The Voice of Miller County Baptist Association A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS Last Friday afternoon I sat on the deck looking across my beautiful Ozark Valley. The oak trees stood there as solid as they have for years. The woodpeckers, bluebirds, cardinals, and others pecked and sang and flitted from tree to tree just as they have since the day of creation. The clouds drifted across the sky and the crickets sang . . . it seemed as though nothing in the world had changed. And I was reminded that indeed nothing had changed. Human nature was just as depraved as it has been for ages. And God was still on His throne! He is still on His throne today, by the way. And will be tomorrow as well. Regardless of what the Supreme Court of the United State has done, or may or may not do, God is still on the throne. He was the Sovereign Ruler of the universe when the tower of Babel was built, and destroyed. He was on His throne when Pharaoh was oppressing the Isrealites. He was on His throne when Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem. God was Sovereign when Alexander the Great conquered Persia. He was on his throne when Caesar ruled Rome, and He was on His throne when each of the current justices of the Supreme Court were appointed and confirmed. In consideration of recent events, our own beloved nation will soon join that list of “world powers” on the ash heap of history. So what are we to do? Some are anxious, frantic, wringing their hands – at least figuratively – and in a near panic. I prefer to follow the example of Daniel, and would encourage you to do the same. In Daniel 6 we read about King Darius signing an injunction that no one can pray to any god or person except the King. Now some would say that such an injunction was only for thirty days and they would wait it out. Sadly, I fear there are many people in our day that go thirty days without praying even without such an injunction . . . but that is another matter altogether. What did Daniel do, though? According to Daniel 6:10 (NASB) “when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously. Daniel carried on as he had always been doing. Daniel’s faith and practice was determined by an abiding relationship with an unchanging God, not by government decree. Daniel knew that Darius was only on the throne by God’s sovereign will and the God was ultimately the one he would have to answer to. It would be wise for us to recognize that God does not change – Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13.8), he does not change nor change His mind (Numbers 23.19, I Samuel 15.29, James 1.17). His call on us to faithfully follow Him has not changed. His reward for those who do faithfully follow Him has not changed. Let us therefore be steadfast, immovable . . . faithful, even as our Lord is. So as the world around us does not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, and God has given them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper (Romans 1.28) let us also recognize that even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools. (Romans 1.21-22). Human nature has not changed either – it is still depraved and still in need of Jesus. So let us carry on in sharing the message of the cross, even though the world may be a little more hostile and unresponsive. For after all, God is still on the throne . . . A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS

Last Friday afternoon I sat on the deck looking across my beautiful Ozark Valley.

For after all, God is still on the throne . . .

43 YEARS OF PASTORING COMMEMORATED

On Sunday, June 14, Dr. & Mrs. Earl Wood were recognized during morning worship with a

plaque listing all churches that Dr. Earl has served during his 43 years of pastoring. He is

currently pastor at Flatwoods Baptist Church. The Sam Cotton Family sang during the worship

service.

FLATWOODS ANNUAL FISH FRY Below are 2 photos from the Flatwoods Baptist Church Annual Fish Fry held at Earl & Ruth Wood's place on Sunday, June 14. We had about 85 in attendance and enjoyed an afternoon of fish, food, fellowship, music, games, & rain. Hard core Ozark fish eaters wouldn't let a little rain keep them away.

CALLING MISSOURI BAPTISTS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE FOR THE BUCKET PROJECT

Summer has arrived and Missouri’s Major League Baseball Teams are on top of their game with a winning season. You are being asked to step up to the plate as well. Missouri Baptists have been given a huge challenge by Baptist Global Response to fill 5,000 “Buckets of Love” in 2015. This month, 486 of Missouri’s buckets have arrived at the Houston port ready to be

shipped to Africa to give our IMB missionaries and Baptist partners an open door to share the gospel with persons who are terminally ill with HIV and AIDS related illnesses. The current container of buckets is going to be headed to Mozambique. The next container of approximately 800 buckets has been requested to go to Togo where the buckets will be distributed in Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. We don’t want to drop the ball as our missionaries anticipate receiving their buckets at the earliest possible date. Vacation Bible School offerings are serving as a great resource to support The Bucket Project, and other summer activities could prove to be a great opportunity for your church group to collect funds and fill buckets. So think outside the box and put your force behind the effort to hit a home run with this worthy project. Go to www.gobgr.org/buckets and find all the resources necessary to fill a bucket (shopping lists, packing lists, videos and list of collection points). Also join the more than 1,000 people who “like” the Facebook page, “The Bucket Project – Hospice Kits”, where you will find daily postings regarding the collection and delivery of buckets. Donations for The Bucket Project can be made by check, payable to First Baptist Church, Raytown, and mailed to 10500 East 350 Highway, Raytown, MO 64138. Be sure to put “For Bucket Project” on the notation line. Volunteers at the church are using donations to fill buckets on a regular basis. Questions about The Bucket Project may be addressed to Missouri Coordinators for The Bucket Project, Bill and Carol Bowers at [email protected] or by calling 816-830-5367 or 816-809-2267.

NEWS FROM THE JENSENS

Greetings from chilly Port Elizabeth, South Africa. From what my parent’s said last weekend, it’s been

pretty warm back in Missouri so the cool may be just what you’re looking for. Veronica is back

home for the Summer/Winter on her break before returning to SBU this fall. Spending lots of family

time and involving her in the ministry as well. Thanks for your continued prayer support. It’s been a

great couple months of ministry since our April update! Hope you enjoy the update.

God bless,

Helmer
