About the Department

The Electronics & Communication Engineering (E&CE) is a pioneering branch
amongst all the Engineering branches. The Electronics & Communication
Engineering Department was established in the year 2001 with an intake of 60,
which enhanced to 120 intake. Research Centre was established in the year
2010, provides facilities to do research activities for research associates. The
Electronics & Communication Engineering department has well equipped
laboratories with sophisticated equipments along with the room for research
oriented activities. The department has dedicated and experienced staff with
expertise to give excellent guidance to the students and train the students in
technical aspects, communication skills and interpersonal relationships. The
department maintains departmental library which is having more than 2000
books. The graduates from the department have been placed in major industries
and multinational corporations such as IBM, Motorola, Siemens, Alcatel, Intel,
Microsoft, ISRO etc. The Department has MOU & COE with APCOG Systems,
Bengaluru, MOU’s with Manvi Technologies Bidar, Grasim Industries limited,
Kumarapatnam, and Indian Aviation Trade, Davangere.
The Department is well equipped with high end design and analysis laboratories
like Analog & Digital Circuits, Communication Lab, VLSI Design Lab and
Microprocessor & Microcontroller Lab which offers scope in the field of
research includes Wireless & Mobile Communication, Microwave
communication, Robotics, VLSI design, Signal Processing, Image Processing,
Embedded Systems & IoT. The department has also developed a strong bond
with its alumni association and promotes long term relationship with the
industries in various fields.

Dear readers,
A thought that has been enduring in mind when it becomes real; is truly an
interesting and exciting experience. This news letter was one such cherished work
that had its roots in the persuasion. It is a snapshot of the various activities and
advancements in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Proper communication plays a vital role in institution’s development. This news
letter will serve to reinforce and allow increased awareness, improved interaction
and integration among all of us. This news letter will be a medium to provide
proper acknowledgement and respect to all of the efforts and results made by the
faculty and students.
It gives us great opportunity to present the Volume 2, Issue 2 of “WIZONICS
TIMELINE”, the measure of progress. This issue is a brief account of the important
events held up to June 2018.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering is committed to
Educate and Train the students to be effective and efficient Electronics & Communication Engineers
with the following specific objectives.
PEO1: To deliver Engineering Skills and Knowledge by integrating basic engineering concepts with
core Electronics and Communication Engineering to solve the problems of the society.
PEO2: To exhibit technical competency by developing solutions in diverse areas of Electronics and
Communication Engineering.
PEO3: To be Receptive to emerging technologies and attain professional competency through
pursuing Research and life-long learning.

Forum activities summary The summary of various activities conducted under Wizonics for the academic year 2017-18 Even semester are:
1. Tech Charades was conducted on 16-02-18 for the second and third year students to enhance their
communication and team work.
2. Technical Talk on C & C++ was given by Mr. Keerthi Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of IS &E,
GMIT, DVG on 23-02-18 for the students.
3. Cook without Fire was conducted on 23-03-18 to bring out the creativity in students.
4. Indoor and outdoor activities like Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Cricket were conducted on 27-04-18 and
04-05-18 respectively.

Forum Valedictory Forum valedictory along with farewell to the final year students was conducted on 19/05/18. The Chief Guest for
the occasion was Dr. Nirmala C R, HOD, Department of CS&E, BIET, Davangere.Various fun activities were
organized by the pre final year students to make the occasion colourful and memorable.

The Valedictory function was presided over by Dr. P Prakash, Principal, GMIT, Davangere and forum
Chairman Dr. Arun Kumar G, HOD, Department of E&CE, GMIT, Davangere.
Forum Staff Coordinators Mrs. Latha B M and Ms. Vinutha L B, forum treasurer Mr. Chetan B V, student
coordinators, staff and students were also present.
Forum activities were conducted to bring out the best skills in the students.
The faculty and students joined hands to celebrate and showcase our regional culture and
tradition to everyone present on campus by celebrating ETHNIC DAY on 19/03/18.

Ethnic Day
It was not just another normal day in the Department as the campus was decorated in a
traditional way. The energy levels were quite high as the campus was bursting with enthusiasm
and passion.
A few awards were also given away during the function out of which the department of E&CE
secured first place in the Ethnic Day competitions and Amith G of 4th sem bagged the title of
Mr. Ethnic.

Context Adaptive Variable Length Coding and Decoding Algorithm for H.264 Video Codec
using MATLab” in International Journal of Advances in Engineering and Technology,
ISSN:22311963, Vol 11, pp113-121, Issue 3, June 2018. Dr. Murugendrappa N published a paper titled “Efficient Noise Cancellation In Real Time
Speech Signals Using Adaptive RLS Algorithms” in the International conference on EECCMC,
held on Jan 18-Tamil Nadu, India. Mr. R M Nilajkar published a paper titled “Unwanted Voice Suppression by using VAD
Algorithm” in the International Journal of Research in Engineering and Technology, Volume
5, Issue 7, July 2018. Mr. Rajashekar Kunabeva published The Best Paper Award winning paper titled
“Exterimental Characterization of DWT & CS Compression Algorithm” in the International
Conference on Smart Computing Communication & Control(ICS3-2018). Mr. Rajashekar Kunabeva published a paper titled “DWT based Joint Compressive Sensing
and Recovery of MECG Signals” in the International Conference on Wearable Technologies
2017, ICOWT-17,Dayanand Sagar University, Bengaluru,India. Mr. Rajashekar Kunabeva published a paper titled “A Novel Way Of Ecg Compression Using
Redundancy Removal Technique” in the proceedings of the 36th IRF International
Conference, 2017, Bengaluru, India. Mr. Rajappa H S and Mr. Rajendra S Soloni conducted two days workshop on “Antenna
Simulation Tool” on 23rd and 24th March 2018 at SDMIT, Ujire. Mr. Raghudathesh G P conducted 2 days workshop on “Computer Network Simulation
Using NCTUNS & Networking Concepts, Algorithms using C Programming” for inter -
college faculties at GMIT, Davangere on 11th and 12th January 2018. Mr. Chetan B V published a paper titled “Granary Management System Using IoT” in
International Journal for Research Trends and Innovation, ISSN: 2456-3315, Vol.3, Issue 6,
June 2018. Mr. Chetan B V published a paper titled “Disaster Management System Using IoT” in
International Journal for Research Trends and Innovation, ISSN:2456-3315, Vol 3, Issue 6,
June 2018. Mr. Sampath Kumar B published a paper titled “Identifying Leaf Infection for Agriculture
applications Using Image Processing Technique” in the International Research Journal of
Engineering and Technology (IRJET) Volume: 05 Issue: 07, July 2018 e-ISSN: 2395- 0056. Mr. Santosh M Herur and Mr. Sharanabasaveshwara H B published a paper titled “Designing
of Sensing Matrix for Compressive Sensing and Reconstruction” in the International

An industrial visit was organized for the pre final year students on 20/04/18 to RTTC,
Mysore.
The students were enlightened in the area of communication, networking, OFC and
antennas by the experts in the theory sessions. The students were also able to witness the
