1ChapterPREFACE

ImamSadiq(pbuh)isagreatacademicpersonalitywhichthehumanhistoryhascometoknow.Hehas advanced this great colossal (amount) of constructive and effectual contributions, in theinterest of service to humanity and the building of civilization. Such as, and indeed he has[contributedto],betteringofftheIslamicintellectbymeansofwhathepropogatedofthekindsofsciencesfulloffundamentalsoflife.Andinadditiontothat,thebrilliantintellectualtreasures,andthatwhichisconsideredtobethepillaroftheacademicrevivaltohisera.SotheImam(pbuh)hasleft for us a collection of the visions transmitted from him regarding his interpretations ofdreams.Sothatthereis[abook]byImamSadiq(pbuh)ofDreamInterpretationsspecificallybyhim,thatiscirculatingamongthepeopleandtoanearbyage.And the reality is that abook specific for this subjectwasnotprovidedby the Imam (pbuh).

Rather it was upon our gathering of visions ascribed to the Imam, we discovered a largecollectionfromthesevisionsinthebook(Ta’ateerAlAnam)byNablusi,andofwhichtheauthorbacking[thechainofnarrations]isImamJa’aferAlSadiqisfromabookascribedtohimcalled(Biltaqseem(By Distribution)). And the author cites in his book: (And I have accredited)concerningthatupontheforemostbooksandtherespectedSheikhs’viewssuchas:EssentialsbyDanielAlHakeem,andthebooktheDistributionbyJa’aferAlSadiq,andthebooktheCompilersbyMuhammedbinSeereen.AndwecherishthereaderwhenweplacebeforeyouthisbookthatweaskourMaster,Praise

andGlory toHim, to grant the good ofHis acceptance.And lastly our supplication is that allpraiseisduetoAllah,Lordoftheworlds.

2ChapterETHICSOFSLEEP

MentionedfromImamAlSadiq(pbuh)isseveralofethicsandacceptablepracticeswhichhaveagreatsignificanceintheworldofvisions.Aswellas[having]alargeimpactinthevalidityofthevision’sexpression.And[theyhavea largeimpact in]denialingthe tremorsofdemonicwhisperings.Fromtheseacceptablepractisesandethicsare:1.Regardingtheself: Indeedcited fromhim(pbuh) is thathehadsaid in the following: (When

middayarrivedhesaid[tome]:“OIbnAdam,workgoodinyourday,ItestifyofitforyounearyourLordattheDayofJudgement.ThusIhavenotcometoyouinwhathaspassed,norwillIcometoyouinwhatremains”.Andwhenthenightarrived,hesaidthesameasthat)(1).2.Teethcleaning: (if thepeopleknewwhat[benefit] is inthetooth-cleanser, theywouldlodgeit

overnightintheirbedcovers).3.Ablution(Wudhu’):(Whoeverperformsablutionthenretiresinhisbed,hespendsthenight

withhisbedashismosque) (2).Similar towas transmitted fromhim (pbuh) in thathe said: (If apersonwanted to see a truthful vision, whatever is on his conscience is shown to him [if] hesleepsinthestateofablution,onhisrightsideandheremembersAllah)(3).4.TheDu’aawhenlyingdown:Sowhoeversaysthreetimeswhengettingintohisbed(Allpraise

deadens the livingandHehaspowerover everything,He takesout from the sins in the samemannerofthedaytheoriginatorgaverisetoit)(1).AnotherDu’aa:Ifyouretireinyourbed,thenliedownonyourrightside,andsay:(Inthename

ofAllah,andbyAllah,andforthesakeofAllah,anduponthecreedoftheMessengerofAllah,OAllahIhavesubmittedmyselftoYou,andturnedmyfacetoYou,andhaveentrustedmyaffairtoYou,andhaveshelteredmybackwishinglytoYou,ofawetoYou,thereisnoshelternorrescuerfromYouexcept[returning]toYou,andhavesubmittedmyselftoYou,OAllahIhavebelievedineverybookYouhavesentdown,andineverymessengerYouhavedispatched)(2).5.RecitingtheQuran:he(pbuh)said:(thereisnoservantthatrecites[surat]AlKahfwhengoing

tosleepexceptthathewakesupinthehourwhichhewants[towakeupin])(3).

