Feb 09 Orlando; 8 FL Teams (7 AFJROTC/1 CAP)

II. Pilot National Deployment. May 09 – Feb 10; AFJROTC/CAP (~200 teams, 44 states+)

III. Full National Deployment/Institutionalize.

2010-11 year – All schools (500 + 500 teams)

CyberPatriot III Features: 1) New, flexible online education – suitable for general security

awareness AND team preparation2) Each team provided license for Microsoft Academic Alliance

Developer AA™ software3) Two Divisions: “All-Service” (JROTC/CAP) & “Open”4) Competitor Relationship Management (CRM):

a) Registration/verificationb) RSS feeds, Wiki, Blog, Team Webpage

5) Mentoring program (local or online)6) Culminates in National Championships in D.C. with

CyberFutures Symposium & Technology Exhibition

Entrance Fee of only $350 provides full access, team kits, all team expenses to in-person events

CyberPatriot III – Online Component

How it works: 1) Coach can access training materials at 0-day at:

highschoolcdc.com (CIAS website)2) After verification by principal, coach registers

team (up to 5 primary/5 alternates) on: http://www.afa.org/CyberPatriot/

3) Online qualification rounds next fall:a) Team downloads encrypted image (VM)b) At STARTEX, password is released, team

unlocks VM which connects to scoring enginec) Progress on hardening VM is provided to team

as “% complete”

VMs increase in complexity/variety as rounds progress

CyberPatriot III – System Requirements

Minimun Requirements:

Hardware:• 1 Ghz (Intel preferred) processor • 2 GB RAM• 20 GB of free disk space• Keyboard & Mouse• Network connection (DSL or better)• 1024x768 or higher display• (Optional) It is recommended to use a projector or large display to share the screen output with the rest of the team, but not required.

Software:• Operating System (Windows 2000 or newer, recent VMware supported Linux, or Macintosh 10.4.11 or later)• Web Browser• ZIP client capable of handling encrypted ZIP files (7-Zip preferred)• VMware Player (for Windows or Linux) or VMWare Fusion (for Macintosh)

For later Qualification Rounds with multiple (up to 3) VMs, a separate system for each VM is desired

CyberPatriot registration is open now!(a Coach [teacher]-centric process):

1) Two-step process: Coach is “verified,” then granted access

2) Coach creates “team” & verifies students 3) “Protected space” for coach/student/other team

interaction within CRM system4) MSDN AA software to Coach5) Mentors selected by Coach
