First country to sign the Convention on Biological
Diversity and largest country in South America, Brazil
is the most biologically diverse nation in the world
with six terrestrial biomes: Amazon, Atlantic Forest,
Caatinga, Cerrado, Pampas, and Pantanal.

At the tabling of TEEB’s final Report suite at CBD’s
COP-10 in Nagoya, Japan, several governments,
including Brazil, expressed their interest to launch
“country” level TEEB projects

The purpose of TEEB Brazil is to identify and highlight
the economic benefits derived from the
conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity
and ecosystem services in the country, as to evaluate
the costs of their losses

these benefits and costs to the processes of decision
