What is the Study GroupProgramme?

The Study Group programme at Dublin Institute of Technology(DIT) in Ireland is a short, intensive programme offered tostudents from around the world. Participants in the programmewill attend classes at DIT related to their major subject and willundertake English language courses. Students will alsoundertake cultural courses and visit important cultural andtourist sites throughout Ireland. By participating in the StudyGroup Programme, students get an opportunity to learn aboutdifferent cultures and prepare themselves for possibleopportunities to work and study abroad in the future.

Why participate in the Study Group Programme?

You should participate in the Study Group programme if:

� You would like to develop your knowledge of a different educational and cultural environment, in an English speakingcountry.

� You would like to meet and work with other students in an Irish higher education environment.

� You would like to improve your English through dedicated English language courses, while immersed in an English speaking country.

� You would like to develop highly important skills such as team work, independent learning, critical thinking, communication and group based learning.

How is the Study Group programmetaught?

� You will be taught by highly qualified and very experienced academics and English language tutors.

� There are lots of opportunities to practice English through group work.

� The class sizes are small to ensure that there is maximum support from lecturers.

� Learning will involve many different styles of third level teaching such as lectures, tutorials, workshops, cultural trips and online learning.

� You will learn how to take control of your own learning and will reflect on your learning experience throughout the programme.

What other activities are there in the Study Group Programme?

In addition to your classes and learning activities, during theStudy Group Programme you will:� Visit the research and innovation facilities in DIT, including

the industrial incubation centre run by the DIT Hothouse.� Visit significant historic landmarks throughout Dublin and

other towns and cities in Ireland.� Visit well known shopping districts.� Undertake industry visits to companies relevant to your

discipline.

What is the schedule for the StudyGroup Programme?

� The Study Group programme runs during the summer and winter months and is usually 3-5 weeks in length.

� Classes take place from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday to Thursdayon each of the three – five weeks, with cultural events taking place on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is a free day.

� You will attend classes in your own discipline for approximately five hours per week.

� Other classes which you will take are specific to the Study Group Programme and include:� Oral Presentation Skills� English for Reading and Writing� Communicative Competence in English� Using Technology to Support Learning

� Networking opportunities will be provided, where you can meet with students and lecturers from your discipline.

Where is the Study GroupProgramme taking place?

� The Study Group Programme is offered by DIT in Dublin, Ireland. DIT is one of the largest third level education providers in Ireland. It is ranked in the top 100 universities under 50 years of age, in the world, and is consistently ranked in the top 4% of universities worldwide.

� Dublin is the capital city of Ireland, a country of 5 million people in western Europe.

� Dublin has a young vibrant population including 50,000 students.
