COMMUNITY CENTRE UPLIFTMENT CHANGING THE LIVES OF MANY THROUGH SKILLSTRANSCRIPT
“ENRICHING THE MIND, SUSTAINING THE COMMUNITY”
Reg No: 2013/058572/08
“We alone cannot change the world, but we can cast a stone across the waters
to create many ripples.”
Dante Paige Training Academy was established to provide an affordable opportunity for
impoverished members of the community to better educate themselves via different course options
that will be on offer.
With the ever growing rate of unemployment and the soaring cost of basic day to day items, the
need to educate oneself becomes more necessary to improve job prospects, thereby creating better
living standards for that person and their families.
Dante Paige Training Academy is offering various skills. The most popular one is the Computer class,
offering basic computer skills and introduction courses into Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Outlook. Our computer room is equipped with brand new Dell computers and latest Microsoft
software. All teaching material is created by, and therefore endorsed by Microsoft. It is created in
line with industry standards as stated by Microsoft. With computers taking over most aspects of
businesses the need for trained individuals becomes greater thus the need to study these courses
becomes greater in order to be suitably experienced for these opportunities.
Our beauty courses are also gaining in popularity amongst stay at home mums. These women have
after completing this course, gained a skillset which has improved their self-worth and enabled them
to earn a living while staying at home. We also teach pupils at a local disable school these beauty
courses.
For our future skills development programs, we intend on offering the following:-
1) A course on the use of power tools. This teaches students various DIY skills, which will
enable them to obtain handy-man work.
2) A course on basic mechanical skills. We will be teaching students how to service vehicles,
change brakes etc. We have partnered with an RMI accredited mechanical workshop to
provide practical experience to promising students.
Entrepreneurship is vital for the effective and widely-spread socio-economic upliftment of this
country’s people. With the ever-present challenge of unemployment, Dante Paige Training academy
has identified the need to reinforce a spirit of entrepreneurship within South African society,
beginning at the grass-roots level. With today’s high school learners and school-leavers being the
potential business owners of tomorrow, Dante Paige Training Academy is committed to embracing
and supporting in the training and skills development area.

“For it is in giving that we receive.”
Dante Paige Training Academy has so far held three beauty workshops at AM Moola Spes
Nova school for the disabled in 2013. These workshops are run to better train the
learners in various aspects of beauty treatment. We will be running more workshops in
2014
Learners are taught various hair care techniques, how to do manicures and pedicures, as
well as make-up application tips.
These workshops are designed to enable these learners to reach a level whereby they
are experienced enough to open up their own businesses at home. Due to their
disabilities some of these leaners upon finishing school find it difficult to adapt to a
normal working environment. This leads to depression and sadly in some cases, suicide.
By opening up their own businesses at the comfort of their homes these learners find a
source of income and grow in confidence, allowing them to better integrate with society.
Dante Paige Training Academy has pledged to run these workshops at least every
quarter a year.
We have successfully placed one of the students, on a full time basis, at one of the
leading salons in Phoenix. This proves that these workshops are effective.
The students are both
Male and female
On The 8th of February 2013 Dante Paige Training Academy donated uniforms and
stationary to learners of Natest Primary School in Phoenix.
50 of the poorest kids nominated by the school were given brand new uniforms. Another
50 were given school bags with stationary. We also fed the learners with pies and juices.
The staff of the school including honoured guest, like Speaker of the EThekwini
Municipality, Councillor Logie Naidoo were treated to a scrumptious lunch.
Councillor Logie Naidoo also entertained the audience with a song. Two cartoon
character desk and a large floor mat was also donated to the grade R classes.
The reason we chose a primary school is because we want to instil a sense of hope in the
minds of the young kids. They need to know that there are people out there willing to
assist, so that they wouldn’t give up on achieving their dreams too early in life. The
reason we gave uniforms and stationary is because kids will not feel embarrassed or
depressed. They will come to school without those things playing on their minds. This in
turn allows them to focus more on their school work and just enjoy being at school. We
continue to forcus on projects likes this as the outcry is huge
In the words of our great former president Mr Nelson Mandela “Education is the most
powerful weapon we can use to change the world.” So what better way to start than with
our young minds?
Dante Paige Training Academy main focus is Training and Skill development but when there is a need
for social upliftment we rally together to make a difference. We have given food hampers, blankets
and clothes. We have made wishes come through and stood up for Human rights. Our motto is
simple: "Pay if forward" and accordingly we serve ALL people irrespective of race, religion, culture,
colour, political affiliation or geographical location, unconditionally.
We actively seek to build bridges between people of different cultures and religions engendering
goodwill, harmonious coexistence, tolerance and mutual respect in keeping with the divine
injunction.
We are offering a course that covers the fundamentals of computers-meaning history, components
and operations. The course also includes lessons on how to use the various programs of Microsoft
Office; such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Our computer room is equipped with brand
new Dell computers and latest Microsoft software. All teaching material is created by, and therefore
endorsed by Microsoft. It is created in line with industry standard as stated by Microsoft. With
computers taking over most aspects of businesses the need for trained individuals becomes greater
thus the need to study these courses becomes greater in order to be suitably experienced for these
opportunities.
In the future we will offer more advance computer classes.
We want to enrich the community by making the impossible, possible
through technology!
We will be training in various aspects of beauty and hair. We have a fully
equipped hair and beauty Lab. The skills learnt here will enable the learner to
establish their own businesses thereby supplementing their current income.
