It is parents responsibility to organise and ensure children are here every day unless they are sick or there are extenuang circumstances, which MUST BE EXPLAINED. Sending your children to school is not a choice if you wish them to achieve outcomes. They must aend school every day they are able to. Please work with us and if your children cannot aend school, please contact us by school app, phone, leer or email to explain the absence. Any issues please ring the school. Teachers will connue to contact home and chase these explanaons. We need to all work together on ensuring your children, our students excel and do the best they can when they are at school every day! Travelling to school each day safely is very important for all of our students, your children, making it safely to and from school. We are situated on busy roads and Fitzroy Street in parcular is very heavy with traffic. It is important and central to being a parent, as a good role model for your children, that you encourage them to use the crossing at both Dalton Street and Fitzroy Street. They are manned for a reason. Please dont call your children across the road or walk in between cars and buses. There have been a couple of near misses lately with community people ringing in to report our students are being unsafe. Our school has educaon programs on road safety and we do follow through with them, however, we need your support and you to pracse the safe rules. Early drop off before 8.15 is not available at school. I have noced children are coming earlier with daylight saving in parcular. Please know I understand parents work and begin early shiſts, however we are not a day care centre. There are NO staff on supervision before 8.30am. Please dont drop off or allow your children to walk to school before this me thinking that because they are on school premises, someone is supervising them. Gates will not open unl 8.15 of a morning. The Department’s Revised Enrolment Policy—What has Changed? The enrolment cap is the number of students that can be enrolled at a school based on the school’s permanent accommodation. The enrolment cap tells us whether the school may or may not have the capacity to accept non-local enrolments. It is not a target or limit on the number of local enrolments a school can take. Each school with a local intake area will have a cap set by the department from Term 4 2019. This applies to all the schools in Dubbo. To discuss this further, please feel free to make an appointment to meet with our Principal.

Touch Football Gala Day Last Tuesday 12th November our boys and girls touch teams travelled to Orange for a Gala Day. The boys made it all the way to the quarter final and won 8-1 against Orange Public School with Alex Matthews, Angus Etcell, Kobi Auld, Logan Johnson, Blake Payne and Andrew Powyer all adding to the score board. They then went on to play a strong Catherine McAuley side in which the boys went down 6-3. Our girls team narrowly missed out on a place in the finals after they played against Orange Public School. Both teams played with fantastic sportsmanship and should be extremely proud of their efforts on the day.

Kinder Opal Visit Another small group of Kindergarten students went to visit the Opal Nursing Home yesterday. Students sang nursery rhymes and fun songs as the residents joined in with bells and tambourines. Once again, students had the chance to chat with the residents. We met up with ‘Peter’ again and he told us that he used to be a shearer and ‘Mike’ who loved joining in with our singing. The residents were excited to see the children for a second visit and look forward to us coming back closer to Christmas time.

Move to Learn Maths All Kindergarten students have been going out each Wednesday for a session of Maths in the playground. Students rotate around various activities that combine mathematical thinking with moving. Some of the activities that students have so far participated in include jumping hurdles while counting by tens, reading o’clock times and playing ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf’ and rolling dice to quickly read the dot patterns before star jumping the corresponding number of dots.

Kinder Transition Program The Kinder 2020 transition program is into its 3rd week. Over this time we have read lots of books and sung songs, completed craft activities and explored the school. This week, every afternoon at 2.30pm we have parent information sessions running from the OLGA where parents are invited to come along and learn more about services that are provided to help with the transition process. The coffee van will be available at these sessions along with information including school uniform requirements, forms of communication at DSPS, tips on encouraging reading in children and ideas around quality texts, before and after school care services and the important role of the P&C.

Growth Mindset Our Growth Mindset word of the fortnight is 'Challenge'. Are there things that you find challenging at school? What actions can we take if we find something challenging? How does it feel to work hard and overcome challenges?
