2019-2020 Season
The man that hath no music in himself nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The Merchant of Venice
“We know what we are,but know not what we may be.” Hamlet
Since 1975, the Concord Chamber Orchestra has been performing classical music for the enjoyment of Milwaukee-area audiences and offering performance opportunities for talented volunteer and student musicians. For 44 years, we have existed as the result of collaboration and contributions of hundreds of musicians, directors, volunteers, and donors. That is who we are – and we are proud and honored to continue making classical music accessible.
However, as we plan each season we “know not what we may be.” We put together a repertoire that we hope will speak to our audiences and help us – and you – transform your understanding of music in new ways. This season, we take our inspiration from the words, poetry, and themes of William Shakespeare. Much like classical music, Shakespeare’s plays continue to have impact centuries after they were written. We are excited to discover and present pieces you may not have heard before but that resonate with timeless concepts.
Join us as we explore music inspired by the plays of The Bard – tragedies, comedies, and histories. And don’t miss the other ways that you can transform yourself from simply an audience member to a participant in making music. • Purchase your season subscription and get an additional two free tickets to
share with friends. • Connect with orchestra members and soloists during free receptions after
our October, March, and May concerts. • Take that connection a step further and sponsor a musician. • Support young artists with a donation to our Walter A. and Dorothy J.
Oestreich Concerto Competition. • Volunteer your time and talents. • Give a planned gift and become a member of Concord’s Encore Society.
Whatever your interaction with the CCO, you are essential to helping us continue to discover who we may be. And those interactions may even help you continue to discover who you may be.
THE COMEDIES
“With mirth and laughterlet old wrinkles come.”
SAT. OCTOBER 12, 20197 pm • St. Sebastian Parish
From All’s Well that Ends Well to The Winter’s Tale, Shakespeare’s fourteen comedies provided laughs for the audiences and inspiration to several composers who sought to write music as lilting and witty as The Bard’s words. Guest narration by actors from Feast of Crispian.

Overture to As You Like It by John Knowles Paine“Love Scene” from The Merchant of Venice by Engelbert HumperdinckSuite from The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell

THE VERSES
“I would not wish any companion in the world but you.”
SUN. JANUARY 26, 20202 pm • North Shore Congregational Church
Just as Shakespeare’s iconic plays are made up of beautiful individual verses, the Concord Chamber Orchestra is made up of talented individual musicians. Our annual “sampler” concert is a unique opportunity to hear a number of chamber music ensembles, each featuring musicians who provide the poetry that is the CCO.
THE HISTORIES
“Your name from hence immortal life shall have.”
SAT. MARCH 21, 20207 pm • St. Sebastian Parish
William Shakespeare was a keen reader of history, always looking for the dramatic impact of historical characters and events. His interpretation of those events and figures has shaped the way we think of them today. In this concert, we also welcome the winner of our annual Walter A. and Dorothy J. Oestreich Concerto Competition, who we hope will also go on to make musical history.

“When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.”
SAT. MAY 9, 20207 pm • St. Sebastian Parish

SPONSOR A MUSICIAN“Strong reasons make strong actions.”
Sponsoring a musician is a great way to support someone you know or an instrument you love! Sponsors will be recognized in each concert program, listed under the names of the musicians they have sponsored. In addition, sponsors will be recognized on our website.
The CCO is currently home to more than 60 volunteer musicians who fill the positions of concertmaster, associate concertmaster, principals, and section players. Plus, of course, our Music Director Jamin Hoffman. Each is a passionate artist dedicated to making the most inspiring and moving music for you.
We invite the public to sponsor individual musicians this season with a tax-deductible donation. Sponsorship opportunities are available for $50 per musician and $200 for Music Director Hoffman. There is no restriction on the number of people who can sponsor a single musician and no limit to the number of musicians you can sponsor!
Becoming a sponsor is easy. Just complete the section on the ticket order form and send it in with your payment. Or sponsor and pay online at www.concordorchestra.org/sponsor-a-musician. Of course, we’ll let the musician know that you have chosen to honor them with your support.
Making the Numbers CountThe Concord Chamber Orchestra draws a loyal and diverse audience from metropolitan Milwaukee and throughout the state of Wisconsin. We anticipate our total audience to exceed 2,500 patrons this season — music lovers of all ages including families, students, and seniors.
Exposure During & After the ConcertAs a full-season advertiser, your ad will appear in each of the concert programs for our four regular performances, including the heavily attended concert at the Basilica of St. Josaphat in December, plus our chamber ensemble concert. Concord’s patrons often take programs home and re-read them after the performances.
Other Marketing OpportunitiesSponsorships are available for all of our concerts. As a title sponsor, your business receives ongoing promotion and exposure before, during, and after the concert. Partial sponsorships start at $500 and include a half-page ad in the concert program, as well as promotion on our website and your logo on printed marketing materials. We will work with you personally to develop a sponsorship agreement that best serves your marketing needs.
You’re In Good CompanyConcord’s season is supported in part by grants from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Milwaukee County Cultural Artistic & Musical Programming Advisory Council (CAMPAC), The MARVAN Charitable Fund, and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. We gratefully acknowledge these grantors and the many sponsors, advertisers, and donors who make our concerts possible.
