“A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…"
It’s been 39 years since audiences first read those words on movie screens. Thirty-nine years since we
first learned of the Force, of Jedi, lightsabers, X-wings and the Death Star. But even after all those years,
the Force is still strong with us all.
This August, the Alamo Drafthouse will
celebrate our love for the movie trilogy that
changed so many of our lives for the better,
with incredibly rare screenings of the original
1997 special edition versions of A NEW HOPE,
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and THE RETURN OF

USA. Porsche Corral tickets are available until 12 September 2016.
17-18 September 2016, Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival
Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival is Fleet Week San Diego’s marquee event. The event features fast-
paced, thrilling auto racing and exhibitions for car enthusiasts of all ages at one of the most distinctive
race track locations — Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of Naval Aviation. Nowhere else can
you see a variety of cars racing on a live runway used by the U.S. Navy.
This is the only Navy Open House on the West Coast. Naval Base Coronado is home to over 20,000 active
duty military and over 4,000 civilian employees. The general public usually only gets a glimpse of the
daily activities happening at the base.
Restrictions
Review the website before going; some things are prohibited on NAS North Island. In fact, virtually
everything is prohibited.
21-23 October 2016, Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, Austin, Texas
Taylor Swift has generously allowed a Formula 1 Grand Prix to share her concert venue. She’ll perform a
full concert after the end of track activity on Saturday, October 22. The concert will be entirely general
admission, much like a music festival and all holders of a Saturday ticket for USGP weekend (including
the 3-day GA wristband) will have access to the concert.

Eating Suggestions
If you make it to Canepa’s open house, consider Phil's Fish Market & Eatery in Moss Landing.
The Paris Bakery Café in Monterey is a tasty, although perhaps not exceptionally healthy, way to start
the day.

Porsche Left a Note for Acura in the 911 GT3 Used as Benchmark for the NSX
From Car and Driver: July 26, 2016 at 5:17 PM by Chris Perkins
A note to any automakers benchmarking cars built by Porsche: They’ll find you, and they’ll probably
leave you goofy messages hidden somewhere in the car. That’s what happened when the 911 GT3 Acura
was using to help develop the NSX’s steering went back to the dealer for a recall service.
Per common practice, when Acura bought a 911 GT3 for its test fleet, it did so anonymously, but
Porsche saw whom it belonged to when the service center accessed the car’s data, according to
Automotive News. It was at this point that Porsche decided to have a little bit of fun with its
counterparts at Acura.
“Good luck Honda from Porsche. See you on the other side,” read a note left under the 911 GT3’s engine
cover, according to the NSX’s dynamics project leader, Nick Robinson. The NSX team also benchmarked
a McLaren 12C, and although McLaren never figured out that Acura owned the particular car, the dealer
in charge of servicing raised an eyebrow. “[The McLaren dealer] wanted to know, ‘Where did you go 205
mph? What track?’,” said Robinson. In an automotive environment sorely lacking in friendly rivalries of
late, this is the sort of story we love.

California Inland Region “Fun Run”
Santa Paula Airport Sunday, August 7, 2016
The first Sunday in August is set aside for car clubs, and we are scheduled to display our Porsches on the airport grounds for visitors to view. The airport, established in 1930, is one of the last remaining airfields in California representing the golden age of aviation. The airport comes alive during Sunday’s open house for you to explore each privately owned hangar and speak with owners about their vintage aircraft and other memorabilia from antique radios to racecars. You will see all types of vintage aircraft in flight, so bring your cameras!! The tarmac will have booths offering items of interest for purchase. They also have an extensive museum of aircraft memorabilia which you can visit. The restaurant at the airport “Flight 126 Café” is now open for those who want to experience a great breakfast or lunch.
Time and Place: 6:30 am at Albertson’s parking lot at corner of 10th Street W and W Palmdale Blvd. We will then caravan to the Walmart Super Center parking lot from the West Rye Canyon Road entrance at approximately 7:30-7:45 am to meet members from the southern part of the region. Try and be at our first meeting place because the run via San Francisquito Rd is very exciting!!
