Unit 21-Creating Computer Graphics
Learning Outcomes
By completing this unit you will develop the knowledge of different types of
graphics that can be used in web pages.
Research, collect and describe a range of existing graphics used on
web pages.
Plan the production of a range of web graphics for a client.
Create a navigation bar
Create a set of navigation buttons
Create an advertising banner
Present work to a client for a specific purpose, using a suitable format.
Scenario
This assignment requires you to develop computer graphics for a new online
business called ‘Perfect Petals’. Perfect Petals design and create flowers for
special occasions such as weddings, funerals, birthday parties and baby
showers etc. The website owner is looking to add professional graphics to
the website to attract potential customers. Your assignment is to research,
plan and create a range of graphics to suit their needs.
The following requirements have been identified:
Research and evaluate a range of computer graphics (A01)
Create a series of hand drawn plans for the graphics you will create
(A02).
Create a navigation menu with at least 5 buttons (A03).
Create 3 separate navigation buttons for: search, add to trolley and
contact us (A04).
Create an advertising banner for the website showing the name of the
company (A05).
Export all of your graphics to the webs page to present to the client
(A06).

Task 1(A01-Research, collect and describe a range of existing graphics
used on web pages.
Your first task is to research and collect images from at least 2 websites to
evaluate. These graphics must include:
2 Navigation menusA range of separate navigation buttons (at least 2).
2 advertising banners.
What you must do now
Using the internet, explore and collect graphics that are listed above.
Remember , you must use at least 2 different websites to collect them.
Using the writing frame, supplied by your teacher, copy and paste the
images into the correct positions and write evaluations that include:
Pass
Describe the purpose.
Comment on the good and bad aspects of the graphics.
Merit
Describe the suitability of the graphics in relation to their purpose and
target audience.
Describe the physical dimensions of the graphics (shape etc)
Give valid reasons for the good and bad aspects.
Distinction
Fully describe the good and bad aspects of the graphics giving valid
reasons why you think this.
Give details of the file size of the graphics where possible.

Task 2(A02-Plan the production of a range of web graphics for a client.
Now that you have research different types of graphics and have a better
idea of what they look like, you must now start planning for your graphics for
Perfect Petals.
Using the writing frames supplied by your teacher, draw detailed diagrams for
the following images:
Navigation menu (with five buttons)
3 separate navigation buttons (Search, Contact us and Add to trolley)
Website advertising banner.
For each diagram you sketch, you must describe:
The house style (colour scheme etc)
The purpose of the graphic
The target audience
The size and dimensions of the graphic.

For this task, you must now create a navigation bar based on your hand
drawn designs.
Using Fireworks create a navigation bar that:
Pass
Combines text and images
Merit
Uses suitable colours (identified in your house style).
Saved as suitable file type.
Distinction
Contains, collapsing or drop down menus.
Optimised for the web (screenshots of doing this are required).
Be of near professional quality.

Task 4 (A04-Create a set of navigation buttons)
For this task, you must now create
a set of (3 separate )navigation
buttons based on your hand
drawn designs.
Using Fireworks create a set of navigation buttons that are:

Combine colours and features well
Saved as suitable file types.
Distinction
Have interactivity (e.g. roll over effects, change colour etc).

Task 5 (A05-Create an advertising banner)
For this task you are required to create an advertising banner for the Perfect
Petals website.
Using Fireworks create an advertising banner that is:

Static (single layer that does not move).
Combines text and images.
Be suitable for purpose.
Merit
Interactive (dynamic text box)
Adhere to the house style
Combines colours and features effectively.
Saved as a suitable file type.
Distinction
Banner will be animated (multiple screens)

Task 6 (A06-Present work to a client for a specific purpose, using a suitable
format for display)
For this final task, you are
required to display all of the
graphics you have created
in a suitable format. For this,
we are going to use a
webpage, which we will
create using Dreamweaver.
Your teacher will show you how to export all of your images and how to
create a single webpage in Dreamweaver.

Interactive features will be retained.

Interactive and animation will be retained.