6.Seekingrefugetorepelwetdreams:Ofwhatwasmentionedfromhim(pbuh)isthathesaid:

Whoeverfeared[goingintothestateof]Janaba(sexualimpurity), thenheshouldsayinhisbed:(OAllahIseekrefugeinYoufromwetdreams,andfromtheassociationofdreams,andfromtheDevilmanipulatingmeduringwakefulnessandsleep),afterwardsheshouldrecitetheAll-Mighty’ssaying:{Say:WhocanprotectyouinthenightandinthedayfromtheAll-Merciful?}(4).Afterwardsheshouldrecitethelast[2verses]of[surat]BaniIsrael:{Say:InvokeAllahorinvoke

theAllMerciful,whicheveryouinvokeHim(itisthesame),thenforHimisthebestnames,anddonotannounceyoursalatnorloweryourvoiceinitbutfollowawaybetweenthose,andsay:allpraise isforAllahwhohasnottakenacompanion,norachild,andthereisnopartnerforHim in the dominion, and there is no helper for Him from lowness, andmagnify Himwith amagnification(takbeera)}(5).(Note:thisissuratisraa’)(1)thepreviousreference,page41.(2)thepreviousreference,page42.(3)thepreviousreference,page43.(4)SuratAlAnbiya’(theProphets),verse42.(5)Languageoftherespectedshia,page57.7.Seekingrefugetobesecurefromfallingoutofcovers:he(pbuh)said:(Whoeverwritessurat

Muhammedandhangsitonhimselfwillbesecureinhissleepandhisawakeness)(1).8.Dispraiseof the increaseofsleepand itsreason:he (pbuh)said: (indeedAllah(theMighty

andMajestic)dislikesmuchofsleep,andmuchofsparetime)(2).Andmentioned fromhim (pbuh) is that he said:Muchof sleep is gilded to the religion and the

dunya(3).Andfromhis(pbuh)recommendationstotheservantofAllahIbnJandib:“OIbnJandib,lessenthe

sleepinthenighttime,andthewordsinthedaytime,hencethereisnothinglessthankfulinthebodythan the eye and the tongue. Verily Um Suleiman said to Suleiman: “Omy son beware of sleep,becauseitimpoverishesyouoftimewhichpeopleneedfortheirwork”.OIbnJandibverilytheDevilhastrapsbywhichheentrapssoguardagainsthisnetsandhistraps(4).”Then[Ibn]Jandibsaid:“Osonof theMessengerofAllah,andwhatare they?”He replied:“As forhis traps then it is turningawayfrombeingkindtothe(muslim)brothers..AsforhisnetsthenitissleepingawayfromcarryingoutprayerwhichAllahhasobligated.AsforhimnotworshippingAllah,itisintheexampleofthemovingoffeetuntilthegroundofthe(muslim)brothersandvisitingthem.Woetotheabsentmindedonesregardingtheprayers,thesleepingonesinmockingidlenessatAllahandHissignsinudders,thosearetheoneswhoarenotworthyofbeinginthehereafter,norwillAllahspeaktothemontheDayofJudgement,norwillHeclearthemandforthemisapainfulpunishment(5).And in another narration he (pbuh) says: (There is noworshipper but that he awakens in every

nightonceor twiceorfrequently,soifheriseshewillbeashewas,otherwise[ifhegoesbacktosleep]theDevilwillpayhimapilgrimageandthenurinateinhisears,ordoesnotoneofyouseethatifherisesheisnotthesameastheonewhodoesnotriseandisthickened(6)heavyandsluggish(7).

platform/pulpitandtaughttheAngelstheNames,he(pbuh)said:(AdamdescendedfromhisplatformandAllah increased his good-doing inmultiplesmore thanwhat he had fromgood and grace, sowhenhecamedownHebroughtnearhimpickedfruitofwhitegrapes.HeateitanditwasthefirstthingheatefromthefoodofHeaven.Whenhehadtakenithesaid:“AllpraiseisforAllahtheLordoftheWorlds”.AllahtheAll-Mightysaid:(OAdamitisforthisIcreatedyouanditistheSunnaofyourProphettowardthelastera).Subsequentlyslumberovertookhimi.e.sleepinessbecauseitistheoriginsofsleep.Forthereisnorestforabodythateatsexceptsleep.TheAngelspanickedandsaid:“Sleepisdeath!”SowhenSatanheard,mayAllahcursehim,thatAdam(pbuh)hadeatenhebecamejoyfulandtookcomfortofwhatwasinit,andhesaid:“Ishalltempthim”)(2).(1)thepreviousreference,page34.(2)thepreviousreference,page34,35.

