This ad is about the physiological needs of thirst. This ad is pretty much saying, Jennifer Anniston drinks Smart Water so you should too. It targets everyone because water is one of our basic needs to survive. When they put an ad like this on televi-sion or a magazine people see Jennifer, and they think they will become her if they drink this water. Who ever drinks this wa-ter in the ad, doesn’t change the taste of the actual water. This advertisement messes with our mind as a consumer because we see the water and know that we need it to survive, then we see the actress and we think that this water must taste really good if a celebrity drinks it, so we feel pressured into buying this product.

This ad is about Maslow’s Need for Safety because it is about how this door will keep you safe. In this ad there is a prison security door, they are trying to send the message that, ‘this door is so secure, that it keeps prisoners in jail.’ These gives you that safe feeling that, if prisoners can’t get through this door than your house will never get broken into or robbed. This ad targets society because safety and security is one of Maslow’s needs. When we need a feeling of safety and secu-rity this ad understands that because they are giving us the best form of security there is, or so they think.

This ad of men’s axe body spray targets Maslow’s Need for belonging. In this advertisement there is a male put-ting axe body spray on, and this is attracting all the girls. The creators of axe want you to think that if you put this spray on it will have all the girls running at you. This is false advertisement because this doesn’t happen in real life. This ad is an example of love need because to be love by somebody, you must first attract them. Smelling bad, which axe ‘solves’ would prevent attracting some-one. Axe thinks they are able to fulfill your need of love because for a girl to like you, you need to smell decent. Axe apparently gives you the ability to smell decent and

I think this ad targets Maslow’s Esteem needs. This is an advertisement about a luxurious car called a Lamborghi-ni. When people buy a car they think about how people perceive them. If they buy a luxurious car like the one in this advertisement, then people will think they are more worthy and rich. This ad is telling us that if you buy this car you will become worthy and respected. This gives people with low self-esteems a raise in their self-esteem level because they feel liked by everyone else. It is a smart ad because It is very true, if you buy this car you will be perceived as ‘that rich guy’, which some people enjoy be-ing called.

This ad targets Maslow’s need for self Actualization. This ad is about the Canadian forces and trying to recruit people to join. I chose this ad for Self Actualization because the Canadian army is wear people can reach their full potential by joining. I think the goal of this advertisement is that if you join you can be the best you can be and help your country. In the add they say, “Fight Fear. Fight Distress. Fight Chaos”. This is a catchy slogan because when you read this you feel that if you join you will be doing a good deed. Although the ad means well, it can seem like a form of brain-washing because they want you to help your country because it is the right thing to do.

This article is called “Record store puts second spin on vinyl”. This article is an example of an article that deals with a lo-cal businessperson or entrepreneur. The article is about Ian Cheung, an entrepreneur who is opening a vinyl record only store on College Street. The article describes the challenges that Cheung is facing with starting up his own business such as working long hours because of not having enough money to pay employees, or not making profit because of rent. These are all problems that entrepreneurs face which is why this article contains a good example of an entrepreneur.

This article is called “Universal gets nod to buy EMI”. This arti-cle deals with a merger between two or more companies. This merger is an example of an acquisition, which is when one company owns a high enough percentage of another company to acquire it. This article is about how The Universal Music Group has won approval from the U.S. Federal Trade Com-mission to purchase the EMI group record company, which is most famous for recording The Beatles. There are two types of mergers, an acquisition and an equal merger, which is when two companies merge together to form one.

This article is called “Largest launch yet”. This article discusses a breakthrough in technology. “Largest launch yet” is an ar-ticle that discusses the iphone 5 just after it was announced. The article describes apples aggressive launch plan and how they are aiming to have double the amount of sales in the first week then any other iphone. This article doubles as an adver-tisement by hyping up the phone and listing all the specs and statements made by apple workers. This article is a good ex-ample of a breakthrough in technology because not only does it describe the new product but it talks about how the new product is being marketed.

This article is called “Nexen votes for takeover”. This article is about events in a foreign country that will affect the Canadian market of provide Canadians with a new opportunity. This article is about a Calgary based oil company called Nexen being taken over by a Chi-nese oil company. The merger will convert Nexen into an even big-ger company instead of destroying it. The deal still requires approval from the government under the Investment Canadian Act. The gov-ernment thinks this might pose a threat to Canadian security because the foreign company has ties to foreign intelligence agencies, which may try to acquire control over sectors of the Canadian economy. This article shows how controversial situations like this can be. Many Canadians and Canadian government members share concerns that China will control such a big part of the Canadian economy and this is making them very nervous.

This article is called “Room for this brand to grow”. This is an ar-ticle about managing a business or organization. This article dis-cusses how UFC’s popularity has gone down over the past year and that there is still room for it to grow. UFC is ranked as the 4th most watched sport in Canada. The average number of pay-per-view purchases has dropped by 100,000 households since 2008. The marketing power has recently been shifting from UFC to individual fighters who are becoming more relevant in the market-ing world. This article helps us see the factors that people in places of management have to watch out for when managing their com-panies. It also discusses some of the ways to make a business more relevant and successful.

-Brian Lynch wrote a letter regarding Stephen Harpers appointing of 5 new senators

-Brian says “An appointment to the Canadian Senate is like winning the cash for life lottery. Senators earn $132,300 a year as a base salary, serve until age 75, and last year sat in the Senate for only 69 days. The total cost for Canadian taxpayers to maintain the Senate in 2008-2009 was $90,232,000.”

- “ Senate is useless and should be abolished.”
