FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP
Last Weekend’s Sunday Collection
$3224
From Father Mike
As we approach the time when we are being invited to participate in the Fruitful
Harvest campaign, which is the biennial bishop’s appeal that is the primary
source of funding for our diocese, it is a good time to revisit the concept of
stewardship. Last week I mentioned that stewardship reminds us that money is a
gift from God that he entrusts to us to use for providing for the basic needs of
ourselves and our families, and then to find ways to use it for the benefit of others
in need. Another aspect of stewardship is that it uses money as our expression of
gratitude for how God has blessed us. These blessings come to us spiritually as well
as materially, yet it is important that the first fruits of our earthly earnings be given
to the Church and in service of the poor to make consistent our intention of
making God the first priority in our lives. Today’s Responsorial Psalm refers to “the
fear of the Lord,” which does not mean being afraid of God but being in awe of
his incredible power and generosity in our lives. May our stewardship reflect our
gratitude and sense of being abundantly blessed as the Psalmist says, “Blessed
are you who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your
handiwork; blessed shall you be, and favored.”

FRUITFUL HARVEST SUCCESS
Reflecting the generosity of St. Joseph Parish, the final amount of giving to the
2016 Fruitful Harvest appeal that ended this past August was $50,403. Given that
our goal was $44,609, and recalling that parishes receive a rebate of 10% of their
goal and 50% of any donations over the goal, this campaign generated an extra
$7358 for our parish. Thank you for your participation!