3ChapterTHEVISION'STRUTH/VERITYANDIT'SSEGMENTS

IntheImam’s(pbuh)definitionofthevisionhesays:(Verilyifthebelieverstooktotheirbeds,AllahraisestheirsoulstowardHim.SowhoeverHeordaineddeathfor,AllahpositionshimintheGardensofHeavenbytheLightofHisMercyandtheLightofHisGlory.AndifHedidnotordainuponhimdeathHe sends them (the souls) in the companyofHis trustedones from theAngels [back] to thebodiesinwhichtheywerein(1).AlsotheImam(pbuh)wasquestionedaboutthetruthofthevision:(Thebelieverseesthevision,

thenit[couldbe]ashesaw,butperhapsheseesavision,butitmeansnothing?”Sohe(pbuh)replied:“Verilyifthebelieverrested,outstretched/elongatedactivityemergesfromhissoultotheHeaven.Sowhatever the believer ’s soul sees in theKingdomofHeaven about amatter of preordainment andplanningthenitisthetruth..Andwhateveritseesregardingtheearththenitisaconfuseddream.”–then the questioner said: “Does the believer ’s soul ascend into the heaven[i.e. completely]?” So he(pbuh)replied:“No.Ifallofitemergeduntilnothingremainsfromitthenhe(theperson)hasdied”.Soheasked:“Sohowdoesitemerge?”Sohe(pbuh)said:“Asforyouseeingthesunintheskywithitslocation,itsillumination,anditsraysattheearth;thenlikewisethesoul’soriginisinthebodyanditsmovementisoutstretched/elongated”)(2).AlsoAbuBaseer askedAbuAbdullah (pbuh): (The sleepingman here, and the sleepingwoman

bothseevisions.Further,theyareatMeccaandatEgyptofregions[respectively],[soare]theirsoulsoutsideoftheirbodies?”Hesaid:“No,OAbuBaseer,soindeedifthesoulseparatedfromthebodythenitwillnotreturntoit.Yetitisata[similar]standingtotheSun’seyewhichiscentralisedinthesky’scenter,whileitsraysareintheworld/dunya.”)(1).[i.e. thesoul iscentralisedinthebodyandstretchesoutwards](1)DarAlSalam/AlTabrisi/vol4,page241.(2)Thepreviousreference,pages243,244.He (pbuh) also said: (ByAllah there is no servant from our followers(shia) that sleepswithout

Allahraisinghissoultowardtheheavenandthenblessingit(thesoul).SoifitstermhasalreadybeencompletedHeplaces it in the treasuresofHisMercy,and in theGardensofHisHeavenand in theshadeofHisThrone.Andifitsdeathwaslater,HesendsitwithoneofHistrustedfromtheAngelstoreturnittothebodywhichitemergedfromsothatitresides[back]init)(2).RegionsoftheVision:he(pbuh)said:(Thevisionhasthreesides/facets:goodnewsfromAllahto

thebeliever,anexhortationfromthedevil,andconfuseddreams)(3).Asforthevisionofthebelieverthenhesays:(Iftheworshipperwaspursuanttoasin/wrongdoing

[to]Allah(PraiseandGlorybetoHim),andAllahwantsforhimgood(then)Heshowshiminhis

sleep avisionwhich scareshim sohe is deterred away from the sinby it.And indeed the truthfulvisionisaseventiethpartofprophethood)(4).ThedifferencebetweenthetruthfulandthelyingvisionHe (pbuh) said: (The truthful and the lying vision have one gate/exit.Meaning the heart. So the

inconsistent lyingvision is theonewhich isseenby theperson in thebeginning(part)ofhisnightfromthedisobedientdissoluteauthority.Andmoreoveritissomethingthatbefriendstheperson,anditisinconsistentandlyingandthereisnogoodinit.Asforthetruthfulone,ifheseesit(thevision)afterthetwothirdsofthenight[whichis]withtheadventoftheangels,andthatisbeforeSahar(earlydawn–smallperiodbeforefajr)thenitwillbeatruthfulconsistentvisionunlesshewasinthestateofsexualimpurity(janaba)orhesleepsinanunpurifiedmanner,andthathedidn’trememberAllahtheAllMighty,then[insuch]itwoulddifferandlingeragainstitsowner(1).(1)DarAlSalam/AlTabrisi/vol4page244.(2)thepreviousreference,vol3,page241.(3)BalghaAlShia/‘AsfurMushsin/page124.(4)BiharAlAnwar/AlMajlisi/vol61,page167.He (pbuh) said: (Verily Satan has an assistant that he dismisses when the night arrives for the

