Notes from Colleen Well, this is the end of my first term as president of the guild … it started out like I expected, but it definitely didn’t end up like I ex-pected. What remained constant, however, was my admiration and respect for the members of this guild. Because of that, and since a majority of you voted yes on the slate of officers for next year, I am looking forward to continuing on for one more year, whatever it brings.
A couple years ago, when I was going through a pretty hard time, Janell gave me a plate with this quote. It isn’t a new quote, but it was new to me.
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Vivian Greene
The quote describes how I try to live, and what I hope for others as well. I shared it in my toast at my son’s wedding earlier this month. Truly my son and new daughter-in-law found a way to dance in the rain. Almost literally … a derecho (a giant 4-7 hundred mile long band of severe thunder and wind storms) hit the mountain top where the wedding was, 30 minutes before the ceremony. It was the first one in recorded histo-ry in Colorado. I’m proud of them. You all have continued to find joy
in creating, and joy in giving to the people and community around you. I’m proud of you too.
I don’t know what the future brings, or when life will be any-thing like the old normal, but I hope you dance!

There will be another virtual sew day again! I am excited for that and hoping I can attend; I miss see-ing you all.
All of the speakers unable to come this year are being rescheduled for next year to attend. Please feel free to contact us if you have ideas for programs or speakers or clas-ses, or if you have questions.

Helpful Hints from Alyce
For numbered rows of a quilt, purchase beads with numbers on them and pin to the rows in sequence.
By sewing a 1/8th inch seam around the outside edge of the quilt will help keep seam edges from separating and will keep
it straight.
Use contact paper with your design as a quilting stencil. Just press in place, then stitch over the marked areas. To keep thread from tangling when hand sewing, just run it over a piece of beeswax or paraffin.

VALLEY QUILT GUILD BOARD MEETING
Zoom Meeting
June 11, 2020
Attendees: Colleen Pelfrey, President, Michelle Jones, 1st Vice President, Terry Nugent, Secretary & Webmas-
ter, Linda Novak, Treasurer, Deanna Williams, 2021 Quilt Show Chairman, Nikki Snyder, 2019 Quilt Show Treasur-
er, Diane Leighton, Community Service, Carleen Hagen, Facilities, Cooky Amarel, Fair Liaison & Parliamentari-
an, Kim Buzolich, Sharon Easter, NCQC & QGNQ, Janet Carver, UFO, Gail Gilmore, UFO, Pat Smith, Quilt Show
Treasurer, Barbara Buehrle
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
A meeting of the Valley Quilt Guild Board was held on June 11, 2020. It was an online meeting
using the ZOOM application since the pandemic quarantine is still in effect. It was called to order
at 4:05 p.m.
Secretary: A motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting was made by Cooky Amarel and
seconded by Diane Leighton. A unanimous vote followed.
Treasurer: VQG Treasurer Linda Novak reported that we have a checking balance of $3,012.65
and a savings balance of $15,137.83.
Old Business: A category error was noted in the balance sheet provided by the treasurer, (an item
was listed under challenge quilts which should have been listed under community service.) Linda
will correct the error.
Yuba-Sutter Fair The fair has been cancelled. The 2021 fair is scheduled for June 24-27, 2021.
Nominating Committee: The voting by Google Forms for the Board had all nominated officers
voted in.
June Meeting/2019 Opportunity Quilt drawing: The Governor has not lifted meeting re-
strictions, but it was proposed that a group of us meet at Hillcrest Park to allow for social distanc-
ing and to draw the winner for the 2019 Opportunity Quilt. There will be another virtual meeting
and perhaps a July Zoom meeting. Michelle Jones and Colleen Pelfrey are trying to find a
speaker for July who is willing to present virtually.
New Business: The venue for Linda Ballard's workshop scheduled for August 20-21 is no longer
available. Cooky will be seeing Linda and will talk with her concerning possibilities of having the
workshop in some form."

Board Meeting Minutes Minutes continued . . . .
Membership Dues: Colleen will send out an email to guild members which will contain the mem-
bership form along with a reminder that dues are to be sent in June. Dues will need to be mailed
in this year.
New Committee Members: Leann Weldon will be taking over the Newsletter and Nicki Lura will
oversee Membership. Special thanks to Kim Buzolich for doing our Newsletter for the past 9 years
and to Ginger Benham for her work as the Membership Chair.
NCQC Zoom meeting: There will be a zoom discussion meeting for guilds on June 24 at 7:00 p.m.
Colleen Pelfrey, Michelle Jones, Sharon Easter, Eileen Milligan, Deanna Williams, and Diane
Leighton will attend if they can.

send the new Policy and By-laws to Board members for their Binders.
Officers and Chair Budget: Officers will turn in their proposed budgets for the coming year to
Colleen by the end of June. Colleen will meet with Linda Novak and Janet Craver to come up with
a proposed budget prior to the July board meeting.
Zoom subscription: Colleen has donated the $15 per month subscription for the Pro Zoom sub-
scription since she may be using the subscription for purposes other than the guild. She asked
that the guild cover the additional $50 fee if we have more than 100 members attending a meeting.
Cooky Amarel made the motion to approve this request and Deanna Williams seconded. A unani-
mous vote followed.
Fundraising: Terry raised a concern about the future of our fundraising, but it was felt that this
was premature.
Vice President Update: Michelle said Allison Jensen could do a virtual presentation in July or Au-
gust.
Community Service: Many quilts are ready, and it was suggested that we present them during our
August ice cream social if we are able to meet.
Opportunity Quilt: The quilt is finished and photographed. It is 90”” x 108”! And what a beauty!
Membership: There are 171 members in good standing and 9 affiliate members.
Quilt Show 2020: Colleen will set up a meeting in July with Pat Smith and Deanna Williams to pre-
pare a budget.

Fat Chance With another month of no physical
contact with each other, it is diffi-
cult to purchase and put aside fab-
ric for each them and month.
Do we need to take a break and
restart or do we continue buying
and stashing fabric for each
month?
We are willing to keep you updat-
ed on a monthly basis, so we
would like your opinion on this
subject. Please drop a note to ei-
ther Dorothy or Alyce as to your
preference.
In the meantime, we will continue
on. June is the month of Pastels,
with July for days of fun and camp-
ing. Oh, what an exciting time fish-
ing and camping could be!
Please, ladies, give us your opinion
and ideas, as we are versatile.
