Veterans-Only Career Information Day
Toolkit At-a-Glance Industry Solutions - Regional Implementation
Toolkit Purpose To help CEWD member companies prepare for, plan,
and conduct a Veterans‐Only Career Information Day. The purpose of the Career Day is to create awareness of various energy jobs/careers in the energy industry amongst veteran populations, resulting in an increase in the number of veterans applying for energy jobs.
Benefits to industry members of using this toolkit
Details a process to:
Help create a potential pipeline of qualified workers for energy jobs.
Increase alignment of the candidate skills with job requirements.
Provide clear signaling to veterans of the company’s or state energy workforce consortium’s education / job requirements.
Pre‐work Required To have an effective Career Information Day with veterans, employers should first get buy in and support from senior leaders and other key stakeholders in the company to focus on veteran hiring.
Employers must also engage operating companies to identify the key jobs to be highlighted during the career day, as well as potential tours for the veterans to take.
Additional pre‐work includes development of agenda, discussions with veteran organizations, local veteran employment reps and others who will source veterans for the event.
2
What is the lead time needed for planning the program before the start date?
2 – 6 months if a veteran hiring strategic plan is in place; if not, then it may require 6‐8 months to gain buy in and commitment at company level.
How much does an Industry and Education Partnership Summit cost?
The cost to host the Veterans‐Only Career Information Day will vary depending on the cost of meals and the number of veterans attending.