Muffadel, how is thematter administeredwithin dreams, thus their truthful (dream) stands out.Bytheirlying(dream),thusifthey(thedreams)werealltruthful(then)trulyallpeoplewouldhavebeenprophets,andiftheywerealllying(then)therewouldnothavebeenanybenefitinthem,rathertheywouldhavebeen favorswithout ameaning, thus theybecame truthfulonlyoccasionally so that bythempeoplecanbenefitinausethatguidesbecauseofthem,oraharmthatcautionsfromthem,and(thedreams)liefrequentlyinorderthatonedoesnotdependonthemwithcompletedependency(3).Alsoinhis(pbuh)explanation(tafseer)tothenobleverse:{Indeedsecretconversationisfromthe

devilinordertoaggrievethosethatbelieve}(4)he(pbuh)said:(ThereasonforbringingdownthisversewasthatFatima(pbuh)sawinhersleepthattheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf)wasworriedthathe, Fatima, Ali, Hassan, Hussein (pbut) would need to leave Medina. So they travelled until theycrossedoneof thewallsofMedina.Then theywere facedwith twoways.TheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf) took the right-sidedoneuntil he led them toa locationwhichhaddatepalmsandwater.ThentheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf)reachedafemalesheepofgreatsize,andoneofitsearswascompletelywhite so he commanded to sacrifice it.When theywere eating they (suddenly) died intheir place. Fatima (pbuh)woke up in terror. She [decided] not to inform theMessenger ofAllah(pbuhahf) of that (vision). (4)SuratAlMujadala(thedebate),verse10.Medina[together];justasFatima(pbuh)hadseeninhersleep.Whentheyleftthroughthewallsof

Medina, they faced twoways. TheMessenger ofAllah (pbuhahf) took the right-sided one, just asFatima(pbuh)saw(inherdream),untiltheyreachedalocationwhichhaddatepalmsandwater.ThentheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf)purchasedafemalesheepofgreatsize,justasFatima(pbuh)hadenvisioned.Thenhecommanded tosacrifice it, so itwasslaughtered,and roasted.Thenwhen theywantedtoeatit,Fatima(pbuh)stoodupandshegaveup,mournfulforthem,cryinginfearthattheydie. Then theMessenger of Allah (pbuhahf) requested to find out why she is crying with saying:“WhatisyourconcernOmydaughter”.Shesaid:“OMessengerofAllahIsawsuchandsuchinmysleep,andyouhaveactedlikewhatIsaw[inthedream].ThusIabandonedyousothatIdonotseeyouall dying”. So theMessenger ofAllah (pbuhahf) stood up and called out to the devil by saying tohim: “Didyou showFatima this vision?”He replied: “Yes,OMuhammed”, then theMessengerofAllah spat on him three spits, thus he fractured him in three locations. Then Jibrael said toMuhammed: “SayOMuhammed, if you see in your sleep a thing that youhate, or (if) one of thebelieverssees(such),thenthepersonshouldsay:“IseekrefugewithWhomwassoughtrefugeofbyAllah’sCloseAngels,HissentProphetsandHisrighteousservantsfromtheevilofwhatIsaw,and(Iseek refuge) frommy vision” and to recite Alhamd (Surat Fatiha) andAlMu’adtien, and {sayHeAllahisOne}(SuratIkhlas),andtospitonyourrightsidethreespits,thenindeedwhathesawwillnot hurt him”. And (then) Allah descended (the verse) upon His Messenger: {Indeed secretconversationisfromthedevil}(1).(1)BiharAlAnwar,vol61,page188,?.

