IntroductionSystems in the building automationbecome more and more important not onlyin new buildings but also in existing build-ings requiring refurbishment. Buildingautomation with its monitoring, control,regulating and optimisation devices is anessential pre-condition for a comfortable,energy efficient and economical buildingmanagement. This pre-condition can, however, only befulfilled if the control units and other com-ponents are co-ordinated to the optimumand if they reliably adapt to the differentrequirements during heat transport andheat transmission. Oventrop offers their own modular buildingautomation system called “DynaTemp”.The system is used for individual roomtemperature control, temperature control,potable water circulation, hydronic balanc-ing as well as heat generation, storage anddistribution.Integration into the systems of variousother manufacturers is also possible.

“DynaTemp CR-BS” and “DynaTemp CR-BX” are used in conjunction with compo-nents with bus technology for room temper-ature control. For “DynaTemp CR-BS”, control is carriedout at the radiator. For “DynaTemp CR-BX”,control is carried out centrally in the automa-tion station. “DynaTemp CW-BS” is used to monitor andcontrol the circulation of potable water dur-ing a period of thermal disinfection. “DynaTemp CS-BS” is used to control theefficient storage and distribution of heatingobtained from renewable sources. All control stations are marked with theirspecific product names. They feature inter-faces for open bus standards allowing thevisualisation, calculation and feedback of thedata at all displays within the network.

“DynaTemp” System summary/Advantages“DynaTemp” is a modular system for theautomation of systems for heat generation,distribution and transmission as well as cool-ing, ventilation and sanitary. The Oventrop components with sensors andactuators are the basic components in theso-called room or field level. They are con-nected to the “DynaTemp” control units(automation stations) via bus based room orfield modules and provide automation ofindividual tasks of a centralised buildingcontrol system. To save energy and increasecomfort conditions for the user, the“DynaTemp” control units handle the rele-vant tasks. Standardised interfaces allow acentralised building control system withexternal access to be created.The control stations can also be integratedinto an existing building control system via“BACnetIP”. Monitoring of the automatedappliances can be carried out via the centralaccess. Modification and viewing of the installationparameters is possible with direct connec-tion to a computer. When connected to aLAN network, it is also possible to accessthese parameters via internet. The controlstations and their software are programmedfor use in heating, sanitary and cooling sys-tems.

“DynaTemp CR-BS” is a bus based systemfor central temperature setback for energysaving. The system features preinstalledsoftware for the control of external roomtemperature controllers via C-bus roommodules. The integrated web server allowsaccess to the system via a PC and a stan-dard web browser. Individual room temperature control is car-ried out at the radiator with the help of thethermostat “Uni LHZ” or “Uni FHZ” withconventional sensor technology or at theroom thermostat. Depending on the required setback or heat-ing periods, the individual rooms are con-trolled via the central unit DDC “CR-BS”. 1 Control unit “DynaTemp CR-BS” for tem-perature setback, with sensor data trans-mission via cable or radio.

The room or radiator thermostats “Uni LHZ”or “Uni FHZ” are connected to the roommodules and the latter to the central unit viaa C-bus cable. These room modules areavailable with or without wireless receiver.Wired window contacts can be connectedto both room modules.The model with wireless receiver allows theintegration of “SecuSignal” window handlesof the company HOPPE AG or of solar pow-ered window contacts based on EnOceanradio technology.1-fold and 8-fold room modules for the con-nection of the thermostats are available. “DynTemp CR-BX” is a bus based systemfor central room temperature control.Contrary to the “DynaTemp CR-BS”, roomtemperature control is carried out centrallyat the DDC “CR-BX” unit. This unit includesan integrated web server and can thus beoperated by standard web browsers. The actuators are connected to the controlunit via the room modules and the C-bus.Communication between the room ther-mostats with EnOcean wireless transmitterand receiver and the room modules is car-ried out via radio transmitter. 1 DDC “CR-BX” for individual room tem-perature control with control signal trans-mission via radio transmitter (EnOcean) orcable.

“DynaTemp CW-BS”Automatic thermal balancing and

thermal disinfection in potable water circulation systems

“DynaTemp CW-BS” is a bus based systemfor automatic thermal balancing and ther-mal disinfection in potable water circulationsystems according to DVGW work sheetsW 551 and W 553.The regulating valves “Aquastrom DT” withelectromotive actuators and temperaturesensors are connected to the C-bus via thebus application field modules.Configuration of the operating mode “Mas-ter” is carried out automatically duringinstallation.The integrated web server allows access tothe system via a PC and a standard webbrowser. Settings of the installation para-meters (e.g. time profiles) and a query ofthe separation data, the current status andthe disinfection records can be carried outvia the menu.An external 24 V transformer should beused for the power supply.

The installation hydraulics which is, how-ever, governed by the maintenance of anadequate potable water circulation temper-ature (according to DVGW 55°C) is opti-mized by the stations.Temperature detection is carried out by theOventrop valve “Aquastrom DT” for potablewater circulation systems. The sensor tem-peratures are transmitted to the automationstation via the bus bas ed field module andthe control demands for the “AquastromDT” are transmitted to the actuators by the“DynaTemp CW-BS” via the field module.Thermal disinfection is also controlled viathe automation station. The latter transmitsa starting signal to the boiler control, thepotable water is increased and thermal dis-infection of the risers of the circulation in-stallation is carried out. The automationstation can be connected to the centralisedbuilding control system for monitoring andvisualization purposes. Warning messagescan be transmitted via LAN, internet or mo-biles.

“DynaTemp CS-BS”Networking of stations for

heat generator/boiler and solar thermal energy

“DynaTemp CS-BS” allows the linkage ofup to 6 bus application controllers of sta-tions for solar heat generation, heating ofpotable water and different heating circuitsvia a bus technology (S-bus). The data fromthe different controllers are fed into the datalogger “CS-BS” in order to store and viewthe operating status, temperatures and flowrates over a longer period. New parametersettings for the controllers can be deter-mined with the help of these data and theoperation behaviour of the complete instal-lation, including the storage cylinder andboiler can be improved. A diagnosis oferrors can also be carried out.

The installation data can be viewed via aPC or a standard smartphone, e.g. iPhoneor Blackberry. The integrated Web interfaceallows the access to the system via a stan-dard web browser.The connection to the network (LAN) andthe internet can be carried out via a stan-dard router. A flexible, even external, ac-cess to the installation is thus possible. Software/Potential of energy saving

SoftwareThe central unit “DynaTemp” is equippedwith the required software and can easilybe integrated into an existing computernetwork. The software is selected by aninternet browser by entering the IPaddress of the corresponding central unitin the address line.Operation of the menu is intuitive and canbe compared to internet pages. For an effi-cient operation of the system, the parame-ters can be set with a few mouse clicks.1 Screen shot of the heating plan in thecentral unit “DynaTemp CR-BS”Potential of energy savingA reduction of the room temperature byonly 1°C provokes an energy saving ofabout 5-6%.2 The graphic illustrates the possible ener-gy saving in the Building Services Industrydepending on the use of “intelligent” tech-nologies.In this instance, an average room tempera-ture setback of about 3-4 Kelvin onapprox. 140 days of the heatingperiod/year were assumed:The use of the “DynaTemp” technologyresults in an energy saving of about 15%during the heating period.The use of the “DynaTemp” technologytogether with the window contacts cansave up to 20% of energy.3 Screen shot disinfection record in apotable water circulation system duringthermal disinfection (DDC “CR-BS” centralunit).4 Screen shot separation data during dis-infection phase (DDC “CW-BS”).
