Page 1: The 'Discovery Bible Study' method

‘Discovery Bible Study’ Outline

The Bible was written in the language of common people, and God still speaks to us today –

through the Bible. This inductive ‘Discovery’ method is tested and proven successful. More than 50,000 churches have been planted across Asia and Europe using this exact method.

Connect

1. What is one thing that you are thankful for this week? 2. What is one thing that has been difficult or stressful this week?

Discover: Read the Story

1. Ask one person to read the passage aloud. 2. Ask another person to read the passage aloud while the other students

listen. [**Whenever possible, have someone read the passage in another version.]

3. Close Bibles. Have someone else re-tell the story in their own words. 4. Ask the group if anyone has anything to add to the story, or if anyone

saw something different in the passage.

Discuss

1. What does this passage tell us about God? 2. What does this passage tell us about people?

Apply

1. How can I apply this passage in my life this week? 2. Whom can I share this passage with this week? (Who else in my life

needs to hear this?)

Return to the needs shared at the beginning of the study and discuss as a group how you can help one another this week.

Pray

Close the study with prayer. This should not always be done by the facilitator. Encourage others to take part by facilitating the discussion and closing in prayer. People become invested where they are involved. www.discipleshiptoolkit.org
