Volunteer Marketing and Events Assistant role Purpose of the volunteer roleThis administrative and public facing role plays an important part in caring for Hampshire’s heritage at Milestones Museum and Basing House. Volunteers support the museum by assisting with Marketing, event administration and public facing activities.

Background Information: Milestones is a purpose built living history museum, telling the story of Hampshire’s industrial,

retail and social history within a network of full size streets, buildings and vehicles from the Victorian and 1930s era.

Basing House is the ruins of the largest private house in Tudor England. The site is largely maintained as gardens with an indoor museum and visitor center. The Great Barn and other traditionally agricultural buildings are used for events such as Weddings and workshops.

Milestones and Basing House are managed by the Hampshire Cultural Trust. Operational management of the site is shared between Milestones Museum and Basing House in Basingstoke.

Typical tasks and duties involved in the volunteer role: To work with the Milestones/ Basing House Management team & Events Coordinator to support the

creating and delivery of the communications strategy for Milestones/ Basing House and generic marketing campaigns.

To support the Milestones/ Basing House Management team with an audience development plan for Milestones Museum and Basing House.

Conduct research via email, internet, phone and face to face. Draft press releases or write stories/ posts for social media to promote Milestones and Basing

House for a variety of audiences. To undertake a variety of administrative tasks such as data input, database management, sending

out mailshots etc. To keep aware of trends with social media, technology within the Museum/ Attraction sector. To collate information required for print and liaise with the designer and printer. To contribute to the collection of audience/event data and reporting systems as required To take part in administrative tasks involved in event planning, such as risk assessments, signage

and more. Represent both sites on promotional stands such as at agricultural shows, vehicle rallies, volunteer

recruitment etc. Take part in other tasks and training as and when you are required and available.

Desirable attributes:• Good communication and interpersonal skills• Customer service skills and confidence to interact with visitors with enthusiasm• An interest in history• An ability and willingness to help maintain a safe environment • Work within a small team• A basic knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel, Power-point and social media

applications.

This opportunity is for aged 16yrs+.

We will consider short term placements as well as longer term volunteering opportunities (e.g. 1 day a week on a regular basis)

A successful volunteer applicant would also be expected to attend some training and induction sessions before they begin and they would also be expected to attend annual refresher training
