◻ Specially designed individualized instruction is offered for students who qualify for special education programs. There are different levels of support offered, depending on individual student needs.
◻ On the registration form your child brings home, mark the 6th Grade Language Arts and 6th Grade Math boxes, and the case managers will place your child according to his/her IEP goal areas. IEP case managers will meet with each elementary school resource team to discuss student placement.
Academic Support Classes
❏ Math Support-Replaces elective, but weaves in elective concepts
❏ Reading Support- Students reading and writing support in their ELA and Social Studies course.
Making Your Selections
•Make your choices carefully, and be sure you are committed to the classes you select.
•Once schedules are created, our ability to change classes during the year is limited due to class size.
Make Attendance A Priority -Instructional time is irreplaceable
◻ School starts September 6th - please plan accordingly.◻ We consider daily attendance essential to student
success. When planning vacations, please refer to the district calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts.
◻ A good rule of thumb is to not miss more than 9 days per semester. When considering tardies, 3 tardies = 1 absence.
◻ Chronic absenteeism has significant impacts on a student’s achievement, even in early grades. Students who are chronically absent are more likely to fall behind in reading and math, and are also more likely to not graduate from high school. (OSPI, 2016)
A Key to Success
Keys To Success
● Work Completion – Scores earned for class work, homework, and tests will be tracked in order to assign grades. Missing work will earn zeros, so it is imperative that all work is turned in.
● Set aside a study time each evening. Even when there may not be written work to do, this is a perfect time for reading and studying for upcoming tests.
● Check Grades Regularly. Choose one day per week to check grades, attendance, and behavior online through Family Access. You can also set up notifications that will come directly to your email.
● Google Calendar-Check nightly
Chromebooks
● Each student is given a Chromebook at the beginning of the school year.
● Students use their calendar to log daily activities during classes
● Google Classroom, Moodle, Clever, etc.
A Key to Success
Communication
1. Family Access – Watch for Message Center emails and set up notifications.
2. Ask nightly to see your student’s google calendar.3. Check the NLMS website.4. Stay in touch with teachers – email for basic
information, call or set up a conference for larger concerns.
5. NLMS News sent via email on Fridays.
