Layout

I wanted to keep to the traditional layout, which I have seen from the double page spreads I have analysed. Therefore, I have put the picture on one side, whilst leaving the text sections on the other. I didn’t want to have too much text on the left side; therefore I have added the by-line to the picture. The side bar is at the bottom of the body text, because once the reader has finished reading the article and looking at the pictures, they are then able to get a deeper insight into upcoming events that are happening with Hannah and Louisa. The colour scheme would be much lighter than the front cover, therefore I wanted to use white as the background, and pastel pink and add aspects of silver and gold for the article title and by-line, as it keeps to my teenage girl target audience.

Kicker

Some magazines have the kicker across the page, but I wanted it to be right under the article title, because firstly, it makes my double page spread neat and easy to read which would be appealing to teenage girls, because it would not be overpowering. Also it gives the reader a general insight into what the article is about, which would make them much more interested in reading the article.

By-line

The by-line would be it in italic, as italic creates an elegant look, which is what the picture is conveying. But also, the italic enables the by-line to standout, which is important, because if it wasn’t it would over shadowed by the picture, which is what the reader would first look at, rather than the by-line.

Article Title

I want to try and incorporate a Hollywood theme, because the double page spread is not only advertising their music, but also their fame/lives. Therefore, I want to use the font Campbell, because it is the font that most Hollywood perfume adverts use, also making the title feminine.

2nd Draft

• I really want the picture to cover the whole of the page, but leaving two little white boarders on the sides. But I can’t see the text, due to the background, therefore I have added a white box to make the body text readable

3rd Draft

• I had to leave the idea of having both pictures cover the page, and so I have cropped the pictures and put them to one side, which is the conventional layout of a double page spread

• Therefore, I have added the text on the white space, so it can be readable

4th Draft

• I have gone back to using two separate images, and I have just changed the opacity of the boxes of text so the pages do not seem too crowded. The reason I have done this is because Draft 3’s layout is very simple, that this might not be eye-catching for my target audience, as they are usually drawn to unique and colourful designs

• I have used the effect “difference” on the headlines, because I could not find a colour that matched the different colours in the background, but this effect creates vibrant colours, which are suited to my target audience

Feedback on Draft 4

• Everything is much more colourful, and eye-catching

• However, I do think that I haven’t followed the conventional style of a double page spread, and it does not look as professional as it could be.

LayoutI have used to separate images of the two separate images of the musicians that I am featuring, because I wanted to capture their individual personalities to be able to show my readers what they are truly like, as this is what they want to know.I then added their separate pull quotes to each of the pictures, but just fro aesthetic purposes, I have put a pull quote at the bottom, whilst the other pull quote is at the top

Pull QuotesThe pull quote I have chosen will be taken from the 1st double page spread’s article. And I will use a quote from the article that stands out, and represents what the musician is like as a person or what the musician wants the readers to know, so that there is a personal connection with the readers. Therefore, capturing my target audiences attentions

Draft 2

• Even though my target audience chose a differet picture, I wanted to try and see what it would be like if I used two separate images. And instead of using a long-shot like my first draft I have instead used a close-up and a medium close up, because I havent used those angles in my pictures yet.

Draft 3

• I have chosen instead to use a single image with a two shot, instead of having two separate images. I have kept the close-ups because I wanted to capture my musicians having fun, and looking at the camera, so that the readers would feel they are more connected to the musicians. This will occur more when they read the pull quotes, which is made to look like the musicians are directly speaking to the readers.
