Oblong Children’s Home at Fairfield
Mark and Marlene Hunt are going to be the house parents for the Fairfield branch of the Oblong Children’s Home, and provided an update:
Much progress has been made in preparation for the opening of the Dyball Home in Fairfield. We (Marlene and Mark) have just completed two and a half weeks of training and are now eagerly awaiting the completion of the remodel of the home. Things are moving rapidly and it is anticipated that the remodel will be completed around the end of the second week of January. We are hoping the first girl can be placed near the end of January or first part of February contingent upon all inspections and licensing requirements being met. The body of Christ has been so generous in making this ministry a reality and we are grateful for the support and enthusiasm that has been shown. We are especially thankful to our family at West Village for all of your financial sacrifice, prayers and words of encouragement. Thank you for treating us as part of your family. The feeling is certainly mutual. We look forward to seeing the transforming power of our Lord Jesus Christ at work in the young ladies God will send to us and we are excited about the opportunity to partner with you in making His love known to them.

As we come to the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 it gives us a chance to look back over the last year and
forward to the next. It’s something we do with our kids to see how they have grown physically and in school. It’s
something we can do for ourselves seeing how we have grown (hopefully not around the middle section) in the
last year. It is also something I think is good for us to do as a church. This being the first full calendar year that I’ve been at West Village this is something I can do with fondness. If there was one word I would use to describe my
feelings for both looking back at 2018 and forward to 2019 it would be “excitement.” Looking back at 2018 I’m excited by what God did in and through our church. We have been blessed by the
addition of so many babies. It is a joy to be in a church full of children. We have seen several young people
surrender their lives to Christ in baptism and declare that they want to follow Jesus for the rest of the lives. We
have had people place their membership with us, saying they want to be a part of what God is doing at West
Village. As a church we have traveled outside the walls of our building to minister to people, shown generosity to
those in need, and help those in our community and beyond. I look forward to 2019 with that same excitement. When I came to West Village in July 2017 I was excited about
what we were doing and what God was doing through us. However, I am even more excited about the potential of
what God can do through us in the future if we keep following Christ and seeking God’s will. As Jesus said in Luke
9:62, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
Let’s look forward towards 2019 with excitement about what God is going to do through us.
