President’s Report
Wow! it’s hard to
believe that my term as
President is just about
over. The year just flew
by; i didn’t even get
a chance to catch my
breath. However, i enjoyed this year tremendously
as i hope you have also. Although it was a lot of
work i really feel that it was worth it. As the first
woman President i know that i set out with a very
vigorous, yet notable, agenda and i am proud to
say that most of it was achieved. The only item
that fell short was the membership goal of 500; we
did maintain our numbers at 450 or more (at least
we stopped the hemorrhaging of members). This
shortfall is also the result of the slow economy that
we are still facing.
i look forward to next year as Chairwoman of the
Board and i will continue to work very hard for LiBi.
Together, the officers and i will plan out a productive
year for LiBi. i am also going to continue working
for Long island Home Builders Care development
Corp as we embark on the journey of building 6
homes for deserving returning Veterans. This is a
major undertaking and i am really looking forward
to it.
And so, in closing, i would like to wish you and
your family a wonderful Holiday season and may
the new Year bring you lots of peace, prosperity
and good health. see you in January!!!

CEO Report
As i reach my two
year anniversary as your
Chief executive Officer,
it is clear to me that LiBi
is a great organization
consisting of many
individuals and companies which care about Long
island. Whether it is our government relations
activities, our charitable activities or our day to day
operations, LiBi has become a major player in the
regional business community.
First, with regard to our government relations
activities, the work of our Brookhaven and islip
committees, our Community Outreach Committee
and our Green Homes Council have all made
significant contributions. We are much closer
to reaching our goal of a new multi family code
and as of right receiving areas in Brookhaven
and have made significant progress in islip
with a new emphasis on building department
concerns. in north Hempstead we made great
progress with regard to changes in the building
code which were passed by the town board.
We are very close to getting a new transfer of
development rights program in riverhead and
made significant contributions to the makeover of
the new guidelines of the suffolk County Planning
Commission. With regard to community outreach,
the change of our policy to allow LiBi to support
specific projects has allowed us to work with our
builders and associates in many of the towns,
including Oyster Bay, Huntington, islip, Brookhaven,
Hempstead, riverhead and southampton. Many
projects, including AvalonBay in Huntington and a
number of projects in Brookhaven were approved
and will start construction in 2013.
Our Green Homes Council has been
instrumental in providing information to all of the
towns on Long island to change their energy codes
to make them easier for our builders to comply
with. The passage of the legislation last week by
islip leaves Oyster Bay as the only town not to
do so as of now. We will continue to work with
them in the upcoming year. Our charitable arms,
Long island Home Builders Care and Long island
Home Builders Care development Corp, have both
made great contributions to our community. Our
scholarship programs, assistance to food banks
and toy distribution and our “ Building new Homes
for returning Veterans” program showcase what it
means to be a LiBi member. One cannot help but
be affected in a very positive manner when one
is at one of these events. They put LiBi in a very
positive light.
All told, the end of 2012 will bring a new
commitment to LiBi as we move into 2013 and it
will mean great things. As we continue to repair
and renovate our island as a result of sandy, our
commitment to Long island will not waver. My best
wishes for a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

