JamaicaHistory
The Arawak Indians initially occupied the island before
Christopher Columbus took it over in 1494. The Spanish
people settled in 1655 then the British took over and made it
a slave area. Since then Jamaica has found its independence.

Jamaica has a free-market economy.
The agriculture consists of mining, fishing, farming, cocoa, coffee, coconut and pimentos. It
is influenced by Britain.

Agriculture is important to Jamaica's economy and provides a quarter of the
country's employment. Jamaica is also a major producer of marijuana, known
locally as ganja , which contributes a great deal of money to the economy .

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean.It is one of the most colorful.The island is known for it’s beautiful sandy beaches and tropical look and feel.Jamaica is a big tourist attraction especially for it’s amazing beaches and bright blue water. Negril and Montego Bay are Jamaica's two main coastal attractions with awesome beaches, night clubs, fine dining and golfing. Negril has a 7 mile beach. Montego Bay is known as a party town and also has many great retail stores to go to.
Bob Marley
Bob Marley is the founding father of reggae and is heard everywhere in the country. The
great beat and words of suppression, freedom and slavery are in the music’s lyrics.
His best song is “No Woman, No Cry.” Bob Marley was born February 6, 1945 and died of
cancer that spread throughout his body in May 11, 1981.
Rastafarian is the most dominant religion on the island. Rastafarians worship their God,
Jah. They believe in reincarnation and that men should not cut or comb their hair or beards.
They focus on their inner spirit. The Lion of Judah is a prominent Rasta symbol.