4ChapterWHATSHOULDBEDONETOSEEWHATISDESIREDTOBESEEN(INTHEVISION)

1.OfwhatwasmentionedfromtheImam(pbuh)aboutwhoeverwantedtoseetheNoblestProphet(pbuhahf) is thathesaid: (Whoeverpersistently recitedSuratAlMazmalsees theProphet (pbuhahf)andaskshimwhateverhewants,andAllahgiveshimwhateverhewantsofblessings).Andfromhim(pbuh) isanarration in thathesaid: (Whoever recitedSuratAlQadrafter themiddayprayer (SalatAlZowal),andbeforeDhuhrtwentyonetimeshewillnotdietillheseestheProphet(pbuhahf))(1).2.Alsoinanothernarrationhesaid:(Whoeverawaits/expectssomeonethatiscomingtohimand

wants toknowhisnews thenheshouldwrite these lettersonhispalmand [then]go to sleep.Thusindeed some of the souls/spirits will come to him, then all of what he asked about him will beanswered. [The Letters are:] In the name of Allah bihat, hat, fahat, lehat, lahat (cant translatethese))(2).3.Andinanarration[relating]toFatimathedaughterofAbdullahbinIbrahimbinAlHassanwho

said: When AlDuwaneeq killed Abdullah bin AlHassan, after having killed his filial [relatives]MuhammedandIbrahim,hetookmysonDawoodbinAlHassanfromMedinatoIraq,shacklinghiminironwithhisuncle’ssonAlHussein.Thenhe(herson)becamefarawayfrommeforaperiodoftime,andovertherehewasimprisoned,thusnewsofhimwascutoff[fromme].IwasbaffledofhistraceandwassupplicatingtoAllahandbeseechingHim,andrequestingofHimforhisdeliveranceandaskingforhelpfrommybrothersoftheasceticandthepeople,andthepeopleofancestry?,and[thepeopleof]jurisprudence.IaskedthemtosupplicatetoAllahformetobereunitedwithmysonbeforemydeath.Theydid[suchofsupplications]andtheydidnotneglectin[doing]that.(1)BalghAlshiaAKaraam,page197.(2)Ibid,pages213,214.Andheusedtocommunicatethathehaskilled?,andthefolksay:“nodescedantshaverecordsof

himwithhisuncle’sdescendants”.Thusmytroubleincreasedandmygriefintensified.Ididnotseearesponsetomysupplicationnor[asolution]arisingtomyproblem.SoIbecamepowerlesstherewith.I grew in age.Andmy bones became thin. I came to the border of despair from [seeing]my sonbecauseofmyweaknessandmyelapsingage.She (UmDawood) continued: Then I came to Abi Abdullah Ja’afer binMuhammed (pbuh). So

whenIaskedhimhowhewasdoingandpromptedhimthatIintendedtoleave,hesaidtome:“OUmDawood, who is it that has informed you about Dawood?While you had breast-feed Ja’afer binMuhammed[together]withhismilk?”ThuswhenhementionedhimtomeIcriedthensaid:“MayIbeyour ransom,where isDawood?Dawoodwas imprisoned in Iraq,andhisnewshadbeencutoff. IhavelosthopeofmeetinghimwhileIamtrulyintenselylongingforhimandanxiousabouthim.I

requestofyoutoprayforhimbecauseheisyourbrotherfromnursing.”ThenAbuAbdullah(pbuh)said to me: : “O Um Dawood, so where are you from [supplicating] the Supplication(Dua’a) ofOpening,Reponse,andProsperity?ThisDua’aistheonewithwhichAllah(theMightyandMajestic)opensthedoorsoftheheavenforthesupplicator.TheAngelsobtainandbringhimthegoodnewsofaresponse.AnditistheAnsweredSupplicationwhichdoesnotcomebetweenAllah(theMightyandMajestic)anditsowner(thesupplicator)asarecompensewithoutParadise.She (Um Dawood) continued: I said: “And how is it for me [to know], O son of the Truthful