Associate Council Report
Wow, where did the year go? i can’t believe that
i’m writing my last associate council letter. This has
been an amazing year and i want to thank ALL
of you for giving me the opportunity to serve as
your Associate Council President. My experience
as Associate Council President has taught me
so many valuable lessons, both professionally
and personally, that i would never have had the
opportunity to learn. i hope that my commitment
and contributions as Associate Council President
this past year has made a positive impact. i will
forever be grateful and look forward to continuing
my LiBi journey.
i would like to extend an extra special thank
you to all my LiBi friends at our LiBi family; Chuck,
debbie, Charlie, Billy, shelley, Pablo, nick, denise
and Brad. Mitch and Lois – thank you for all your
support and guidance. i don’t know if i could have
done it without you Lois and i’m certainly happy
i didn’t have to. Also, Jen and Vickie - i appreciate
all of your assistance throughout the year and i
can’t thank you enough for honoring all of my last
minute requests. You are all the best!
Your associate council ladder is an awesome
group of energetic, intelligent, leaders. it gives
me great pleasure to announce that Brad will
be starting his presidency in January 2013. The
Associate Council Kick off Meeting will be held
Wednesday, January 9th at 8:30 am in the LiBi
office and this is a meeting you won’t want to miss.
remember, the associate council meetings are one
of the most important first steps towards getting
on the “LiBi inside” so to be a “LiBi insider” you
should attend as many Associate council meetings
and all of the other LiBi functions to maximize your
LiBi Membership.
There’s only one word that comes close to
describing LiBi’s Holiday Party combination Las
Vegas night on Wednesday, december 12th…
incredible! This was one of the greatest LiBi events
of the year and we missed those who were unable
to attend! The night started with the LiHBCdC
recognizing all the people and companies that
contributed to the second home for a returning
Veteran with a wonderful awards ceremony. Then,
we enjoyed hours of amazing food, gambling
and dancing the night away. i want to thank the
Las Vegas night Committee, headed by Chuck
Barredo, the whole LiBi staff, especially Lois and my
staff who attended -- the party would nOT have
been such a GreAT success without you all!
Holiday Holidays and best wishes for a healthy,
wealthy and happy new Year!!!

As 2012 is coming to a close, and 2013 is just around the corner, we once again have the opportunity to reflect on what this organization gives its members and the public every day. Whether it’s business opportunities, the wonderful friendships that have developed, or helping a few American heroes secure their piece of the rock, LiBi is certainly more than just a lobbying organization. The sales & Marketing Council was re-ignited in 2011 by Grant Havasy and Lois Fricke. it’s task was to help rebrand the organization. since then, many people have come to the table to assist. From Bruce Orr of Timber ridge Homes to nick dalvano of All Ways elevator to an upcoming buck named rob Morandi of Continental Home Loans.
Over the last two years Grant Havasy and Co-Chair Paul Musso, with the help of their fellow sales & Marketing
Council members, helped to redesign the website, created a new logo for LiBi, LiHBC, and LiHBC Corp and much, much more. One of the last major achievements of the present council was the creation of the marketing plan in which LiBi will be able to utilize all of the modern media outlets which will generate a greater exposure to all of today’s modern media outlets (ie – Facebook, Google, YouTube, etc).
By the time this newsletter hits your desks the sales & Marketing Council will have a new face to lead the group. Bruce Orr will be the new chairman of the sales & Marketing Council. He has given LiBi a new presence that has been needed for many years. With his tenacity and out of the box thinking, we firmly believe he will assist the sales & Marketing Council to grow through leaps and bounds in 2013.
in closing, for Grant Havasy and the entire sales & Marketing team, denny Ballas, Chuck Barredo, nick dalvano, shelley Feigelson, Christine Johnston, Christine Knesplar, Bruce Orr, rita Passeggio, Jay ratto, doug segall, and Andrew sheahan, we want to thank Lois, Jen, Vickie & Mitch for their support and guidance. God Bless America and Happy Holidays.
Here’s to Healthy, Happy, and Prosperous new Year!
“Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work,a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” - Vince Lombardi
LI Green Homes Council
in past columns i
have spoken about
the increased public
awareness of sustainable
and energy efficient
building practices. The
nAHB and McGraw Hill survey points towards
a continued growth and popularity. On Long
island we may experience a greater increase due
to our communities’ past adaption of energy star
legislation, and currently the Hers legislation,
along with a growing post-sandy recognition
that we need to build differently; build with more
resilience. From within the industry we can see the
market potential and its benefits but the question
still is out there: How best to get the message to
the buyer?
At our last meeting the LiGHC decided to start
to answer that question. Over the next year we
will focus our attention on creating a marketing
message that our members and LiBi members
can use to help distinguish their product—a more
sustainable, efficient, and resilient product—from
their competitors. There are many shades to this
color “Green” and each of them will benefit the
builder/remodeler and their client. Finding the
correct message is the key. Please join us as we
build the message and the materials.
The LiGHC wishes everyone a healthy and
prosperous 2013.
