How o UseEssential Oils
There are three basic ways to use essetialoils: ihalatio, topical applicatio, ad iteralcosumptio. Read the Saety Guidelies ad Tipsprior to the use o ay essetial oil.
I n h a l a t I o n
Te inhalation o essential oils heightens
the senses and can triggernumerous desired responses
in the body. Below are
several techniques
used to inhale
essential oils:
+ Direct inhalationsimply smell them.
+ Diuse the oils using a Young Living diuser which disperses the oil in a
micro-ne vapor into the air. Te Young Living diuser will not heat the
oils, thus ensuring ull benets, as extreme heat can damage important
constituents in the oil.
+ Fill a humidier with water. Put a tissue or small cloth, sprinkled with
a ew drops o oil, in ront o the escaping steam. (Do not put oil in your
humidier. It will foat on top o the water instead o rising with the water
vapor and may cause damage to your humidier.)
+ Careully pour hot water into a bowl and add a ew drops o oil. Cover your
head and bowl in a tent-like ashion with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly.

Apply essential oils directly onto the skin
where indicated.
Dilute with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or a pure vegetable oil ( e.g.,
olive or almond ) beore applying i dilution is indicated in the Application Chart.
Dilution may protect against possible skin sensitivities. Key points o applicationon the body are :

simplE stEps:
1. Careully tip the oil bottle and drop drops in the palm o the hand or directly
on the desired application area.
. I dropping oil in your hand, rub palms together in a circular motion and then
massage oil onto the desired point o application. I applying directly to the
desired area, use your hand to massage the oil in a circular motion into the skin.
Repeat i desired.
Attention: Essential oils are very potent, and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, immediately
apply V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Please read label directions
for each individual oil before using.
You can also create your own massage oil blends by mixing your avorite essential
oils with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or by using Young Livings pre-
mixed massage oil blends (e.g., Relaxation, Ortho Ease) to relax, uplit, soothe,
and relieve.

Research indicates that some oils are more eective when taken
orally. Only pure essential oils, proven sae and labeled as dietary
supplements, should be used internally. Dilution and dosage is
dependent on the age, size, and thehealth constitution o the individual.

oils internally.
suggEstEd intErnal cOnsumptiOn mEthOds:
+ Put several drops o oil into an empty capsule and swallow with water.
+ Add 1 drops to a glass o water or rice milk.
+ Put 1 drops onto a piece o bread or add to your meals when cooking.
+ Add 1 drops onto a teaspoon o Blue Agave and swallow.
+ Drop directly onto the tongue and swallow. Exercise extreme caution
when using this method. Many oils are very strong and should be tested by
pouring a single drop onto a spoon and tasting a small portion to determine
the amount o oil to be used.

Application ChartEach single essential oil and essential oil blend sold by Young Living is
categorized below into three areas: topical application, dietary supplement(internal consumption), and aromatic (inhalation). Categorization o each oil
is based upon well-documented, scientic inormation, as well as literature
rom respected experts in essential oils. Tis inormation is intended to guide
you in essential oil use; however, qualied health proessionals may oer
additional guidance and should be contacted or disease or serious health
conditions. Also, see individual bottle lables or specic directions.

oil bottle opening helps you adhere to
correct dosages as prescribed by health
proessionals, reputable literature, or as
listed on the label.
Te orice also helps prevent small
children rom accidentally swallowing
large amounts o essential oil. However, i
you suspect that a child has consumed a
large quantity o oil, administer milk and
seek the advice o a health proessional.
For younger children, seek the advice o
a health proessional beore the topicalapplication o any red drop oils (see
application chart).
When applying a new oil, test one drop
on a small patch o skin rst (e.g., on the
underside o the orearm). Skin sensitivity
is highly individual. I the skin eels hot or
turns red, apply a vegetable oil (e.g., olive
or almond) to the area, which will dilutethe essential oil. Washing with water is
less eective.
Use only one new oil or oil blend at a time
to determine how your body responds.
Wait 0 minutes beore applying another
new oil.
Certain oils may sting the eyes and other
sensitive areas o the body. Essential
oil residue on the ngers may damage
contact lenses in addition to causing eye
discomort. I accidental stinging does
occur, put 1 drops o pure vegetable oilinto the eye.
Avoid putting essential oils directly into
the ears.
Pure citrus oils may compound the
efects o sun exposure. Limit prolonged
exposure to direct sunlight or up to 1
hours (up to hours or angelica andlime; up to 8 hours or bergamot) ater
applying these undiluted essential oils to
the skin (see application chart).
Cosmetics, personal care products, or
cleansers with synthetic ingredients
penetrate the dermal layers o the skin.
Avoid applying essential oils to these
areas, as it may take these chemicalsdeeper into skin, atty tissue, or the
bloodstream.
Avoid using essential oils on skin that
has been damaged or afected by chemi-
cal burns.

When adding essential oils to a bath,mix them with the Young Living Bath &
Shower Gel Base or Epsom salt. Mix 10
drops o essential oil to 1/ cup o bath
gel and add to running water.
Limit the difusion o unamiliar essential
oils to 10 minutes each day, increasing
the time difused ater their efects are
determined. Te time o difusion isdependent on room size and potency o
the oils. For example, limit strong oils in
a small room to less time than mild oils
in a large room (see application chart).

using essential oils i you have a serious
medical condition or i you are preg-
nant, nursing, or planning to become
pregnant. DO NO use wild tansy, clary
sage, sage, ennel, wintergreen, or hyssop
during pregnancy.