Purified Ones?” He said: “O Um Dawood, indeed this Haram month has approached [and thesupplication]requiresthemonthofRajab(lunarcalendarmonth).It isacelebrated,grandandholymonthinwhichasupplicationisheard.Thus,praythethreedays13th,14thand15thfromRajab,asthesearetheWhiteDays.Thenwashyourself(Ghusul)at themiddledayofthem,atmiddayofthesun.Thenprayeightrak’aatsatmidday;forwardingwithinthemwell-donebowings,prostrationsandQunuts.InthefirstRak’aareciteFatihaofthebook(i.e.SuratFatiha),and{Say:OYouDisbelievers}(SuratKafiroon). In the eighth recite {Say:He isAllah,One} (Surat Ikhlas). In the remaining six(rak’aats)recitewhatyoulikefromtheshortsuras.Next,prayDhuhr.Thenbow[again]afterDhuhr[another] eight bowings(rak'aats) with the bowings, prostrations and qunuts done well. Let yourprayersbeinyourcleanerclothesinaspotlesshouseanduseperfume.IndeedtheAngelslovethat[i.e.suchconditions]Andtryhardto[makesurethat]noonecomestoyoutotalktoyouoroccupyyou.Thenwhenyou

finishfromtheSupplication,prostrateunto theearthandcoveryourcheekswithdustandsay:“ToYouIhaveprostratedandinYouIhavebelieved.Sohavemercyonmylowliness,myneedinessandmymissteps[whichis] tomydirection.”Andtryhardtomakeyoureyesflowtearsevenif it’s theamountofahousefly’shead.BecauseasignofaresponsetothisSupplicationis thesorrowoftheheartandthesheddingofa teardrop.Afterwards,beawarethat[thematter]willemergefromyourhand/control and into someone else’s hand; [someone]who calls for other than the truth for him.ThusitisanhonourableSupplication.ItcontainsthegreatestNameofAllahwhich,ifsupplicatedby,Allahwillanswer[thesupplicator]andgivehim[whathewants];eveniftheheavensandearthwerepatched[together]withouttheoceansentirely.And[if]allofsuchwasbetweenyouandyourwantedneed,thencertainlyAllah(theMightyandMajestic)willeasethearrivalofwhatyoudesire.Andwillgiveyouyour request,meetyourneedandcauseyou toattainyourhopes;aswellas toeachwhosupplicatetoAllMightyAllahbythisSupplicationofResponsewhethermaleorfemale.EveniftheJinnandMankindwereenemiestoyourson,certainlyAllahsufficesyou[from]theirsupplies;andsilencestheirtonguesfromyou.Andthatyouwouldhavetheirnecks,ifAllahtheAllMightywills.”UmDawood continues: Thus hewrote this Supplication forme and Iwaited atmy home.Then

came the month of Rajab, and I had in my mind the days [of the Supplication]. So I fasted andsupplicatedinthemjustasheinstructedme.AndI[also]prayedtheMaghreb,‘Ishaandtherestwhilebeingdevoted.Afterwards,Iprayedthroughthenight[foraslongas]whatwaspossibleforme.Thensettledforthenight,andsawinmysleepallofwhomIPrayedfor-fromtheAngels,theProphets,theTestifiers,theIbdaalsandtheworshippers.IalsosawtheProphet(pbuhahf).AndBehold,hesaidtome:“Owoman,OUmDawood,Rejoice!Forallofwhomyouseefromyourhelpersandbrothersand sisters are seeking foryour forgiveness andbringyougoodnewsof the successof [gaining]your need thing. Rejoice in the pardon and satisfaction of Allah for you have profited well foryourself.RejoicealsothatAllahhasprotectedyourson,andwillreturnhimtoyouifAllahsowills.

UmDawoodcontinued: I thenwokeupfrommysleep.ByAllah, Ididnot remainstillafter thatexceptforthedistanceofthecourse[thatItook]fromthediligenthurriedridertoIraq,tillDawoodwasshowntome.Thushesaid:“Omymother, IhavebeenimprisonedinIraq in thenarrowestofcells.AndtheweightofIronwasuponme.Iwasinthestateofdespairfrombeingfreed.Andsuddenly

