Example: at 12:30, what were you doing?
Subject + was/were + (verb) –ing

Past time clause:
• while goes with past progressive in a time clause.
– While I was eating lunch, my phone rang.– Jenny saw me when I was shopping at Hy-Vee.

• OR! – My phone rang while I was eating lunch.– While I was shopping at Hy-Vee, Jenny saw me.
