Thorn’s Indoor Lighting Controls portfolio is grouped into three distinct usage types
1 SensaLite features Thorn luminaires with built-in sensors, and remote sensors, offering standard presence detection, daylight linking and infra-red control. SensaLite is the first step to comfort and energy saving, and is used for small office applications, simple classrooms, corridors etc.
2 ControLiteDIM is used for mid-sized projects (1 room): The portfolio consists of modules for creating scene setting, enabling daylight linking and integrating presence detection. It is easy to commission by the contractor: When wiring the system, the luminaires are allocated to the switches, scene plates and presence detectors.
3 SensaLink builds on the features of SensaLite by adding scene setting and the possibility to link sensors, enabling it to provide a linked lighting management system for larger-sized projects and those requiring greater levels of comfort.

How does ControLiteDIM support the Thorn PEC strategy?
Performance: ControLiteDIM has no influence on the visual performance - that is what the Thorn luminaires will offer you!
Efficiency: ControLiteDIM is a perfect tool to provide you with an efficient light – it enables you to dim the luminaires, link the luminaires to your presence and link them to the incoming daylight to achieve energy saving.
Comfort: Scene setting, manual dimming and presence detection are features of ControLiteDIM making your light solution very comfortable.
Where to use ControLiteDIM?
Typical applications are: • Single-rooms requiring simple
and intuitive scene setting, e.g. board rooms,
• Larger one-room applications requiring manual control and daylight-linking, e.g. call centers. Examples are:
• The ControLiteDIM-Scene module is an optional add-on to the -Basic module and enables you to create up to 4 scenes. Works in conjunction with simple standard momentary action switches, or the more intuitive and user-friendly ControLiteDIM scene plates.
• The ‘heart’ of the ControLiteDIM offer is the ControLiteDIM-Basic module. This enables you to brighten or dim up to three groups of luminaires each incorporating up to 100 DSI devices (most commonly ballasts) via presence detectors and momentary action switches (also called Retractive or Push-to-Make switches).
• The ControLiteDIM-Daylight module is a further optional add-on to the -Basic module and enables you to link the � groups of luminaires to the incoming daylight.

Like Option 1, but additionally:
• The daylight-dependent control of the � luminaire groups, reacting to incoming daylight and dimming each luminaire group individually to the specified light level:
• The system uses only one unobstrusive photocell, mounted to the ceiling and directed to the window instead of one cell per luminaire group.
• At any time you are able to shift the different daylight-linked light levels of the luminaire groups manually, the daylight-link will remain activated, considering your changes. After switching off/on the luminaire groups, the original settings will be recalled.

ControLiteDIM-Basic plus ControLiteDIM-Scene plus ControLiteDIM-Daylight
• This option offers you all the ControLiteDIM features together.
• With the switches or via the presence detection the system is switched on and the daylight-link is activated.
• As soon as you call up one of the 4 scenes the daylight-link is deactivated and the scene you asked for is activated.
• The daylight-link is reactivated after the whole system has been switched off and on again – either manually via a momentary action switch, or automatically via a presence detector, allocated to all � luminaire groups.

Benefit 2 - easy to Install
ControLiteDIM is really easy to install and configure:
• When wiring the system, the � groups of Thorn HFD luminaires (incorporating DSI ballasts) are allocated to the switches, scene plates and presence-detectors.
• To configure the scenes you just dim the � luminaire groups to the light levels you require for your different tasks and activities. As soon as you are happy with the created scene you store the setting to one of the scene buttons on the scene plate or the momentary action switch connected to the ControLiteDIM-Scene module, by holding it for 10 seconds until the lights confirm. (In principle you do the same with the program buttons of your car radio.)
• For the daylight-link you install the photocell LSD to the ceiling, in the direction of the window. This sensor is connected to the ControLiteDIM-Daylight module. To set the automation you simply follow these two steps:
1. During the day you set the � luminaire groups to the required individual light levels via the momentary action switches. Then you press the ‘Day System Point’ button on the module for 5 seconds until the lights confirm.
�. During twilight you set the � luminaire groups again to the required individual light levels via the momentary action switches. This time you press the ‘Twilight System Point’ button on the module for 5 seconds until the lights confirm.
You are also able to define which of the � luminaire groups should be daylight- linked, one, two or all three.

A typical application where you would use ControLiteDIM is a board room. In the following example the requirements are:
• Control of � luminaire groups (�x � suspended, 1x 4 downlights)
• Presence detection room-wide (passive infra-red)
• 4 scenes via scene plate

How ControLiteDIM works in this application example
You have a meeting with customers and enter the board room.
• The presence detector detects you, and (as this detector is connected to the presence detector inputs of the ControLiteDIM-Basic) all three luminaire groups are switched on (light level 100%).
• With everybody seated you wish to make a presentation using your laptop and a digital projector. Therefore you call up scene � via the scene plate. This scene was created by you in such a way that the � luminaire groups reduce their light levels: You have chosen that the suspended luminaires next to the screen are on a very low light level, and the others stay on a level that still allows you and your guests to write and to see each other.
• For the coffee break you change the scene to �, and the luminaires return to a higher level. During the set up of this scene you decided that the room is lit mainly by the downlights to create a comfortable atmosphere.
• You leave the room: Now you may either switch off the lighting by calling up scene 0 (off), or the presence detector will do that for you after its internal time out.
• If you return into the room after you switched the lighting off using the scene plate and before the presence detector’s time out, you just call up a different scene to get light back. Otherwise see above.
• At any time you are able to alter the light settings and scenes temporarily via the dimming buttons on the scene plate: You can either change the level of each group individually or of all groups together.

Another typical application example for ControLite DIM is a class room. The project shown here has the following requirements:
• Control of � luminaire groups (rows)
• Presence detection room-wide (microwave)
How ControLiteDIM works in this application example
• The presence detector detects you entering the room; all three luminaire groups would switch on. Each of the luminaire groups would respond individually to the light level that you have defined when commissioning the ControLiteDIM-Daylight. This module uses the ceiling mounted light sensor LSD to measure the incoming daylight.
• At any time it is possible to alter the light settings temporarily via the momentary action switch, which is installed next to the door and is used to switch off/on and dim all � luminaire groups together.
• If the room is vacated without anybody switching off the light manually, the presence detector would switch off the light after its internal time out.
• In the case of somebody returning before the detector’s time out, the light would remain on the level that was set before – either manually with the momentary action switch or automatically via the daylight-link.

The ControLiteDIM-Basic module is the basis of the ControLiteDIM product range. The three output channels can be controlled individually or togther, each operating up to 100 DSI devices. No programming is required during installation. Switches can be connected to the switch inputs of the ControLiteDIM-Basic (one input per group): these can be standard momentary action switches, e.g. continental style retractive (Push-to-Make) switches. UK style centre off retractive switches are available as accessories (see below). Any number of momentary action switches can be connected in parallel. Ceiling-mounted sensor for measuring the daylight entering the room through the window; incorporating a slide switch for switching to a higher sensitivity (from 0…5000lx to 0…1000lx).
