There is a mountain range within the northern Srem/Srijem region bordered by the Danube, which is a mere

80km long and 15km wide. Its highest peak is only 539m, yet it stands out like an island in the middle of the

plain with its steep valleys, gullies, gentle slopes and forests. This is Fruška Gora. Today, the area of the wine

region is just 3,600 hectares. There are 1,700 hectares on the Croatian side and the remaining 1,900 hectares are

shared among Serbian winegrowers. The Croatian part is famous for its Traminac and Grasevina from around

Ilok, the Serbian part is well known for its historic sweet, spicy Bermet from Sremski Karlovci.
