October 20, 2016 Dear Music and Education Partners, The City of Fairfax Band is now accepting applications for the 2017 City of Fairfax Band Young Artist Competition. The Competition awards one Northern Virginia high school junior or senior, who plays a band instrument in a school or community ensemble, a $2000 cash award and a featured guest appearance with the City of Fairfax Band at its May 13, 2017 concert “Legends of the Air” at 7:30 p.m. at Woodson High School. Deadline for entry is Friday, February 10, 2017. The Finals Recital will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017, 7–9:00pm at the City of Fairfax Old Town Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. Please find enclosed an application, rules, and flyer for the Competition. Please take a moment to verbally announce this opportunity to your students, to post the flyer in your room or studio, and to distribute the materials to eligible student musicians. You are welcome to make as many copies of the application and materials as needed. Additional information and materials, including a list of eligible repertoire, are available on our web site at www.fairfaxband.org. As in the past, the City of Fairfax Band continues to offer free admission to all concerts for students 18 and younger as part of the “All Students Free” concert admission program. Our concerts provide an affordable educational and entertainment alternative for students and families, ideal for those who need to fulfill concert attendance or listening requirements. Through your strong music education efforts, Northern Virginia is home to many talented young musicians. We hope all of your students will take advantage of this competition and performance experience and look forward to presenting their talents to our community in the coming months. Sincerely,
Robert Pouliot Music Director
