    PurposeThe dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoidsafety hazards, teach respect for authority, and prepare student for the world of work.

    Dress code will change when necessary to address any problems which might occur related to dresscode enforcement. The Student Code of Conduct does not allow students to wear clothing that isoversized. The baggy and oversized look is not an appropriate style for school.

    Standards for StudentsStudents will be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health orsafety hazard to themselves or others. This District prohibits any clothing or grooming that, in theprincipal's judgment, may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normalschool operations.

    The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing that are lewd, offensive, vulgar orobscene. Any clothing that advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or anyother substance prohibited under local policy.

    The student and parent may determine the student's personal dress and grooming standards, providedthat they comply with the general guidelines set out above and the Districts dress code for students in thestudent handbook and/or discipline plan.

    Student Dress, Safety, and Appearance

    Any apparel or unusual accessory that detracts from school decorum is not acceptable as appropriatedress suitable to the occasion.

    Safety, cleanliness, neatness and good taste are the standards by which the school judgesappropriate dress.

    All students are expected to dress in a manner appropriate for school. Wearing apparel that distractsfrom the classroom atmosphere will be considered inappropriate.

    Clothing must be neat, clean, and presentable at school.Al l clothes must f it appropr iately.

    Clothing that bares the midriff or reveals undergarments are inappropriate.

    Any footwear that is determined to be a safety hazard is prohibited. Open toe and open back shoesare not permitted for safety reasons.

    Clothing Guidelines and Expectations The nude look, see-through blouses, and revealing fashions without appropriate concealing

    undergarments are prohibited.

    Low-cut sundresses are inappropriate.

    Blouses that look like undergarments called camisoles.

    Walking shorts or skorts are appropriate dress as long as the following are observed:o Dresses, shorts and skirts must be no more than 3 inches above the knee. Measurement will begin from the

    top of the knee.o Spandex, elastic or stretch type shorts are not allowed.o Cut-off shorts are not allowed.o Note: The principal may suspend the wearing of walking shorts or any clothing apparel to school that is

    deemed inappropriate and warrants such action.

    All clothing must have finished hems and be free of rips, holes, frayed edges, or tears.

    Overalls with suspenders are permissible, provided that suspenders and bibs are worn appropriately with strapsover both shoulders with a shirt.

    Loose fitting clothing is unacceptable and a safety hazard. Please follow these guidelines:o Oversized baggy pants or shorts are not permitted. Clothing must fit so that the trousers and

    shorts remain at the waist when standing erect, walking or running. If they fall below the waistthey do not fit.

    o Any oversized tops such as a shirt, a jacket, hoodie, sweatshirt or vest are not acceptable.o Sags are unacceptable and prohibited.

    Any and all tank tops are not acceptable without an undershirt.

    Clothing that contains features identified as "gang-related," violent, satanic, ritualistic, macabre, orsadistic shall not be permitted. This includes but is not limited to:o Eight ball emblems;o Names denoting any known gangs or gang signs;o Flags and or works which are racial or could be construed to be racial;o Words and symbols which are related to cruising features, homie shirts, Joker characters, Drama

    faces, etc.;o Rosary beads should not be worn;o Necklaces and/or bracelets, with or without any type of vial that contains liquid or with know gang

    colors or symbols are not allowed.

    All students must wear shirts tucked in while on campus or school related activities. Pant pockets andwaistbands must be visible at all times.

    Athletic apparel including shorts, warm-ups, pants, jerseys, and wind suits may not be worn oncampus with the exception of physical education or athletic classes as appropriate.

    Jackets are permitted only during cold weather.

    Hair StylesStudents must be neat and well groomed at all times. Students must avoid hairstyles that distract ordetract within the school environment. They cannot reflect the influence of exhibitionists and grotesquehairdos. The following are guidelines for student hairstyles:

    Inappropriate hairstyles that the administration believes are a distraction to the learning environment areprohibited. Inappropriate hair styles include, but are not limited to: mohawks, spiked hair, excessively bushy hair,shaved names/symbols on the scalp, unnatural hair colors or shaved eyebrows.

    Hair "tails" of any kinds or patches of hair are not allowed.

    The length of a boy's hair shall be no longer than the top of the shoulder.

    Hair must not cover student's eyes.

    Beards are not allowed.

    Mustaches must be well groomed.

    Students must keep their hair well groomed.

    Clothing, Shoes, and Clothing Accessories Footwear not intended for use out of the home is prohibited. In addition, any footwear that

    administrators deem inappropriate or a possible safety hazard to students while attending school isprohibited.

    Hats or caps of any kind or bandanas of any shape, size or color, are not allowed on campus.

    Boys are not allowed to wear earrings of any kind.

    Ear spacers are prohibited.

    All students (girls and boys) are not allowed to display any visible body piercing or extensive tattoos.Body piercings include but are not limited to nose rings, tongue rings, eyebrow rings, etc.

    Miscellaneous Walkmans, radios or any other electronic device of any kind will not be allowed on campus. (See also

    "Non-Instructional Items".)

    Chains will not be allowed to hold wallets or other items.

    Sunglasses are not permitted inside of school buildings or classrooms.

    Backpacks must be clear or mesh.

    Students are not permitted to possess or use laser pointers while on school property or whileattending school-sponsored or school-related activities, whether on or off school property. Laser

    pointers will be confiscated and students will be disciplined according to the Student Code ofConduct.

    Students are not permitted to possess any aerosol products.

    Grooming In Extra-Curricular ActivitiesGrooming and/or dress for students representing the school or participating in extra-curricular activitieswill be governed by written rules set forth for each group or category by the coaching staff or sponsors ofthe activity subject to the approval of the principal.

    Penalty for ViolationAny student who fails to comply with the standards listed above shall be asked to comply with the dresscode and make any correction necessary to meet the expected standard. Any disregard of theseregulations will result in disciplinary action until compliance is achieved. Continued disregard of the dresscode will result in suspension and or placement in an alternative education program. Classes missedwhile a student is correcting dress and grooming will be considered unexcused absences.
