Thank you for considering making Congregation Rodeph Sholom your “Jewish Home, Today and Tomorrow.”
Congregation Rodeph Sholom is a vibrant, exciting and growing Conservative synagogue, serving the needs of Jews of all ages, interests and backgrounds. Our continued success is a direct result of our members’ passion and commitment to learn together, pray and sing together, and support the community in which we live and work.
Congregation Rodeph Sholom is blessed with an amazing clergy: Rabbi Joshua Hearshen, who has led our kehillah for more than five years, and Cantor Andres Kornworcel, whose voice is truly heaven-sent.
We would be delighted to have you join us and become a member of the Congregation Rodeph Sholom family!
Thank you again for your consideration.

Message from the PresidentSteve Haubenstock
Dear Friends, For 115 years, Congregation Rodeph Sholom has offered Jews throughout Tampa Bay a sacred community and spiritual guidance with a wide variety of services, educational programming and social events. You should make us a part of your life. Our spiritual leader, Rabbi Joshua Hearshen, promotes a strong Jewish philosophy, takes an active role in member education, pastoral care and Tikkun Olam. Cantor Andres Kornworcel
joyfully brings music and song into our lives. Education Director Judy Van Der Stelt opens the doors to the foundations of Jewish learning. We are a synagogue of excellence, affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
No matter what your background or what you are looking for, be it a quiet meditative moment, an uplifting participatory service or a busy organization where you can get involved, Congregation Rodeph Sholom is for you. There are so many ways to get connected and we want to make it as easy as possible. The enclosed materials will help you start in the journey. Contact our staff. They are here to help you and answer questions.
Thank you for visiting our synagogue. If you are not a member, now is the best time to join. If you found us online, please stop by and see us or leave your information and we will contact you. I know you will find Congregation Rodeph Sholom to be more than a place to worship it is “Your Jewish Home.” L’Shalom, Steven Haubenstock President

Rabbi Joshua Hearshen Even as a child growing up in suburban Detroit, MI, Rabbi Josh Hearshen knew that he wanted to become a rabbi. Rabbi Hearshen credits a committed Jewish upbringing and his Sunday school teacher, Morton Wolin ז''ל, for placing him on the path of the rabbinate. Rabbi Hearshen enjoys teaching concepts in new and unique ways that grabs people’s attention and keeps them active. He played a central role in bringing young adults, young families and teens into synagogue life through his innovative programming and his personal connections with all the members of his community. He has been recognized for excellence in education by the Bureau of Jewish Education in Los Angeles, CA and with the national Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award.
Rabbi Hearshen strives every day to inspire, engage and expand our synagogue community. A community prays together, socializes together, enjoys life together, learns together, and longs to be together when apart. Rabbi Hearshen has a BA in Social Relations from Michigan State University, an MA in Rabbinic Studies from the University of Judaism and Rabbinic Ordination from the University of Judaism. He is the co-author with Rabbi Elliot Dorff of a paper on Violent and Misogynistic Video Games which was approved and published by the Committee on Jewish Law and Standards in 2010. Rabbi Hearshen spent three years (2007 – 2010) in Mercer Island, WA at Herzl Ner-Tamid as the Assistant Rabbi and three years (2010 – 2013) in Syosset, NY at Midway Jewish Center as the Associate Rabbi. He is married to Carrie Hearshen, who he met in college. Carrie is an accomplished Jewish educator who spent three years writing educational materials for Torah Aura Productions in Los Angeles, CA. Rabbi Hearshen and Carrie welcomed their daughter Ayelet into the world in 2008 and they are enjoying learning the ropes of parenthood. In his spare time Rabbi Hearshen will be found reading (comic books are a favorite), playing hockey, cooking, rooting for Detroit sports teams or practicing magic.
Cantor Andres Kornworcel At an early age, Andres Saul Kornworcel Felhendler developed his love for music growing up in Montevideo, the capital city of his native country, Uruguay. His experience singing in school choirs naturally led him to a career in music. Cantor Kornworcel studied voice lessons with private teachers at the Escuela Nacional de Arte Lirico (National School of Lyric Arts) before transitioning to his cantorial training. Cantor Kornworcel went on to study at the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute and at the Beith Midrash Sefaradi in Israel with Chazan Naphtali Herstik, Raymond Goldstein and many other great Cantors.
Cantor Kornworcel has sung in many Jewish choirs and has traveled twice to perform at the Zimriya, a tri-annual World Assembly of Choirs in Israel. Throughout his career, Cantor Kornworcel has traveled the globe sharing his love of Jewish song with Jewish communities from Uruguay to Sweden, from Mexico and now the United States. While leading from the pulpit, Cantor Kornworcel also received his Law Degree from Universidad de la Republica del Uruguay.
In 2006 he and his family moved to Las Vegas to Midbar Kodesh Temple where he developed community events such as the Jerusalem Day Concert, celebrating Yom Yerushalayim; Midbar Idol; Chanukah Bingo and the International Holocaust Remembrance Day along with other activities and small programs.
Currently Cantor Kornworcel's vocal talents can be heard on Shabbat, Jewish Holidays and special events at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Tampa, Florida. Cantor Kornworcel is married to Ariana Alfie and has two children, Carol and Eduardo.
