Jacques Cartier was
born in 1491 between
June 7th and
December 23rd at
Saint-Malo in France.
He died on
September 1st, 1557
at the age of 65
years in Saint-Malo.
Jacques Cartier was a
navigator who made 3
trips from France to the
North America between
1534 and 1542. In 1534 he
first attempted to find a
way to the Pacific Ocean.
He made a 2nd trip in 1535
and explored the St.
Lawrence up to Montreal.
On his 3rd trip in 1541
Cartier was unsuccessful
to attempt to colonize the
area. After his return to
France in 1542, he settled
in his hometown of St.
Malo.
