Workshop Overview
Introductions
• New approach to the problem!
• It’s hard work!
• ebXML is defining the methodology - so it’s a work in progress
• X12 is applying the methodology
X12/TG4 CORE COMPONENTS Core Components Overview
X12/TG4 CORE COMPONENTS Core Components Overview
• What is the Same– We will be sending messages– The messages will have structure– Optional repeating/looping/nesting– Simple data elements, with types– Logical groupings of data elements– Etc.
X12/TG4 CORE COMPONENTS Core Components Overview
• We standardize across levels, such that we only standardize once!
• We start at the business process level, ensuring concise messages
• Our philosophy is “CORE” + eXtension• Our approach is “CORE” + Context =
Semantic Resolution• Our focus is on “Neutral” representation

The Spreadsheet• Enter the “Core Block” first in the first column.
• Then enter the “Core Components” within that Core Block in the second column.
• The elements making up the Core Components go into the third column.– Team brainstorms using little papers– Assemble into ‘model’
• Use the last column for usage, to help you determine the how and why a Core Block is there and being used.