whenIwenttosleepinthenightofthemiddledayofRajab,IsawtheearthhadbeenscaleddownformetillIsawyourprayermat.Andarounditweremenwiththeirheadsintheskyandtheirlegsontheground. They had green robes/clothing and were Glorifying [Allah] around you. Then a speakerspoke.IbelievehehadthefacecharacteristicoftheProphet(pbuhahf),spotlessinclothing,pleasantinsmellandgoodinwords.[hesaid]:“OSonoftherighteousElderlyWoman,rejoice!ForindeedAllah(theMightyandMajestic)hasansweredyourmother ’sSupplication.”Iwokeup,andBehold,IwaswithAbiAlDawaneeq’smessenger.ThusIwasadmittedtohimoutofthenight.Hethenorderedfor the detachment of my iron and [for others] to be kind towards me. He also ordered 10,000dirhamsbegiventome,thatIbeheld[onrecord]asbeingofnobledescentandformetostriveforthe hardest of courses. Then I hurried to enter Medina and proceeded to Abi Abdullah (pbuh).”Consequently he(Dawood - who was previously talking) greeted him(the Imam) and narrated hisstory.ThenAlSadiq(pbuh)saidtohim:“VerilyAbiAlDawaneeqsawAli(pbuh)inhissleeptellinghim:“ReleasemysonorelseIwillthrowyouintotheFire”.Healsosaw(inhisdream)asiftherewereflamesbeneathhisfeet.Hethenwokeup,wasatloss[towhathashappened]andreleasedyou.”(1).(1)DarAlSalam/AlTabrisi/vol1,page193-195.

1.FromAhmedbinAbiAbdullahAlTabrisi,fromhisfather,whosaid:IwasinformedbyonewhoheardJanaabbinSadeer,whosaid:“IsawtheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf)inwhatapersonusuallyseesduringsleep(avision).Hehadaplatecoveredwithanapkininhishands.Icameclosertohimandgreetedhim;sohegreetedmeback.Aftwards,heliftedthenapkinfromtheplate,revealingripedatesonit.Hethenbeganeatingfromit.SoIcameclosertohimandsaid:“OMessengerofAllah,passme a date.” So he passed one date tome. I ate it then said: “OMessenger ofAllah, passmeanother[one].”SohepassedittomeandIateit.ThuseverytimeIateone,Iaskedforanother.Untilhehadgivenme8dates.Aftereatingit(theeighthdate),Iaskedofhimanother.Consequentlyhesaid:“That[many]willsufficeyou.”ThenIwokeupfrommysleep.ThefollowingdayIwenttoJa’aferbinMuhammedAlSadiq(pbuh).Therewasaplatecoveredinanapkininhishands,liketheoneintheMessengerofAllah’shands(pbuhahf)thatIsawinmysleep.Igreetedhimandhegreetedmeback.Nextheuncoveredtheplateandtherewereripedatesonit.Hethenstartedeating.Iwasamazedbythat and said: “May I be your ransom, passme a date.” So he handedme [one] and I ate it. [Thiscontinued]untilhehadgivenmetheeightdates.AfterthatIrequestedanotherfromhim,buthesaidtome:“That[many]willsufficeyou.IfmyGrandfatherhadincreasedyou[indates],Iwouldhaveincreasedyou.”ThereuponIsaidtohim:“MayIbeyourransom”andinformedhimofthestory[ofmydream].Hesmiled,acquaintedwithwhathadhappened(1).(1)DarAlSalam/vol1,page311.2. concerning Abi Hassan (Musa bin Ja’afer) (pbuh), who said: He (Musa) mentioned that themaster(mawla)Ja’aferbinMuhammed(pbuh)isunquestionablymyauthority,andthatJa’afer(pbuh)hadsaidtohim:“Iwishforyoutobecomeattunedtothename/designation”.ThenheknewtheQuraninhissleepandwokeupwiththeknowledge.Hesaid:“MuhammedbinAlWalidisfromtheprogenyofauthority.”(1).3.FromIbinShahrAashoobconcerninghisdispatchedinvestigators/scholarsfromMa’atab,who

said:SomeonewasknockingonthedoorofmymasterAlSadiq(pbuh),soIopenthedooranditwasZaidbinAli(pbuh).AlSadiq(pbuh)saidtohisseatedcompanions:“You[may]enterthishouseandclosethedoorsbutletnotanyofyoutalk.”Sowhen[Zaid]camein,[AlSadiq(pbuh)]stoodupforhim.Theyembraced, satdownand talked [witheachother] fora long time.Then theconversationbetweenthembecameloud.ThusZaidsaid:“Nottomention,OJa’afer,byAllah,indeedifyoudidnotextendyourhand=[agestureperformedtoallowotherstopledgetheirallegiance],I[wouldstillhave]pledgedallegiance.Thenthisismyhand,sopledgeallegiancetome;sothatIcanappointyouandcommissionyoutowhatyoucannotbear.ThusyouhavelefttheStriving(Jihad).Andfrozenuntilthecovering/screenisloweredandloosened,andyou’reincludeduponthewealthoftheeastandthe