Our trainer will cover all aspects of Hair and beauty with the students
What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality
We will be providing aids education courses to the community. We have aids counsellors and Doctors that are willing to come and educate the students. They have computer programs and movies that will be shown on computer. Why HIV/AIDS education?
Each year there are more and more new HIV infections, which goes to shows that people either aren't learning the message about the dangers of HIV, or are unable or unwilling to act on it. Many people are dangerously ignorant about the virus - a survey found recently that a third of teens thought there was a 'cure' for AIDS. Education is an important component of preventing the spread of HIV.
Even if education were completely successful, it would still have to be an on-going process - each generation a new generation of people become adult and need to know how to protect themselves from infection. The older generations, who have hopefully already been educated, may need the message reinforced, and need to be kept informed, so that they are able to protect themselves and inform the younger.
There are three main reasons for AIDS education, the first of which is to prevent new infections from taking place. This can be seen as consisting of two processes:
Giving people information about HIV - what HIV and AIDS are, how they are transmitted, and how people can protect them from infection.
Teaching people how to put this information to use and act on it practically, how to get and use condoms, how to suggest and practice safer sex, how to prevent infection in a medical environment or when injecting drugs.
A second reason that AIDS education is needed is to improve quality of life for HIV positive people. Too often, AIDS education is seen as being something which should be targeted only at people who are not infected with HIV in order to prevent them from becoming infected. When AIDS education with HIV positive people is considered at all it is frequently seen only in terms of preventing new infections by teaching HIV+ people about the importance of not passing on the virus. An important and commonly-neglected aspect of AIDS education with HIV positive people is enabling and empowering them to improve their quality of life. HIV positive people have varying educational needs, but among them are the need to be able to access medical services and drug provision and the need to be able to find appropriate emotional and practical support and help
The third reason people need AIDS education is to reduce stigma and discrimination. In many countries there is a great deal of fear and stigmatization of people who are HIV positive. This fear is too often accompanied by ignorance, resentment and ultimately, anger. Sometimes the results of prejudice and fear can be extreme, with HIV positive people being burned to death in India, and many families being forced to leave their homes across the United States when neighbors discover a family-member's positive status. Discrimination against positive people can help the AIDS epidemic to spread - if people are fearful of being tested for HIV, then they are more likely to pass the infection to someone else without knowing.
Approximately 1 000 people get infected with HIV daily in South Africa, with Kwa-Zulu Natal accounting for a third of the 1 000 new infections countrywide, according to the latest South Africa Survey, published by the South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR)
The survey is the annual yearbook on all social, economic, and political aspects of South Africa that the IRR has been publishing since 1946.
In 1999 there were 646 806 new infections, the equivalent of 1 772 a day. By 2013, new infections had decreased to 321 300, the equivalent of 880 a day. The data was sourced from the ASSA2008 AIDS and Demographic Model published by the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA).
According to the survey, there are 298 new HIV infections in KwaZulu-Natal daily. In 2011 KwaZulu-Natal had 108 594 new infections, 8 961 (8%) of which were accounted for by those under the age of 15, also referred to as children. In total, some 1.1% of the province’s population was newly infected with HIV that year.
Following KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng had 71 637 new infections – the equivalent of 196 daily. Of these, 5 912 (8%) were accounted for by children. Some 0.6% of the provincial population was newly infected. High as this may seem, the figure has decreased by more than 50% since 1999. Lerato Moloi, head of research at the IRR, attributed the decrease in new HIV infections to
a number of interventions including awareness programmes, condom distribution, and male circumcision. “The Department of Healthm (DoH) distributed almost 400 million condoms, both male and female, in 2011/12. It is quite important that the condoms are not only distributed but also used. It is therefore quite encouraging that the National HIV Communication Survey, published by the DoH, shows that condom use at first sex went up from 18% to 66% 1996 and 2012. This is an important indicator because those who use condoms at between first sex are more likely to use them throughout their lives,”

Dante Paige Training Academy was established to cater for the educational
needs of the community. It was founded by Jerome and Natasha Naidoo, who
through their years of community work realized that there was a need for a
community education centre. We strongly believe in the old saying “It is better
to teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime rather than giving him a fish
and feeding him for a day.”
Very few people in Phoenix and surrounding areas can afford basic education for
their kids. Stuff like uniforms and stationary. Even sending their kids with lunch
to school becomes difficult in these tough economic times. Fewer still can afford
formal tertiary education. It is for these reasons that we have opened a training
centre that offers courses that will empower people, creating more job
opportunities for them as well as skill training to enable them to even start up
their own small businesses.
As with any community driven project, funding from donors is a key factor in its
survival or failure. Likewise Dante Paige Training Academy appeals to you for
any support that you can offer towards the successful operation of this academy.
Growing up we were always told by elders that, “Knowledge is something that
can never be taken away from you, always strive to gain more.” That is why
Dante Paige Training Academy has committed itself to imparting knowledge in as
many people as possible allowing them to become productive members of
society and carrying with them something that can’t be taken away. Education is
the key in ridding this country of poverty and improving the social well-being of
all.
Your contributions in whatever form will provide the means to help alleviate
most of the problems facing society. Once again I appeal to you to join us and
let us work together to create a prosperous society. Your help will cause a ripple
effect that will help generations to come.
