Great Student Work

The abandoned school

One dark, foggy afternoon two best friends were exploring anabandoned school. It had spider webs and spiders, it wascreepy and weird. Oliver who was sporty and rough askedScarlett who was pretty and fun if she wanted to go to theschool basement. Scarlett agreed, so off they ran.

They got to the basement, it was a flashing colour of limegreen. They heard banging coming from inside “should we goin?” whispered Scarlett. “Yes,” replied Oliver shaking! Scarlettopened the door and a man that wore a white lab coat andhad messy black hair and no pupils was standing there. “Areyou blind, and who are you?” screamed Oliver. But instead ofanswering the question, he started chasing the kids. Oliver andScarlett ran as fast as they could but the man kept chasingthem.

Finally, they got to the old principal’s office and so did the man.Suddenly the man started to laugh and reached to his face. Hepulled off the mask. It was Scarlett’s big brother Lincoln! “I gotyou!” he shouted. “Let’s go home,” pleaded Oliver. So off theyall went back home where it was safe.

What are we currently working on?

We have a goal to have air conditioning installed in allclassrooms.

Where are we up to with this project?

As you may be aware, B Block is now fully air conditioned. The P&C is now turning our focus to C Block. Installing airconditioning in school buildings is an expensive project dueto the extra regulatory and safety requirements (they need tobe kid-proof). Installing air conditioning in C Block has beenestimated to cost between $50 000 - $70 000. In additionto this, as installing air conditioning will result in a significantincrease in electricity costs, we are also fundraising to installa solar system, to help offset these costs. This has beenestimated to cost $30 000. With the total cost of the projectestimated at around $100 000, we want to keep the schoolinformed of our fundraising progress.

How can you help?

• Volunteering creates a resilient community

• Volunteers meet more people

• Volunteers gain professional experience

• Volunteering saves community resources

• Volunteers get to give something back

• Volunteers learn a lot

• Volunteering gives you a great sense of purpose

• Volunteering makes your kids proud

• Volunteering makes you feel great

• Volunteers live longer … it’s true!

• Joining the P&C is a great way to get involved in yourschool community, keep up-to-date with what'shappening at the school, contribute to your child'seducation and make new friends.

• Fully supporting fundraising projects allows us toraise money as quickly as possible.

• We are always looking for new ways to raise money -so if you have any ideas, please let us know, eitherby attending a meeting, chatting to a P&C member,or emailing [email protected]