west?”AlSadiq (pbuh) replied:“MayAllahhavemercyonyouOuncle.MayAllah forgiveyouOuncle.” At hearing this, Zaid said: “Our appointment is in the morning, or is not the morningapproaching?” and hewent. Then the people talked aboutwhat just happened, so [AlSadiq (pbuh)]said:“hush) هص (,donotsayexceptgoodtomyuncleZaid.MayAllahhavemercyonmyuncle.Thusif he shows up, he would have honoured/fulfilled [his obligation/promise].” When it was earlymorning(Sahar),someoneknockedonthedoor;soIopenedthedoorforhim[Zaid].Heenteredandsaid, while sniffling and crying: “Havemercy onmeO Ja’afer, Allah has hadmercy on you. Bepleased/satisfied with me O Ja’afer, Allah is satisfied with you. Forgive me O Ja’afer, Allah hasforgivenyou.”AlSadiq(pbuh)replied:“Allahhasforgivenyou,andhashadmercyuponyou,andispleased with you. So what is your news, O Uncle?” [Zaid] said: “I went to sleep and saw theMessenger ofAllah (pbuhahf) preoccupied byme.On his rightwasAlHassan and on his leftwasAlHussein(pbut).Fatimawasbehindhim,whileAliwasinfrontofhim(pbut).Hehadaspear thatwasburstingintoflamesasthoughitwasfire.Hewassaying:“OZaid.YouhavehurttheMessengerofAllah(pbuhahf)regarding[yourconductwith]Ja’afer.___(1)DarAlSalam/AlTabrisi/page310&311.ByAllah,indeedifhehadnothadmercyonyou,forgivenyouandwaspleasedwithyou;Iwould

stabyouwith thisspear.ThusI trulywouldhavejabbeditbetweenyourshoulders,andtakenitoutthroughyourchestafterthat.”ThenIwokeup,alarmedandfrightened.ThenIcametoyou,sohavemercyonme.MayAllahhavemercyonyou.”[ImamAlSadiq(pbuh)]replied:“Allahispleasedwithyou, and forgives you. Entrustme [as your Imam], for verily you have been killed, crucified andburntinthefire.”ThusZaidentrustedhimwithhisfamilyandchildren,and[with]thecompletionofthereligionfromhim(1).4. FromAbiAbdMuhammed binAhmedAlDeelmiAlBasri, fromMuhammed binAbiKatheer

AlBasri,whosaid:Iusedtonotstartorendmyprayersexceptbycursingthetwo[worstcreatures].Then, I saw inmy sleep a bird that waswith a Toor (small jar) (2)made of gems. Inside it wassomething red resembling AlKhalooq*(3). So [the bird] descended toward the house thatencompasses theMessenger ofAllah (pbuhahf).Thenhe tookout two individuals from the grave,scented themwith thisKhalooqon theircheeksand thenreturned themboth to thegrave.Whilehewas ascendingback andwasnearme, I asked [that bird]: “Andwhat is thisKhalooq?”He replied:“ThisangelcomeseveryFriday[to]perfumethosetwo.”IwasannoyedatwhatIsaw[inmydream].ThenIwokeupnotperfumingmyselfby[first]cursingthetwo.SoIwenttoAlSadiq(pbuh).Whenhesawme, he laughed and said: “Did you see the bird?” I replied: “Yes,Omymaster (Sayyed)”He(pbuh)said:“Recite:{VerilySecretConversationisfromtheDevil inanefforttosaddenThosethatbelieve,anditisnotathingharmfultothemexceptbyAllah’spermission}.Ifyousee[inadream]somethingyouhate,reciteit.ByAllah,heisanAngeldelegatedwiththemtwoforanythingexcepthonoringthem.Rather,heisanAngeldelegatedwiththelightingandsunsetsoftheEarth.Ifsomeonekilledavictimwrongly,hetakeshisbloodbypickingitfromthenecksofthosetwo.Thatisbecausetheyarethecauseofallinjusticesincetheirexistence(4).(1)DarAlSalam/vol1,page311,312.(2)AlToor:Smalljar/container/vessel.(3)AlKhalooq:well-knownremedymadefromSafffronandotherpleasanttypes.Mostofitisred
