ADULT & COMMUNITY EDUCATION
BRINGING THE UNIVERSITY TO YOU
DUBLIN
DIPLOMA IN AUTISM STUDIESCERTIFICATE IN MENTAL HEALTH
IN THE COMMUNITY
This innovative course, which was nominated for an Aontas STAR Award, is
designed to introduce you to the different ways in which people on the autistic
spectrum experience the world. You will learn about the history of autism, the
importance of early intervention, education and inclusion, and legislation and
policies that govern best practice guidelines and models of service. The issue of
mental health and ASD will be examined, and you will also explore how a person
with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may contribute positively to society.
This Programme, in partnership with Mental Health Ireland, will look at how
communities can enhance mental and emotional well-being through best
practice in mental health promotion and suicide prevention. It takes a recovery
approach to mental health in the community in meeting the needs of people who
experience mental health difficulties. Through the principles and practice of
citizenship, empowerment, social inclusion, user involvement, hope and social
justice it is possible to reduce stigma, create new community led resources and
develop connections between groups, individuals and organisations.
