Programs of Study

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has partnered with several universities to offer students a Dual Degree in engineering. A student completes three years at York College, obtaining requisite credits in science, math, computer science, and general electives. The student then transfers to a partnering school to complete the final two years of the program with focused courses in engineering.

York College, founded in 1890, is a private four year liberal arts college affiliated with the churches of Christ. York offers numerous bachelor degrees and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The campus is located in York, Nebraska, a proud progressive community just 45 minutes west of Lincoln.

Student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1 with a student enroll-ment that is close to 500. Typical class size is 22.

The student population consists of young men and women from about 40 states and countries.

The York Panthers compete in the National Associa-tion of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II and the National Christian College Athletic Association. York College is a founding member of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Extracurricular choices include social service clubs, athletic teams, performance groups, Christian outreach groups, literary publications, special interest organiza-tions, and a wide range of intramural sports.

Dual Degree in Engineering York College is partnering with several universities to offer a Dual Degree in engineering. In this program, you complete three years at YC, earning credits in science, math, computer science, and general education courses. Then you transfer to a partner school for two years of focused courses in engineering.

You will graduate with two bachelor’s degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science from York College and an engineering degree from the second college.

AdvisingAfter completing the course work at YC, the application process to the engineering department at the partner school is streamlined. A liaison advisor at YC and at partner colleges will assist you to assure that you complete proper prerequisites for the various types of engineering programs. You will work closely with your advisor to be sure that you complete the necessary classwork at YC so that you are able to complete the program in the promised time frame.

The 3/2 program is designed for a smooth and easy transition between schools. If you have completed the proper courses at YC and your GPA is above a certain level, all you will need is a letter of recommendation from your YC advisor and a simple application.

Dr. Terence Kite, professor of physics, directs the program at York College and is the student advisor. Dr. Kite worked on such a program at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. for many years.
