ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The adaptation of this (White Bear dialect) Plains Cree Conversation Manual was made possible through support from First
Nations University of Canada and funded by a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Grant # 856-2009-0081.
The original Cree Conversation Manual and CD would not exist without the help and support from many individuals and
institutions. These include: The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada [Research Development Initiative Grant
(# 820-2000-2013) to Marie-Odile Junker], Carleton University and Cree Programs of the Cree School Board. Our work is dedicated
to the future generations of Cree speakers.

INTRODUCTION
This Conversation Manual accompanies the Cree conversation CD by the same authors. All of the spoken content of the CD
is transcribed here, with additional footnotes and titles. The following colour code is used: English, French, Plains Cree.
Note about the Audio CD: The 70mn Cree conversation CD is an introduction to Plains Cree conversation. It covers 21
different topics of everyday life interactions in a Cree community. From greetings to social gatherings, from school to hunting and
trapping, each phrase is first given in English, then in French, and then in Plains Cree. There is a long enough pause between phrases
to allow you to repeat what you have heard.
