1. Name of Program: Graduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (D.T.M. & H.)
2. Program Duration: 6 months, 1st week of April - September each year
3. Objectives of the Program:
At the end of the course, graduates should: 3.1 Possess academic and professional ethics. 3.2 Gain theoretical and practical knowledge of tropical medicine as well as current medical innovations and practical applications.
3.3 Be able to efficiently analyze and solve problems related to tropical medicine using theoretical knowledge and clinical experience gained during the program.

Tuition Fees The total fee must be paid to the Office of the Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine within 2 weeks after the beginning of the course.

Health & Safety
At the Faculty, Hospital for Tropical Diseases, (Tel 0 2306 9100-9 ext 1414) is the main hospital providing treatment and care for students.
During Field Study In cases that students have accident during field study, they can be admitted to a government hospital, or the nearest hospital/medical clinic at the earliest opportunity. The students should collect the receipt, investigation record and health treatment recommendation from the doctor at the hospital where they are admitted, in order to proceed with reimbursement.

The students can search for information from textbooks and Journals at the Libraries of Mahidol University including Library of the Ratchawithi Campus, Library of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Library of the Faculty of Sciences and Library of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
At the library of the Ratchawithi Campus, there are approximately 1,000 English textbooks of medicine and public health, 139 English journals and 15,000 theses available.
In addition, the Information Technology Unit also provides searching information service from various electronic resources.
Resignation
If a student wishes to resign from the course entirely, this can be done by requesting a for permission from the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate studies, through the Program Director and Assistant Dean for Education. Please contact the School Office for further information.
End of Student Status Student status will be ended according to the following conditions:
1) completion of the requirements of the program for graduation. 2) resignation from the program with approval from the University President. 3) with the President’s approval, a student’s status can end under any of the
following conditions: 3.1 Students are Provisional or Trial Students as mentioned and cannot change their status to Regular Students. 3.2 Students obtain a cumulative GPA of less than 2.50 in two consecutive semesters. 3.3 Students do not complete the program within the maximum duration specified. 3.4 Students do not register and/or do not pay the tuition fees within the period specified for registration. 3.5 Students do not follow the conditions specified for study absence. 3.6 Students commit examination fraud. 3.7 Students commit academic fraud on their thesis or thematic paper. 3.8 Death.

Extension of study duration
A study period can be extended for another year. However, students are requested to pay the University fees every semester. If the students fail to complete the program after two-semester extensions, they must resign from the program.

A student must earn B grade or higher in any core or required courses and C grade or higher in the elective courses. In case that a student earns any grades lower than B in a core or required course, the student must repeat that course with B grade and cannot receive other grades higher than B. If a student earns a grade lower than C for an elective course, the student can repeat the course or take a different course, but cannot earn a grade higher than B in either the repeated or different course.
1.2 “F” grade is given according to the following conditions:
1.2.1 The evaluation of student performance shows “Fail”.
1.2.2 Student is absent from the examination without the permission of the instructor, the D.T.M. & H. Program Director and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
1.2.3 Student is not permitted to take examinations, as explained in 1.2.2
1.2.4 Student does not follow the examination regulations.
1.2.5 When the “I” (Incomplete) grade, which requires the student to sit for an extra examination or perform extra assignment, would not be fulfilled, the “F” will be given in place of “I”.
1.3 “S” (Satisfactory) or “U” (Unsatisfactory), grades have no point value.
1.4 The “I” grade is assigned to students in the following cases:
1.4.1 Student does not attend the final examination or does not complete the assigned work due to illness with a submission of a medical report. Student’s attendance must be at least 80%.
1.4.2 When the student does not attend the final examination due to an emergency or does not complete the course assignments, an “I” can be given with the recommendation of the instructor and the Program Director.
1.4.3 The instructor and the Program Director are in agreement to postpone evaluation.
1.4.4 Students cannot have an I grade for more than two coursework subjects, except in the case of 1.4.5.1
1.4.5 When the “I” grade is given to a student, the following provisions must also be specified by instructors:
1.4.5.1 Student is assigned to sit for the reexamination or submit additional assignments within one month after the regular examination result is announced (I1).
1.4.5.2 Student is assigned to do extra work for the next semester(I2).

14.5.3 A student must retake the same subject whenever that subject is offered (I3).
1.4.6 To change an “I” grade, students shall either: 1.4.6.1 Retake the examination of that particular course and/or
complete the assigned work of the course within one month after the regular examination result is announced.
1.4.6.2 Complete the assigned work of the course and retake the new evaluation within the next academic semester.
1.4.6.3 Repeat that particular course as soon as it is offered.
1.5 “W” (Withdrawal) is assigned to students in the following cases:
1.5.1 Withdrawal can be done after the second week of each regular semester or after the first week of summer session until the week before the final examination of that course. A “W” will appear on the student’s transcript for that course.
1.5.2 The student’s request for an absence is approved.
1.5.3 The student is penalized and banned from the study.
1.6 “AU” (Audit) is assigned when students request to sit in the course with no intention to earn credit. Students are expected to have a minimum of 80 percent class attendance. Students who have less than that will receive “U” (Unsatisfactory).
1.7 “X” (No report from the instructor) is assigned when the course report has not yet been completed at the specified due date.
2. Penalty for Examination Fraud
Any form of academic dishonesty will usually lead to one or a combination of the following:
2.1 An F for that course.
2.2 An F for all courses registered in that academic semester.
2.3 Ineligibility to enroll in the next regular semester.
The President of Mahidol University is authorized to suspend or expel a student from any program and he/she has no right to attend any other programs of Mahidol University.

Requirements for Graduation
Requirements for Graduation
(1) complete full-time study (2) complete all required courses and obtain a grading record satisfying the
requirements of the DTM&H program (3) fulfill the program requirements with a GPA of at least 3.00 (4) pass the English Proficiency Examination set by the Faculty of Graduate
Studies (5) meet the other special requirements of the particular program approved by
the Faculty of Graduate Studies e.g. soft skill requirement. (6) graduation day is the same day that the students’ requirements meet all
conditions (1) to (5) (7) the Program Director submits the request for graduation to the Faculty of
Graduate Studies Evaluation of a student’s achievement in required courses
The students have to attend at least 80% of the class to qualify for the examinations, an exemption may be considered by the Program Committee.

Student’s Performance Evaluation
Grades are given based on score of group-based evaluation
Re-examination Policy for Core Courses
Re-examination may be considered by the Program committee. However, re-examination is not allowed for any student who fails more than 3 core subjects.
As a result, he/she will get the Certificate of Attendance* issued by the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, not the ‘Diploma’ which would be granted by Mahidol University Council. The certificate will be granted to those with at least 80% attendant.

D.T.M. & H. COURSE PROCESS
Successfully pass English proficiency test from an acceptable
institute/(s).
Complete course requirements: Core courses 20 credits (4 months from April–July)
and Elective courses: at least 4 credits (2 months from August–September)
Complete field training in Chonburi Hospital (May), Pre–clinical in Suangpung, Ratchaburi (July),
Epidemiology in Suangpung, Ratchaburi (July) and Clinical in Ubon Ratchathani (July)
The student must achieve at least B grade in each of the core courses
and earn an overall GPA of at least 3.00
The Program Director will request the Diploma for the student by filling out Form GR. 5 and submitting it to the Faculty of Graduate
Studies.
