6 THE VOORHEES SUN — FEB. 17–23, 2016
On Oct. 20, 2014, Voorhees Townshipproudly started a new tradition with theunveiling of the Voorhees Township Veter-
ans Wall of Honor. The Wall, which is lo-cated in the Voorhees Municipal Buildingat the Voorhees Town Center, honors resi-dents or members of immediate families of residents who have served in the UnitedStates military, whether during peacetimeor war.
Over the last two years, the response tothe Wall has been remarkable. More than300 veterans have submitted applicationsand are memorialized on the Wall.Voorhees Township is very proud to honorthese men and women for the sacrificesthey made in leaving home, family and
friends to give of themselves for our coun-try.
The Voorhees Veterans Wall is unique inthat it offers more than just a name. Eachveteran is honored with a plaque that in-cludes his/her name, branch of service,
date and place of service,awards/medals re-
ceived, a photo, andif desired, a brief personal note abouthis/her service.
Voorhees plansto continue this tra-dition and is nowaccepting applica-tions for 2016.
Eligibility isopen to the follow-ing people:
– Current resi-dents who have
completed servicein the U.S. mili-tary and have beenhonorably discharged. National Guardmembers who were deployed to a combatarea, have completed their service and
have been honorably discharged. – Residents’ immediate family members
who served in the U.S. military or the Na-
tional Guard as stated above, and havebeen honorably discharged. Immediatefamily member means parent, spouse, sib-ling or child.
– Former residents who lived inVoorhees at the time of entry into the mili-tary and have been honorably discharged.
Applications may be obtained at the Of-fice of the Township Clerk in the munici-pal building located at 2400 Voorhees TownCenter or may be downloaded from thehomepage of the township website atwww.voorheesnj.com. The township willalso be sending letters to veterans who

Champagne wishes and caviar
dreams are no longer in the
head of our Gov. Christie. Last
week, following a disappointing sixth-
place finish in the New Hampshire pri-
mary, Christie did what many thought
was inevitable for quite awhile now –
he suspended his bid for the presiden-cy.
Four years ago, when Christie made
it official that he would not seek the Re-
publican nomination in the 2012 elec-
tion opposite President Obama, it
seemed as though our governor would,
at the very least, be a leading candidate
in 2016. But following the Bridgegate
scandal and fights over the state’s pen-
sion, voters soured on him.
The surprising rise of Donald
Trump, and others, was the final blow
to Christie’s presidential aspirations.
He performed poorly in the Iowa
caucuses, which wasn’t unexpected,
but all along, he was banking his cam-
paign on success in New Hampshire.
When he finished with just 7 percent of
the vote last week, good for sixth best
among Republicans, the final nail was
hammered in his coffin.
Now, Christie returns to New Jersey
to assume his full-time duties of gover-
nor. That will be good for us – or will
it?
Christie will serve out the remain-
ing two years of his second term as a
lameduck governor. Between now and
2017, with no further political ascen-
sion in sight, he will be forced to deal
with a Legislature that has its sightsset on policies that will reach far be-
yond his term in office.
How much Christie will be able to
accomplish in the remainder of his
term, and just how much influence he
can exert, is questionable, at best.
Christie went for it all, and came up
short. Now, he’s coming back home to
pick up the pieces.
Here’s to hoping he’ll be more hum-
ble in the coming years and think of
New Jersey first.
in our opinion
Welcome home, Chris Christie! With bid for presidency done, our governor can now just be our governor

family.With Brooke undergoing
chemotherapy and set to beginthe second cycle of her treatmenton Feb. 11, the Osage communitydecided to let Brooke know shehad its support.
The Osage community starteda GoFundMe online fundraisingpage for Brooke and her mother, which at the time of the Feb. 10event had already raised nearly
$10,000 and exceeded its originalgoal.Money was also raised by stu-
dents at the school by paying $1per cup to make the sign, al-though the amount of moneyraised there also far exceeded ex-pectations.
Brooke has been knownthroughout the communitiesshe’s lived in for her charitableendeavors, such as her Brooke’sToy Closet projects in which she’sheld gift drives to bring in dona-
tions of toys for hospitalized chil-dren.
Osage Parent Faculty Associa-tion member Tricia Chadwicksaid with Brooke and her motherholding several fundraisers overthe years for cancer research andto support those other than them-selves, the Osage communitywanted to do something specifi-cally for Brooke and her mom.
“They always funneled every-
thing they got to everybody elseand to cancer research and neu-roblastoma and her toy closet, sowe wanted to do something just
for them,” Chadwick said.In addition to the money
raised, Brooke and her motherwere presented with a new bikefor Brooke, a new grill for thefamily and a gift basket full of several other donations such asstuffed animals, toys, treats, warm clothes and more.
“This event I think was justmore about us as a school andcommunity coming together and
just saying we loved her and just
saying we loved them and thatwas it,” said Osage PFA memberChrissy Beswick. “We wanted asmuch good to come from that aspossible, and it’s been amazing.”
On the day of the event, Mul-ford said she didn’t know what toexpect and was told only that theschool was planning somethingspecial for Brooke. Upon her andBrooke’s arrival, Mulford saidshe and Brooke were completelyblown away by the message anddonations.
She praised the Osage commu-nity for welcoming Brooke in theways it has since Brooke first en-rolled at the school. Mulford saidshe and Brooke didn’t know whatto expect when first starting atOsage, as Brooke’s previousschool was a small, private Chris-tian school in Maryland.
With Osage being significantlybigger, the two were afraidBrooke would become lost in the
shuffle and they would neverhave that closeness again withtheir school, but Mulford saidOsage ended up being nothing
but amazing.“Honestly, since day one, the
students, the teachers, the entireadministration, I’m really speech-less. Osage loves Brooke, they re-ally do,” Mulford said.
